Thats it! I give up!:pinched: This game is so hard! At first i was playing at nightmare mode, cause a lot of people here say that it's just a breeze, but for me it's a literal nightmare, so i tried the hard mode, well i did manage to get far until i met these bounty hunter with a blood mage that throws a fireball that knockdowns my whole party leaving us with half of our hp while being slah and hack to death by qunari warriors... So i took a different route and then again i met these blood mage again with a band of qunari warriors and the same thing happen again. I'm not a noob at RPG, i've played alot of RPG, but this one its so hard... Maybe i'm playing on a console that's why im having a hard time managing my party... Oh well, i'll play now on Normal from now on.

What makes the game so easy is repetition. I died so many times on the Ogre in Tower of Ishal I damn near cried and that was just on hard. Now I'm about to finish Solo nightmare with Warrior, damn you Timortis for beating me! All I can say is that if you are having problems stack your group. Wynne/Morrigan (depending on your class.) Have one of them get mana clash, one of them get CC like Paralysis/Blood wound etc and honestly it gets much less daunting. It'll get quite a bit easier each time you play it, but if you have to do it the first time on normal, then do it on normal.

Nightmare is pretty easy if you played the game on Hard before. You know what works and don't need to figure out the mechanics anymore.

If all fails, turn the game down to Easy/Casual in a tough fight and turn it back up afterwards. The difficulty spikes wildly sometimes and a few encounters are a lot harder than the average battles.

If you haven't adjusted your Tactics settings for each and every companion, it's pretty much a given that you will have difficulties even if you're trying to use proper battlefield positioning.

Severe_0009, Nightmare WILL be a breeze AFTER you finish a run in Normal or Hard... Experience with tactics and gameplay is the most valuable weapon in this game, IMHO!

There's almost no difference in game mechanics between Normal, Hard and Nightmare.

The problem you're having is the LEARNING CURVE. Once you figure out where all the good gear is, how to properly gear and spec your characters, the major threats in each battle (always Mages...), the landscape you're fighting on, how to keep your approval up with all your characters, the best path through the game (start with the low level areas, finish with the higher level ones) etc etc. the game gets a lot easier.

Its just figuring out the tactics that work for you. Give it time. Once you do, the harder difficulties will become easier.

Using tactics and actually controlling your party yourself instead of letting the AI do it makes a huge difference. My first play through on normal was very hard, but so far subsequent play throughs have seen the same battles that took me several attempts be done in just one attempt.

The difference was that, sadly, I forgot how to play a whole group and was just concentrating on my main toon and letting the AI deal with the rest, not to mention other things I didn't know.

Also, I don't know what other RPG's you've played, but Biowares are a bit different, at least the party based ones are. Lots of people who complain about the difficulty of this game always say they've played other RPGs, but I wonder if any of them were Baldur's Gate 1 or 2, Icewind and so on. If you don't use tactics in those games, you would have the same problems you are having now. Yes, enemy aoe is very deadly, which is why taking out mages is often a priority and why the game lets you pause in combat and why you have a healer with group heal around.

It could also be your group. I was having the hardest time on hard difficulty with a group of two DW Rogues, Alistair, and Wynne as a support, it was terrible. I didn't have enough CC and the Rogues would always become too threatening and have enemies attacking them, preventing them from being able to use backstab, I was also having a hard time with keeping people alive. I decided to start over, instead of using my Mage for support I went more towards damage, even just having Cone of Cold made it sooo much easier. I rarely need to my healing spell and I don't use pots. My advice is grab AoE CC abilities like Cone of Cold and Sleep. You can use them on the melee enemies to take them out quicker, or just to hold them off while you take out the Mages/Archers.

I play on the secret Nightmare One Million Mode.  None of my characters have ever lost a single HP and have one shotted all the mobs we've gone against.  It's a really easy game, so I have all my characters wear footy-pajamas with the little bum flaps.

It's really easy to lie.  Most people who say they breeze through nightmare are lying to try and emphasize a point they're trying to make or play up to the crowd.  Because, yes, some people's lives are so sad they want cred from random internet strangers.

Explain to me how Nightmare is difficult? Are you just assuming by the name and description, or have you actually read up on what changes between Normal and Nightmare?

Oh mah gahd, my characters take 5% more damage, deal 5% less and my healing spells are 15% less effective. WUT AM AH GUHNA DU!?

So...what you're saying is the game is a nightmare on Nightmare and hard on Hard?

How is this bad? I'm failing to understand.

I don't believe he's saying that it isn't difficult. Just that people overexaggerate. In this regard, I agree. A lot of people carelessly say "Nightmare difficulty is a breeze" when they really mean to say "Nightmare difficult is a breeze if [Insert a detailed, specific list of things you have to do to make Nightmare difficulty a breeze here]"

I do not just say it. I show it.

But please do not click on my  "thread ruiner shameless plug for non-funny" video as someone called it since that, besides the really funny videos there (majority of opinion ruling), there are also a big deal on my zero Injury -  no mages -  NM run combats (well, some with mages too, up to some point)!

You want hard? Try soloing the Demogorgan in Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal with Ascension installed, on the highest difficulty setting.

Jesus freaking Christ,  the memories. This is probably the only fight in ANY RPG over the years that has frustrated me so much.

Tactics and armor have made the most difference for me. The normal setting gets me more than my share of adrenaline so I think I'll stick to that setting :)

Using the controls on the PS3 also took some getting used to as I used to play on a PC where it's much easier to view your inventory, target enemies, etc...

Thats your first problem right there.....dont listen to people on here, half the people will scream to hard, others will whinge its too easy.

Second....who tries a brand new game on the hardest difficulty on there first playthrough?

And dont sweat it, in some battles while on Hard lve knocked it down to Easy.
Theres no reward for "beating the game" on Nightmare with no deaths....other then some minor ego boost.

Play for fun.
