True, I believe Bioware has learned lessons in reagards to games (DA 2) and endings (ME3)

The lesson being, just make your games more like they used to be, instead of rushing "products" and adding useless crap like multiplayer. But it is not a lesson they want to learn, so they won't.

The reason for that is that if they didn't expand and make changes, people would then complain that every game was exactly the same etc. People don't like things to remain stagnant either...

There's a ton of DA lore, Bioware can't just leave all of it untapped and go to another universe.

Jade Empire had a lot of lore, too, and a bunch of places still to see. There was a lot of stuff there just waiting to be explored.

It wasn't and, sadly, probably won't.

Bioware totally can leave it all behind and go do something new.

I hope they don't.

But they can.

I don't really see why they can't do both. But, if it's a choice between one or the other I'd say stick with Dragon Age. The lore is very well done. It'd be a shame to throw it all away.

I would like to see them continue DA because it has so much potential, even after DA2.

Dragon Age is an excellent universe. It has huge potential. They should slowly develop it over the years into something as huge as Forgotten Realms.

Assuming they can once again make something that comes close to the level of quality of DAO, I'd say they might as well start over on a new universe (unless they decided to effectively retcon DAII). That's how I'd prefer most BW games to be anyway; standalone, without any false promises of choices carrying over and somehow mattering, since it's apparently too difficult for them to pull off properly, and it does seem rather confining from a creative point of view. I'd rather have meaningful choice & consequence within the game I make said choices in.

DA3 will be their last opportunity to release a 9/10 game ... a game with good story, plot and ending and without any crap Origin program, first day DLC and auto dialogues.

Dragon Age should continue, should continue trying to find the balance between those who liked DA:O, DA2 and those who liked both... well I can't see how those who liked both will hate combination of either types. The universe set within, the lore and all the backstory that went into setting up this franchise in DA:O initially has the potential to carry on for many years provided the gameplay and plot of each individual title matches the quality of the the universe it takes place in.

It would be quite a waste to abandon the Dragon Age Universe. I really love the lore of this world, the history, and I want to visit as many places in this franchise as possible, like Antiva or Tevinter. And in contrast to Mass Effect, which always felt more like Shepard Effect, they don't have to conclud some story-arc (like the Reaper-invasion) and especially there is no need to screw this Universe with silliness...

I am pretty sure we won't see in DA3 that the main character becomes an Archdemon and "control" the world, destroy all Darkspawn but also every mage, or turn everyone into beings half-human/half-nugs...ahem...hope nobody at Bioware reads this, they could get teh wrong ideas...

Anyway, they can very well start a new franchise beside Dragon Age, as long as they carry on making Dragon Age games and don't turn it into some MMO-madness. But I guess that dreadful fate is reserved to Mass Effect...

Actually, I'd love to see the divided fan base problem solved by moving the DA2 style gameplay approach over to Jade Empire, which was a much closer fit, and having Mike Laidlaw (who clearly 'gets' how to get those types of games to work) lead it.

DA would then be able to move back towards the 'spiritual successor of Baldur's Gate' angle with a new Lead Developer.

Having re-read that, I just want to be clear this isn't a dig at Laidlaw. I think he's genuinely got talent at overseeing more action-oriented RPGs. Its just not a direction (based on both JE and DA2) that I like as much as Bioware's other work, and I'm not convinced that he's the right person to pick up where Brent Knowles left off - not necessarily because he couldn't, but because I don't believe he will...

Of course, I'm biased to splitting the franchises that way round because I'm an Origins fan and DA2 detractor - I don't doubt other people would prefer a new DA:O-like game was created with a new world, leaving DA3 to follow from DA2.

Hard though it would be to wave goodbye to the DA world, I could probably live quite happily with that solution if that's what it came down to.

Dragon Age has tons of lore, but I think Bioware's genuine talent is building worlds and characters, rather than the stories themselves (which are usually lackluster). So why not make a new world? There's so many setting possibilities!

I love Dragon Age, it's such a rich fantasy world. I don't ever want to see it go, despite how much Dragon Age II apparently sucked (it doesn't bother me in the least). No game is perfect, not Origins, not Mass Effect, but the franchises are absolutely beautiful and I never want to see BioWare toss it aside or sell it to somebody else. I would always look into a BioWare game, but I could never not buy a Dragon Age game.

While I'd love to see a new franchise from Bioware, I don't want them to give up on Dragon Age yet. There's still a good sixty years left to cover in the franchise's timeline before they'd really need to shake things up.

I think they could do what they've been doing for a while and have two teams working on separate games.

Please keep dragonage. It is one of THE great
landscapes/lore creations of the genre. The characters of Origins are amazing,
their personalities and dialog trees are rich, varied and deep. DA 2 was
unfortunate to put it mildly. Players look to Bioware for something very
special that is unique to their brand. Story, characters – HEAVY companion interaction,
complex dialog trees with variable story endings . The best way to stop game
sellback is to make audience emotionally invest and give lots of choice and
variable plots and  stories. I never get
tired of Origins/Awakening – I always seem to find new things on repeated play throughs.
DA 2 – aside from same dungeon over and
over / everything seemed rushed and bare bones. You get a romance – one scene
and that’s it. No “hey great fight, how bout a kiss or maybe a roll in the
tent. No sweet nothings. Nothing period. The camera stays way up in a
completely disconnecting – antisocial frame and never moves back in. You can’t
talk to any of your guys let alone anyone else, if you do they mumble something
and the camera stays up where it is. Please just go back to doing what you did
in the first games.  You guys HAD the
answer to sellback. The one everyone else was looking for. You invented the
future then for some reason turned your backs on it.  It almost seemed like some Hollywood hack
exec had come in dragging all of that old studio fail with them.  Save Dragonage (the ORIGINal one) oh and one
more thing VARRICK is the grossest toon I have ever encountered. Slick hair,
bare blinged chest, he looks like a pedophile and is so sticky and clingy one
of those automatically your best friend UGH! I made myself play da2 a second
time just to get rivalry on him and kill him that’s how much I disliked him
Varrick is the Jar Jar Binks of that world. PLZ no more of him.  Can’t believe he came from same place as
Morrigan and Leliana, Alaister and even Shale etc. All soo great. You guys had
the magic touch, I’m sure you still do. Give me more DA like the first ones and
all the dlc you care to throw my way – theres a whole lot of us loyal fans
waiting to buy.;)

I don't agree with the way many people are completely writing off Dragon Age 2 and stating that Bioware can only succeed if they basically make Dragon Age Origins the second, because Origins is supposedly the shining epitomy of a perfect Dragon Age game.

Origins may have been a great game (and better than DA2 overall in my opinion) but it was still flawed, and believe it or not Dragon Age 2 actually did some things better than Origins :gasp:.

Say what you want about Dragon Age 2's combat being too fast paced and unrealistic I think people are too easily forgetting just how slow and long winded Origins combat could be. I remember playing my sword and shield warrior and it taking about three seconds just for the shield slamming animation to take place. In fact the incredibly slow combat almost stopped me buying the game entirely when I saw the original trailer footage.

The new ability trees were much more interesting, were not simple straight lines and party members even got their own unique talent trees (which was a nice touch).

While still flawed the friendship/rivalry system was an improvement over Dragon Age Origins system, and gave you a wider variety of options when dealing with your party members, and could often lead to dramatic changes in dialogue and certain scenes. Had the game not been so repetetive and dull in other areas it would have added a lot of replayability.

While I hope that Dragon Age 3 is more like Origins in several ways They did make some important steps forward with DA2, and they are overlooked far to readily by people. Origins had it's flaws as well.

To answer the original question posed by this thread, I'd rather they stick with Dragon Age. Creating a new setting and lore would only waste time that could be spent making future Dragon Age games better, and there are still so many things hinted at and places mentioned that there are a lot of options open in where to take the series. Mass Effect may get new games as well but I care much less about them, as Mass Effect 3 basically killed the franchise for me.

Creating a new universe because of one failed game isn't the answer. DA universe has potential. It has to be fleshed out slowly and meticulously, however, if they want to approach the level of gaming universes such as Warcraft and Forgotten Realms. I only hope EA corporate greed doesn't ruin a great setting.
