six hours in, a reminder of just how bad/dumbed down modern gaming has become.  really miss games that had this level of depth and complexity.  hoping kickstarter gets these titles going again.

I can't confirm what you say, as it's years since I've played a modern title (my hardware doesn't allow it). But it just seems the further the gaming industry advances, the shallower their titles become. I guess they're always aiming at a bigger audience, also with the huge market share of consoles. I don't know much about this "kickstarter".

if i use the console command to increase party size to five (four feels one too small), are there any areas in oc/motb that will "break"?

also, i know this will make the OC easier than it already is.  i think most of it is due to encounter creation rather than the actual curve (very difficult should feel hard but it doesn't feel much above easy), but is there a mod that can increase the difficulty?

that looks pretty intense, i'll have to fiddle with it to find settings that provide a solid challenge w/ 6 party members. it seems like going beyond that would create a lot of traffic jams.

thanks!

Anything higher than 6 gets really wierd in the campaigns and in most mods. I usually balance for 4. If you can't make it work with 4 then you don't have enough 10' poles.

i have a question about the spell fixes mod... does it update the in-game text or do i need to refer to the version i downloaded to see what the spells do now?

Which mod specifically?  There are a bunch.  If you are using Kaedrins, then he has a web page detailing all the changes...which there are considerable amounts.

Authors traditionally have been hit & miss with documentation.

just "spells fixed", nothing too fancy.

is there a rod of preparation mod that works 100%? i've tried both it and rod of full party buffing and they both have issues. i save one set of buffs and it works, then all of a sudden it breaks. no changes to party members or anything, just skips buffs, buffs the wrong people, things like that...

finally, when does crafting open up? i didn't really utilize it on my first playthrough (many years ago). i'm near the end of act 1 and haven't been able to use it much. sand looks like the best bet but he doesn't have any of the crafting feats and the only crafting skill he has above 3 is alchemy (at 18).

None of them come with any crafting feats pre-set;  you'll have to choose them when levelling up.  As for who - any of the casters can do a good job for you, not just Sand.  Qara, Elanee(!), Zhjaeve later, even Grobnar can turn out really useful stuff.  But THE BEST CRAFTER BAR NONE comes in pretty late.  Back in Act 1 - again I say Qara, Elanee(!), even Grobnar.

working .......

fixing the Flame Weapon spell right now ..... i want a solid Rod, too .... works with metamagics so far ... remember if you don't have the spell memorized it will just skip over it ..

no ETA, maybe a week or two

wow this board is pretty quick considering the age of the game :)

thanks to both of you. it's been a while so obviously my memory of the story/characters isn't the best (though things happen and i go "oh yeah!"), so thanks for withholding the spoilers :D

guess it'll be a while until i can get the good stuff out of crafting. might've been able to do it sooner but it looks like companions have pre-set packages when they join you.

Crafting opens up at Level 10, basically (normally when you're in Orcville), though Elanee(!) can get the ball rolling at Level 9.

In case you haven't noticed, I emphasize Elanee as your go-to crafter. Overall, if you're only going to detail one character to do it, you want to be sure to have access to the Divine abilities.

looking for a mod that makes magic bags better, maybe have a UI and sorting function like the regular backpacks.  the best one i've found so far is http://nwvault.ign.c...UI.Detail&id=39 but obviously it isn't *exactly* what i want.

one last question (hopefully!): if i put on a higher level enhancement modifier (ie. +4 instead of +3) will it override the lesser or addon, and then only take the greater into account (thus wasting an enchantment slot)?

If you put a +4 enchantment on a +3 sword, for example, it will overwrite the earlier enchantment, not taking up a new slot. Likewise, a 1d6 Fire will replace a 1d4 Fire and so on. This only works up until you've filled the three slots; after that, you cannot upgrade.

Kaldor Silverwand or Kaedrin wrote some code for someone that changes that, so that you can continue to upgrade enchantments even after filling up the three slots. I don't know if it was ever individually released, but it's in one or another mod (maybe Kaedrin's).

it's also in the TCC® mods (The Complete Craftsman-rebalanced) though they're a bit buggy and I don't recommend them off the bat. they're there /shrug.

Containers, we're a bit stuck with it seems; I wish items could be re-ordered without emptying half the bag,

uh, so to speak ..

meh. tcc sounds like it'd be nice to have distilling break greaters into two lessers (instead of one), but the rest seems like it could break the game. i like being able to craft stuff but if i can do it all then there's not much point in finding gear.

tried using skywing's because i heard it fixed some bugs with the game but it dropped my fps by 20. no idea why it would do that.

thinking about multiclassing into the 5 levels of neverwinter nine. do i lose access to paladin epic feats? not 100% clear on how multiclassing works.

ugh i should've made a cleric.

really debating starting over, paladin is pretty boring. basically a fighter w/ a few spellcasting abilities. plus it kinda sucks being stuck as a stuck-up lawful good for 150+ hours of playtime (nwn2 and motb). need more freedom. guess i should've expected this going in but it's been so long since i played an ACTUAL rpg, i forgot how important character class/alignment was :@

I played a rogue/sorcerer and had a bunch of fun.  SoZ is the best for class choices since you have the awesome party feature.

yeah the character's in the OC get on my nerves, makes me want to go chaotic evil for the entire game just for the ending (because i remember what happens there).

maybe memory is tinting motb rose colored but i remember it being a massive improvement. about halfway there.

Agreed Mokah - Rogue/Mages are my favourite characters, although I had a lot of fun once in NWN1 with a Paladin/Sorceror & his hellhound familliar - ah, what larks :-)
