I actually find it annoying that it makes a separate folder in my documents for it. There's a folder called my documents/my games, learn to use it.

I agree with the OP, storing savefiles in "My Documents" is pretty braindead.

They should be saved in the game directory.

That said, I always keep backups of my game saves on my data partition, so I wont have his problem.

been screaming at install screens for a decade, "NO!  I do NOT want to
update DirectX!  Mine is up-to-date!  If it is not, put it in the
system reqs and I will do it myself!"

I'm 100% with you on things like running DirectX and other system updates without asking me.  I'd prefer to be asked.  Then again, many users would prefer not to be because they don't understand what they're being asked about and would prefer it just be "taken care of" for them.  Many users would continue to use outdated versions of libraries and then come to the forums to complain when they had problems.

Here's the problem.. they're not installing DirectX updates because they want to make sure that you take care of your computer system.  They're installing DirectX updates because older versions are probably not compatible, leading to wierd behavior, crashes, etc.   And who is the user going to blame when the game crashes?   Themselves for not keeping themselves up-to-date?  No.  They're going to blame the software vendor.

As far as the save locations are concerned, I still have to disagree.  An advanced user such as yourself can change global defaults for the location of the profile folders, but the profile folders are necessary (see my comments above).  I think that some of the nice folks in this thread are just ignoring some of the "big picture" concerns when it comes to system setup and administration.  The lack of consistency and management when it comes to how software uses the file system is a big part of why a lot of people have problems with their Windows installations.

Windows really needs a context menu (like Create Shortcuts) that can easily create hard or soft links so that any file can be remapped anywhere.  A power-user can do it from commandline if they know what they're doing, but that makes it very inaccessible.

That would allow people to remap MyDocuments/Bioware/DAO back to d:\\games\\DAO\\mydocs if they really care.

Greetings.

I realize this isn't the technical discussion area, however I wished to ask nonetheless.

Does anyone have a fix for this, if one so chooses to not restore the path for Documents to default to make the DLC function?
I'm attempting to dabble in things I've never messed with, so I'm way over my head. I was reading something about manipulating the XML files, or perhaps using a symbolic link?

The drive with "Documents" is with the server, mapped to my machine as E:, or "E:\\Documents\\BioWare", the same as, \\\\PARROTT-DESKTOP\\Desktop MediaDrive\\Documents\\BioWare.
When I try to install the damned DLC, it complains about it not being on the root directory, which is true since it's over the network.

I'm about to march on Redmond and shoot everyone, WHY CAN'T IT INSTALL JUST TO WHERE IT CLAIMS TO BE?!!?!?

Could someone help? Please? I don't have much hair left to spare....Image IPB
