This month's challenge is "Player Customization"

Models (Body parts, new wings and tails), visual effects (beards & mustaches, jewelry, scars/tattoos) that modify how the PC looks and phenos that change the way they move. Scripts and widgets that allow in-game modifications. New races, classes, feats. Items with applied visuals like a smoking pipe or a golden nose-ring.

This theme was suggested by some yahoo with a pretty black bird on his shoulder.

Guidelines:
  • It must be fully working in game.
  • Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine, though state-of-the-art amateur's work would require 100% original work, but that's up to you.
  • Teamwork is welcome.
  • Beginners most welcome, don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!
  • All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to me (NWNCCCMakers @ gmail.com) or a non-Vault link provided by August 1st, 2012 (which is a Wednesday) at 10 AM EST. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. ;-)
Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster (otherwise I will just pester you with questions!):
  • 2da lines needed.
  • Screenshot *from in game* for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie).
  • Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. ** Placeables and monsters should include a portrait. **
  • Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
  • Any credits you would like listed.
  • If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
  • Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send Rolo Kipp a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
  • If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I’m horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.
Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity and surprise!
If you have concerns/questions about this month’s Challenge please post in this thread.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here
***When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.***

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can:
vote for August's theme. The voting dead line is August 1st, 2012 at 8 AM EST.
Submit theme suggestions

I'll be adaptin' me Ki Stone diadems fer the Virusman's openfaced helms. That's not me project this month, but it fits, any ways.

I'll be carvin' a couple pipes and bein' sure they have decent smoke emitters based on me foggy bref. I'll be tryin' fer 3 styles o' smoke: Normal, Rings an' Wizard.

If thet wizard don't give me more time at me forge, thet last smoke will be waitin' a mighty long time.

Fer them as enjoys icons an' such, be mighty friendly ta make some tobac pouches, but I'll nae be houndin' ye fer 'em.

I *might* be up ta makin' some pixie wings fer the Lady Rubies as well. We'll see.

More variety for dynamic Brownies, please.

Dynamic Kenku.

Better-looking merpeople.

Tall elves (I know it's been done, but as far as I know it was a long time ago and is no longer compatible).

Replacing some of the butt-ugly vanilla elf head designs with something better.

Speaking of which - as a spin off from 'normal' vs 'bulky' pheno: thin - normal - bulky; shorter - normal - taller (for all races?).

A comprehensive head hak (including most decent 'normal' content out there as well as Carcerian's crazy heads, if that's possible. *is aware of head-related limitations*

Ways to change facial expressions IG as per what virusman did recently.

Last, though not least - decent-looking hands and forearms for all races. Please. I know this has been partially tackled in the past, but that override does not mesh too well with existing forearms and weapon handling. (I know this is a long shot, unless someone can automate changing all the existing forearm/hand phenos to the upgraded look).

I suppose my quick appearance change tool qualifies.  It's been years since I made it, it's actually onto its third complete revision now (with support for clothing changes as well), but since I don't use the vault, it's never been publicly released (there, at least).

Mavrixio, one of the fine folks at Sinfar, recently asked me if I could do these, they seem perfect for the challenge...

"New ears" Post by Zephyrys @ Sinfar Forums, Mon Jun 11, 2012 2:07 pm

Hello,

I have a couple of cat-girl people, both of a light color (one is light grey, one is white). However, there is an annoying lack of cat ears that would match them. Would it be possible to put in some light-grey-ish cat ears? I also have a foxling character who is red, so an option for some red ears would be appreciated.

Also, having cat/fox ears that actually fit on the side of the head instead of at the top would probably be ideal. Most animal girls in, say, Anime, often have their ears coming from the side of their head, where the ears on a human would be. If there's an NWN limitation on this, though, I'd understand, but it would be great because it would allow people like me to choose any head, even those with visible ears, and just have the animal ears over them. Just a thought.

As Rolo pointed out, no need reinvent the wheel, (when you can just recolor it), and that TAD's ears would be a good base.

I think I'd be tempted to try making them as a necklace so that they could take advantage of a plt. The aligned VFX have far more available slots, but need one pre race, gender, plus colour, to fully work as ears.
If TAD doesn't mind, I'd be curious about trying that with the tiger ears, though I don't expect I'd get anything too good out of it. Moreso for practice.

doing the pipes as a VFX rather than an equippable with an emitter?? If done as an equippable, the animations from the social phenotype might work well with it. then the smoke head aligned vfx simply needs to be added?

Using robes instead (like lisa's musketeer hat) are a possibility as well..

The problem with using the neck slot for headgear is that the head isnt always aligned with it, as i discovered with Halos.

For body changes, I always prefer head aligned VFX. The players can't change the effect by unequipping, and they don't limit player equipment options.

For costume items... yes equipment makes sense.
For actual ears... head-aligned VFX.

By "necklace", I'd meant neck part of the body. I've actually got the human female one made already, TAD's tiger ears added to a "standard" neck, though the plt is being annoyingly unco-operative, and I might have to fashion a custom one to allow for both skinned part and hair.

Yup thats what i meant too :)

Test ingame by making 2 immortal npc with cat ears with opposing factions for an eternal "catfight".

I seem to recall with neck based halos that they didnt like to stay put, discouraging me from making things like mask "necklaces"...

If im wrong and they work fine, awesome, colorable cat ears :)

If not, try a robe id say :)

@Hen

Agreed :)

VFX are the way to go, they are of course more work, and only have one color scheme each (tho recolors id think would be done the standard way)

Clothing based are less prefered for PCs unless your going for "cosplay" costumes, but might be preferable in some cases for npcs, as FB mentioned, they have PLT support...

Carcerian, adding to your list a request:

Cloaks:
- some different adventurer gear options. Q has a great backpack, but some different styles like large slung sack, woven basket etc... would be very nice.

Halfling heads:
- child heads of various races. (but this is of more value to me as a DM)

Forearms:
- a range of bracelets, and bracers for each race
Feet and shins:
- some more combinations that make for good footwear. Occassionally there are some good looking options like the sandals with socks. But we could use many more in this category.
Belts:
- same as above. need some more variety of actual belts.

The main advantages of VFX is that they stack with everything, while players are limited to 1 neck. Neks are already over used I think... for cloaks, back weapons, halo, jewels...
Also, the armor neck will override the body neck so if the player equip an armor that it having its own neck part they will loose their ears :/

For now we're putting the pipes as head-aligned VFX (sheesh, that's getting annoying to type :-P HaV from now on, thank you very much =).

There will be equippable pipes, but the items will be empty models equipped in the off-hand (you need at least one hand free to smoke). The pipe-smoke HaV will line up with the mouth (exhale). We're doing it this way mostly because there are no pheno's I know of for the hand to mouth motion.

Eventually, we may modify the whole setup with a hand model (the placeholder will be in place ;-) and a proper smoking pheno. Bit much for the start, though...

<...on the go board>
