Hello, after jumping through a bunch of hoops and having 3 failed conversations with online help through origin, I finally figured out how to get origin to update my ME3 game.
However, now that the EC is installed, everytime that I enter the game I get a prompt saying that my DLC was unable to be authorized for the EC, and that I should log into the alliance network that I used to purchase the DLC.
Any help from anyone with this?

Exactly the same problem - still looking for a solution. Running windows Vista with all available DLCs downloaded and my Origin account automatically updates the game to the latest version. Installed using a retail standard version of the game. Able to connect to Origin and run the game - but cannot connect to EA server (never have been able to) and authenticate the DLCs. Strong suggestion to Bioware - bring out a patch to allow Origin to at least authenticate DLCs without having to connect to an EA server. At least then we can play single player while this issue with the servers is investigated.

Finally found a fix that worked for me.
Go to C > Windows > System32 > drivers > ETC, and find the file named ‘hosts’. Open it with notepad and delete all the lines with ea.com in it. Save and Play!
