I keep getting a "Security Certificate" notification for "djoscar" -- from this site.

Anyone know what this is about?

Thanks.

Actually -- this should be in the Forum Help section -- can a mod move it? Sorry for flubbing up where I posted this ... :(

Adaram, this site does not use security certificates - please post a URL where you are getting this error, as well as your browser vendor/version. Thanks!

All those 'empty' posts of user iw4o seem to cause this. Using firefox 3.5.5

I'm getting it on the last page of the first sticky-ed thread at the top of this forum:

http://social.biowar.../index/415775/4

Supposedly, it's a Java security warning that reads as follows:

"The applications digital signature cannot be verified. Do you want to run the application.

Name: Java

Publisher: djoscar djoscard

From: http://forum.codecall.net"

yeah, that's not us, looks like either some sort of harmless signature thing, or maybe it's harmful. investigating.

Random useless posts trying to get some code across smells rather fishy. I would even advice forumites to at least do cancel, but also check out your Java settings.

I can't imagine someone going through all the trouble of posting in random forum topics, project discussions and blog comments with an almost empty reply, if it was harmless.
I would assume harmful into proven otherwise. Please at least restrict the iw4o user from posting anymore of these.

he's been perma-banned for posting malicious(?) code in the forums (and nothing of value to cancel that out). we have done a manual query to clean up 71 posts by him, and are working on code to prevent this from happening again.

Cool thanks for responding so fast -- how can I find out if that thing did anything to my computer? I never accepted the cert, but I did look at it before I hit cancel.

If you never accepted the cert and your Java is not on something scary like auto-install, I think you are quite safe. I'm really not about to try out what the thing is supposed to do though :-p

What exactly was it? I got a bad feeling I accidentally clicked run on it whilst I was trying to get something else to load up :(

Running a check on my computer now to see if it finds anything.

Ya, I did the same thing. My first tipoff was the new file on the Desktop named "Infector". Immediately sent it to the bin and emptied it. *Crosses his fingers.*

If anyone actually allowed it to install things, do a virus scan/clean IMMEDIATELY - we've confirmed that it was a malicious applet and it is trying to hack your computer.

Did a virus scan before removing the desktop icon, only thing i did when clicking on the icon was a click/drag to the bin. I've also checked task manager to make sure nothing 'suspicious' is running and can't see anything. I'll do another virus scan just to be sure :)

We have just deployed a fix to the forums to prevent this from happening again.

Cool, yup done a full scan of my computer, nothing bad detected, so looks like I didn't click on any of it to cause it to screw with my computer.
