This makes it easier for my headcanon to 'Kirk' the Catalyst.

Ya know, beat it with my own logic to make it realize what a lie it's been living and destroy itself... granted, there's the whole problem with getting out of the citadel as it's falling apart, but eh, details.

Very nice post OP... I actually came to a similar conclusion independently, posted in another thread, though not quite as eloquently explained.

"I think the Reapers, being locked into their purpose for millions of years (like a shackled AI) are looking for a way out. All three RGB endings offer this in some form - Destroy is like committing suicide, Control gives them a new purpose controlled by Shepard, and Synthesis is like being unshackled (in a good way). "

This post touches on why I chose the synthesis option. I spent several minutes thinking about that final decision, and while I leaned at first towards destruction, the control option made me realize that I was going to destroy not just the Geth, but everything that remained of all of the galactic civilizations over the last billion years, and choosing "control" was, frankly, never even vaguely on my plate. I reluctantly decided on one of the three bad choices.

I will note in passing that without all of the hundreds of hours of philosophical argument that goes on here on the board, in that 5 minutes, I also decided that I might as well trust the options provided to me by the creature that summoned me, unconscious, up to this spot.

Later, I realized that in actuality, the Catalyst might have been lying to try and get me to perform some action that its programming made it incapable of doing in a bad way, like destroying some kind of AI shackle placed on it by the Protheans. I'm not sure how entering into the beam of the Crucible would do that, and I'm not positive why offering me 3 different choices would do that, but whatever :). Then I watched the "IT" youtube video, and thought that seemed plausible if not probable, but if it was true, then I guess it's time for a "return to last save" and continue :).

While it can't be proven beyond any doubt, you present enough proof for me to be able to choose it as my own interpretation without it feeling "head canon". And I really like it. Thank you, OP.

I really like this interpretation, and it makes sense to me and how I interpreted the game/s/ before. I think I'll add this to my head cannon. Thank you for taking the time to put your thoughts into words. You're pretty much as awesome as the BSN poster who cracked the "what was the mysterious thaig" enigma in the DA2 forum. ^__^

Thank you for putting my thoughts into words, fair denizen of the BSN! But what do you think about the Catalyst taking the shape of the child from Earth?

I take that as good salesmanship lol. It would be similar to a company using a marketing campaign to make what they're selling appeal to the customer. We have no gauge for just how advanced an AI or VI the Catalyst is and if we learn from Javik We are still in our infancy as far as development. It's plausible a hyper advanced species Could design an omniscient AI/VI, one that can read a mind and disguise itself in a more appealing visage.

Very great interpretation, and I very much thank you for giving me enough reasons to believe it. You explained your point of view perfectly, and I was actually considering the fact that Harbinger was opposing his own nature during the final rush to the beam.

And you're absolutely right, it cannot be denied that every single Reaper Shepard met was impressed by his/her strong will, deep sense of morality and ability. It perfectly fits that they found the strenght to oppose their own programming being inspired by Shepard, just like everyone else in the Galaxy found the strenght to overcome the odds thanks to him/her.

Now my suggestion is: if Shepard is actually saving the Reapers, can we say that the Catalyst/the Reapers depict Synthesis as "their favourite" ending not because they don't want to die/be controlled, but because they want to be free from their programming once and for all? Because they want to... understand?

Oh absolutely. Listen to the starchild it is their ideal solution because it basically facilitates the Reapers' goal of homogenizing every species without the normally, necessary carnage.

*sigh*

There is no homogenization of the species. If you didn't believe it before, just watch and listen to the EC epilogue.

The Devs have stated that Harb says nothing in the run to the beam its just random noise.

The devs say a lot of things...

E.g., casey hudson said it is 'in no way and A, B or C ending'

Michael gamble said there would be no new endings in the EC....hence refuse

Its definitely possible. I wish they had explored this better, but the Reapers were trapped by their own system as much as organics were. It has to get mind-numbingly dull killing things and then waiting 50,000 years and killing them again. First couple thousand times its probably fun, but eventually...

Well thats true, but I haven't heard any "save me" in any of my play throughs, only on you tube so thats suspect as well.
