BioWare desperately wants us to choose Synthesis.

Before EC, the game was jam-packed with religious alusions, topped off by the light shining down on Shep as he ascended on the magic elevator, his Christ-like sacrifice, and Joker and EDI fulfilling their ultimate Adam and Eve roles on Gilligan's Planet (aka the Garden of Eden). How "deep" and "soulful".

After EC, the Synthesis ending is jam-packed with over-the-top happy ending-ness. Everyone (except Shep) is alive, everyone is perfect and possibly immortal, everyone is friends with everyone else. The Reapers share the knowledge and wisdom of previously-reaped civilizations from throughout galactic history. Good grief. All we're missing is rainbows and lollipops and kittens having babies with puppies.

I keep thinking of that scene in The Matrix, where Mr. Smith is talking
to Morpheus about how they had to scrap their first version of the
matrix. They made it too utopian, you see, and people started freaking
out because they wouldn't accept it. That's how many people feel about
Synthesis. We. just. don't. believe. it.

You people are depressing.

*shrug*

Even if it weren't so overtly silly and green, I still wouldn't choose it.  Mass violation and all that.

I believe that it doesn't matter if I do something; what's important is if something happens. If I just let everyone die instead of killing them all, I may not be as dangerous to others actively as the one who killed them all, but the outcome is just as bad and I must abhor my inaction as much as I do the Reapers' actions. Hence, Refusal is never an option.
As for the others, Destroy is also a mass violation, and Control is... well, it has the fewest moral issues, but the Catalyst itself went down the path of trying to keep everything intact through normal means before resorting to the Reapers. It strikes me as too risky to be ideal. In addition to the fact that Synthesis is basically my own dream for life come true.

Yes, yes.  No need to be quite so literal.

Not going to get into with you, Xili. I already know that I can point out false equivalence fallacies and bat down straw men all day long, and still never get anywhere. Pick Synthesis all you want. I can't stop you, obviously.

If anything, Destroy barely has anything going for it, the galaxy just goes back to what it was like before, no eternal peace, no all powerful Gods, but everything is slightly worse now that all Synthetics have been destroyed. Still picked it anyway, ReaperShep gives me bad vibes and Synthesis is just too far-fetched for me to even consider it canon.

Indeed not. Nor can you try to force your dreams of it just being a Reaper trick into the game itself when such is never demonstrated.

Do you take it at face value? Do you think people would happily accept being imposed such a change?

And how much suspense of disbelief do you have?

Sorry, will not get into that anymore. Already done that too often. Useless and (after a while) tiring it has shown to be...

I've been playing the extended cut and watched some Youtube videos about the other endings. As soon as Shepard enters the catalyst, it seems to be against choosing the destroy option. The catalyst is very positive about the other two options. That is because the Reapers will survive. But it warns about the destroy option ("Others will be destroyed as well"). The Crucible is against it.

Also, I think if Shepard has got a high EMS, the Crucible gets worried, Shepard is so intend on destroying the Reapers that he brought half the galaxy with him. So the Crucible presents Shepard with a third option. An option where life is basically 'heaven on earth'. Very positive sounding, but the reapers survive and Shepard doesn't.

I think when choosing destroy, you survive the last trial Shepard faces: the Reapers manipulating Shepard to NOT destroy them. When choosing for destroying the Reapers, Shepard survives. I really feel Destroy is the real canon ending. Maybe there even will be a Mass Effect 4 following after the events of the Destroy ending.

I think there were more hints at destroy being the only 'right' option but I forgot some of them. Thoughts?

look pal the ending is simply 4 options
you die and become an **** no matter what you choose

destroy- good you have killed the reapers and you are now a mass murder you have committed genocide upon your allies the geth and killed EDI leaving joker to die alone "you killed her!" ..."you bastard!!"

control - welcome to the demented brainwashing society you have just brainwashed two complete races you are an abomination and you will probably end up committing genocide yourself in around 10000 years or so
may the genocide you will commit be much quicker and easier then that of the god kid

synthesis - congratulation you abomination you have just forced everyone in the galaxy into becoming walking toasters you have also remove all diversity in the universe creating an utopia out of one race
"thumbs up" you have just destroyed everything that was special about life

refuse- you have made the right choice and told the deus ex machina "up urs" and by doing so told ME team you hate the ME3 original story but since you have chosen to "refuse" the artistic value of the bad written plot bioware have given you are sentenced to watch all your buddy's get murdered and butchers since you HAVE FAILED everyone dies

aaa mass effect 3 you can't really win this game

I think they like what they did with presenting synthesis as an option, and the fact that it hinges on having the more thorough game (the more completely-erected Crucible). But I don't think they consider it the best choice. If there's a source stating they find it the best, outside of an off-the-cuff personal opinion, I'd like to see it.

Whether Destroy is their intended choice? Eh, who knows at this point. I wonder if the DLC will add context to that argument.

You say that like genetic code is a sapient being that can be harmed. And the people of the galaxy certainly don't look like they've been harmed themselves.

Wrong. Starkid says everyone will be the same DNA :D
So no diversity
just incest and mutations because of incest

So when Joker bangs EDI he is basically banging his sister

It couldn't be forced until they had the right person to do so, I think, as Shepard is a required component for Synthesis by virtue of being a combination of organic and synthetic.
