If we're going to actually do four team sniper runs and eagle runs, I think we should make them as pure to being base weapon challenges as possible.
As far as I know, the sniper run is something the group has never competed on in such a wlde scale, and it would be interesting to see how we fare on such a game.
I think we should add the stipulation Silent Blade suggested about no grenade gear being allowed but do that for the Sniper runs and maybe the Eagle runs, too. These are meant to be weapon challenges, aren't they? (And aren't Eagles supposed to be held by Batarians of some kind in this group, not that I've ever cared for that idea?)
I don't feel too strongly about the following, but I'd support not allowing any grenade use period in either event, or possibly something even more restrictive for characters allowed on a sniper run, though that may be too restrictive, and I'm sure that certain restriction would make the runs insufferable to people who already didn't like them in the first place, so I think we need to find a compromise on the stipulations for the run(s). I'm sure we all have particular challenges that we hate, but I think it's something really different to try and will surprise some people with how much fun these different types of runs are. And these types of runs are fun to some of the major participants in this tournament, just like some hated the duos, and others loved them. I'm glad we're having so many events so we can ensure that just about, (I'd hope all!!) of us are having some fun with at least one of the challenges per week.
(I would even have liked to have all-melee only game with heavy restrictions on power use, no missiles, and no grenades, but I doubt enough people would want to do one, and would find one incredibly tedious given how hard it is to kill bosses with, so I won't push for something like that. If ideas like that an anathema to a great majority of the players, then those of us who are interested in such a thing should just arrange privately to have a competition and drop it. I assume this is not the case with the Sniper run since it has been approved as an event. I'd be interested in Slim's medal challenge idea, too, but if that's shot down, I'd suggest the same for melee. I'm most interested in having a tournament that challenges us in as many different fun ways as possible, rather than making everything a generic speedrun. I salute the captains for the events thus far even though there a couple I haven't been that found of--it at least challenged me in a unique way.)
tl;dr: I think Navi is right about grenade use, and I'd extend to possibly the Eagle run, too--it makes sense that if we're having specific weapon challenges, that it be about the weapons and not something else like a Biotic Death Squad (isn't that the Goddess run already?) or Grenadiers happening to hold these weapons. Sure, it'd be slower games to add restrictions, but I doubt an all Sniper run wouldn't be that much slower than a typical Unknown Gold game without much strategy. I don't know where I'd suggest drawing the line though, but I'm sure there's a reasonable point we can agree on to add some stipulations while not strangling character use.
If we want to nuke spawns with grenades, then we should have a Grenadier challenge, not pollute the sniper challenge (and possibly the Eagle challenge as well) into something they aren't supposed to be. At least outlaw grenade gear for the Sniper and possibly Eagle challenge (I don't know what the group's standard Eagle run is, I'm more willing to be flexible on that one since it's evidently a Team AreleX tradition, and I don't know how you guys ran that. It should probably be run in a nostalgic way, in my opinion).
