Ther is a option in-game for tuning down the blood. Atleast what i read from a dev on the old forums once.

And it makes them cold inside from the loss of blood! You simply can't go wrong. Posted Image

In all seriousness, the level of blood does seem a bit excessive, but it's my understanding that you'll be able to toggle the gore on and off so it shouldn't be that big of an issue.

I haven't seem many games were you can't tone down the blood and gore so i don't think this game will be any exception.

Indeed, I am certain that a dev said that there will be an option to dial down the blood or eliminate it altogether.

For what it's worth, I'm in the "too much blood" camp myself. I think it's cartoonishly exaggerated in a game that's obviously going for realism.

I play violent games, and I have never before said "that game is too bloody for me." But from what I've seen of DA, it's going to be a huge distraction and a major annoyance. So I sure hope there's a violence slider (I know Bioware did this with all the NWN games) or a quickly released mod.

Part of my reason is that I'm a dad with 2 young kids in the house. Games that can only be played after they're in bed tend not to get played because I forget the plot over the months it takes me to finish.

But even as someone who appreciates artistic violence, I think blood splatters should be rare enough to be shocking. If every battle is seen through a red fog, the game loses that visceral thrill when your assassin slits a throat or your berserker cleaves a skull. Maybe it's just me, but I thought the blood in Kill Bill so over-the-top goofy that it very quickly lost all meaning. The only scene that really made me squirm was when the bride squished that chick's eyeball.

See? Unexpected. Shocking. Memorable.

Did u get a chance 2 read CoS Sara Jinstar's statement on the 'use' of blood as a cinematic tool by bioware?  If not, it's in the 1st cpl pgs of this thread....

I'm a dad of 2 also, so I understand ur stance...  But some games just have 2 b 4 us...  And DAO caters 2 that in a new and envigorating way.   Posted Image

Has anyone seen footage of blood coming out of skeletons and ghosts? I read about it in a German magazine, but haven´t actually seen that it is true.

I mean I don´t mind blood coming out of "meatbags" actually containing blood, but out of a skeleton? That would make the whole blood option in DAO a comedy event imho, and surely result in a turn off of the blood option for me.

Love violence, always have. More blood the better in a game like this. Especially considering it's not totally unrealistic- cut an artery with some thick claymore and you're going to get a splatter of blood and gore. Hell, compared to real life a lot of Dragon Age is tame- violence is just a part of our species, ain't so bad. Enjoy it a little bit, have fun with it.

Blood and gore is alright. You feel a bit more awesome after destroying your opponent when you're drenched in blood. But it can get boring with to much. In Fallout 3 it gets a bit old to shoot of your enemy's head every time you shoot at him, you get tired of it. Overdoing the blood and gore should only be used rarely (like megacrits or something like that) or when fighting bosses or über monsters of apocalypse.

Blood adds realism if done right. This blood looks funny to me, and there's so much you can become numb to it. A funny aerosol cloud of red isn't artistic blood to me. If you want artistic gore, go play Silent Hill series. I love Bioware and I know I will bow before this game, so this is just pre-launch knit pickery.

From what I've understood: it's a toggle in the options, no need to modifiy any file.

But the toggle doesn't affect the blood in the cutscenes, I'd rather not have blood splattered on my armor and face during a cutscene either.

I like it its realistic in any medieval battle you are hand to hand blood is squirting out in all directions truly shows how dark this game is and is meant to be. Its Rated M go play WoW if you dont like blood.

Blood = Good

Crappyily detailed lack of enthusaistic effort Bliood = Pathetic. - The blood splattered on the people doesn't look realistic at all. Very bland and basc, no lighting effects... Devs should be ashamed.

I don't quite understand why all the people who claim to love blood bother posting in this thread. What does it matter to you if someone makes a mod to turn off the gore? It's optional, you won't have to download it, much less use it.

As far as I'm concerned, the whole head-flying-off gore in Fallout 3 got annoying pretty quickly. I found myself, after one too many times watching the head of the guy I had just killed roll, that I could just turn that animation off. I have similar expectations concerning the blood geysers in DA.

That's why I'd like a mod to toggle them (and the blood on characters, which as DeathFrogg said, looks pretty bad imo) off, or at least reduce them.

If it doesn't come quickly, I'll try to do it myself, even though editing animations or textures isn't really my thing.

What really bugs me is how easy it seems to be in the trailers to cut through armor. During gameplay, sure, it'd be too much of a hassle to make sure that blows only went through weak points and openings, but even during cut scenes (such as the afore mentioned blood n guts trailer) swords seem to be perpetually going through breastplates and the like as if they were nothing more than tree bark. I like realism in my RPG's, but blood spurting from a piece of metal seems a little far-fetched to me.

Of course, I could be wrong on this. Anybody know how often armor actually got rents in it in medieval battles?

Well, those talking about blood and realism ... how about that one here: Sword blows could NOT penetrate even thin plate armor. The tactic was to use concussive blows to break bones inside the armor or cause organ haemmorrhage (or you tried to stab through the armor joints or the eye slits of the visor with a thin blade).

That means realism is NO excuse for those fountains of blood we've been seeing.

Nothing against blood in principle, but I think I'll have to agree with Taltherion in this matter: blood only being liable to come from exposed areas, such as (depending on the armor) limbs, the face, the neck, perhaps a lucky thrust up under the breastplate, that kind of thing. Plate armor was very expensive, and even good chainmail is bloody time-consuming.

I suppose a good spear would be able to go through armor, at least if either the stabber or the stabbee was on a quickly moving horse, and I've heard that longbows and crossbows could punch through plate, but I'm not sure how much blood would come through the hole and how much would just splatter on the inside of the armor, even if the armor were rent or there was a stab in through a joint.

Further research shows: even chainmail was very difficult to penetrate with sword slashes or many other medieval weapons, best weapon against opponents in chainmail were again concussion weapons.
