I just started playing ME1 on a PC.  I'm using an Xbox controller.

My question is, how much do you have to control your squad?  Do you have to tell them everything to do?  Do you have to tell them to use their powers or will they use them on their own?  If so it's like playing three different people at once.

To an extent it's alterable in the game play settings. Squad talents can be set to auto or defensive only, the latter option being for when you get fed up with them wasting abilities on some junior mook just when you were about to tell them to use it to blast a more dangerous enemy. I prefer to tell them everything and make a lot of use of the pause effect when bringing up the power options on the screen to get over the three people at once thing, but if you don't like pausing the action then set talents to automatic and leave them to it. You'll probably still need to pause to use the same screen to tell them where to go and take cover etc unless you've mapped the keyboard cursor keys to controller buttons and don't mind both squadmates going to the same place all the time. I suppose you could just leave them to fend for themselves but the AIs not all that bright and you may end up having to use medigel to revive them more if they keep standing round and getting shot.
