Hmm, so now both Alistar and the Pc have competition.

Alistar-The Hair

Pc-Well, Ser Gilmore thought he was suppossed to be chosen by Duncan...

And very cool, times like this l cry a little for owning the Ps3 version......maybe one day these will come to consoles.

Why do you have to choose? Have them both. You control the script!  :D:ph34r:

Ooh very nice! Would it be possible to bring back other characters as well? Jowan, the "Ima touch this mirror"-elf or others?

Nice work, well done. In my Nth playthrough I'm getting tired of playing with the same old npcs again and again.

Cool mod, it was such a shame Gilmore died when the only thing you ever see him kill was rats. Not very noble for him. And then we just see him holding a door closed.

I don't suppose your going to try to splice some of Ser Gilmore's already existing audio to make him say new things?

Unlikely, I'm afraid.  Mods are the #1 reason I'm a PC diehard when it comes to my gaming platform.  I'm no expert on development for the PS3, but traditionally consoles have never had such support and I imagine that, even if it is technically feasible now that modern consoles can easily connect to a PC for file transfer and have internal hard drives (older console games loaded 100% of their content off a non-writable disc or cartridge, so of course mods and patches and any other changes to the game as it shipped were completely out of the question), I doubt everything is implemented identically on all platforms, so it wouldn't just be a matter of someone figuring out how to load DA mods on PS3; the best case you could hope for is probably that someone would figure out how to make DA mods specifically for the PS3, but I doubt it's possible and if it is it will likely involve some fancy techie tricks and potentially game-destroying hacks and workarounds.

Long story short: if you want moddability, migrate to PC.  They can keep declaring the platform dead but as long as we get all the mods, I'll be inclined to disagree.  Hey, that rhymed, albeit awkwardly!

that would be pretty awesome if you could get voice over for him... too bad it would be rediculously difficult. almost impossible

Lol, I made my own voice overs for BG2, it wasn't that hard. Not suggesting myself to do the voice for your mod though hehe.

Would take some time with your mod but it should be possible to change his voice from the background story and then add your own lines in for your mod. Would just have to pick a guy whose voice sounds good. The voice would add a lot more personality to him, my team already has a telepathic mute (the main char) and that's one too many.

I like you already. haha i would love to become one of those voice over guys or make my own voice overs.... but two problems.

1. I'm very lazy

2. i would know how the story goes if i was the voice over guy and it would ruin the surprise.

Didn't Ser Gilmore's Corpse can be seen during the prison break-out cutscene? The intro scene where the torture devices where featured? I think i saw him there...

Great work though! =D

Aw, thanks, everybody

I'll answer everything:

1- About "bringing back" other people: Yes, of course it's possible, but let me tell you, it's a lot of work in several fronts! Programming it all in a way that works takes time, and the first 18297391823 attempts it doesn't work. Aside from that, it takes A LOT of time to write a believable story and develop a believable character, which is what I'm trying to do. I don't think Gilmore is a tool you can command. And finally, you'll have to make choices. You may have a million ideas of things you want to do in the mod, but many won't work from a technical standpoint and many wont work because you are adding to an already existing story.
I'm not mentioning that so far I have around 800 dialog lines and I'm not even finished with the "nice to see you again" part of the human noble origin. I haven't started to edit these first dialogs for the other origins and I haven't started to put the romance lines into paper. After that, it'd be cool if he could comment about plot things from the game... So... yeah. He has a lot to say, I figure.

After this, beta test, see where more dialog options can be added, see which ones are really not working. Edit, edit, edit, fix, fix, fix.

So, long story short: adding a NPC takes a lot of time and dedication. :-(

2- About being a human noble... I think first I need to say where I want to go with this mod.
This mod brings back a 25 year old Knight of Highever by the name of Ser Roland Gilmore.

If you are a human noble: I'd like to give the players the opportunity to choose their "origin" with him. Were you teenage sweethearts (separated when your dad discovered you kissing, omg)? Were you besties in your childhood? Maybe you never saw each other? You'll be able to choose between these 3 options and continue onwards.

If you are anything else: Well, then, "pleased to meet you, let's see how this adventure goes". :-)

Needless to say, this mod will feature a romance for all races and all genders (so men can finally have their knight in shiny armor).
I'd also very much like to feature a romance between him and Leliana if the PC is uninterested in him, but at this point it's only wishful thinking.

Long story short (I'm sorry, I tend to ramble): This mod will work no matter your origin, but if you are a human noble you may get some extra dialogs about his childhood memories (if you go to the project page you can read some without being spoiled). All origins and genders can romance him.

3- About VO: This is something I'll leave until the absolute last because I want the texts to be 100% final, beta-ed, copywrited and tested. I can't ask someone to voice something that may later change 30 times... So you'll have to excuse me if the first released beta will feature no VO at all... at some point, yes, I'd love him to be voiced.

Companies like Bioware get their voices by casting real voice actors, normally from a voice acting company. Otherwise, they cast celebrities, as you know. ...that costs money. Money I won't spend! Heheheh.

Thanks, people, even though I'm making this mod for my very own shamelessly selfish reasons, I'm very glad you think he's cool! :-D

EDIT:

4- About him being found dead in Howe's castle. Never in the game it's said that it's Ser Gilmore, so it can be another read haired guy.

EDIT 2: Forgot to mention this, but I sent a PM to David Gaider to see if he had some notes about him, and he replied only with his name (Roland, "Rory", for short), that he was age 12 when he arrived to Highever, that he is the son of a Bann ("probably") and nothing else. Therefore, if the creator didn't tell me he's 100% and unequivocally dead, then I'll just go ahead and assume he is not. :-D
