Melinda M. Snodgrass was the writer for the classic episode "Measure of Man" which contains Picard's court room speech arguing for Data's independence. It's this scene that was so influential in my thinking, and perhaps others, that conflict between organics and synthetics is not inevitable.

She also has a blog where she has written several Mass Effect-related posts. She is currently writing a fanfic.

I knew that just from playing the goddamn game. ST:TNG only solidifies this opinion for me.

It is Bioware story. Plus, Me3 is le art contrary to pop culture of Star Trek. Plus - Star Trek TNG had no integrity. Borg like synthesis, though.

I'm a little confused about what is it she's trying to say. Is she working with them, or offering? Is she criticizing the ending of ME3?

Yes there was acually a different plot line set up before Drew left for Star Wars. Then Casey H started writing it and through out ALL OF IT and in the process he made ME2s plot not contribute to ME3 at all!

Now matter how awesome this and it is awesome... Bioware is too arrogant and full of themselves to listen... remember.. "75 perfect scores"

But this is great find AtlasMickey, I am going make sure to keep following this story

"Measure of a Man" is among my top 5 TNG episodes.

I look forward to the fanfic.

I wish BioWare had gone to some of the great talent out there for a better story than the one they told in ME3. Hints of greatness (Tchunka, Rannoch) smashed to pieces by the terrible central stories (Cerberus, Crucible) and the god-awful ending.

She's right, Bioware should give her a call.

And the geth who drove the Quarians into exile, the Zha'til, the Metacons, and Project Overlord suddenly mean nothing? Regardless of the outcomes of these situations, conflict DID happen.

The metacons weren't a synthetic race that was just the name of the war. The Zha'til were working for the Reapers, the Geth didn't start that conflict and it can still end in peace.
And conflict will always occur whether between two organic species or between synthetic and organic. Just because it occurs though doesn't mean one side gets wiped out completly.

After reading that she wanted a generic style ending I was like lol no.

I'm not the biggest fan of the one we got but at least it's not derivative. They just needed to give the catalyst a more logical reasoning and it would be fine.

I too enjoyed it.  I thought it was terrific, it really did lay out some thoughts as to what makes a person a person.  And it is precisely the story of Data that puts a total lie to the existence or need for the catalyst.  It's not just Data, but the take on his existence that is seen within ME itself.  There's Avina, who constantly tells you what she cannot tell you if you ask her how she feels about things.  And then there's Legion and EDI.  What is so stupid about the ending and the choices is that there's no clear option that does honor to them.  Synthesis directly conflicts with what EDI seems to be trying to accomplish and what Shepard may say in response to her questions.  She actually starts kind of de-programming certain things within her to become more human.  But she is evolving.  She is earning the right to be a person.

Your Shepard teaches EDI and the geth (Legion) things, but mostly they are teaching themselves.  EDI jumped into the body-under her own impulse.  They have learned to get along, but saying they can't is just defeatest and it doesn't allow for the fact that people might actually sometimes do the right thing.  What's actually really rather obvious is there's this dismissive attitude toward synthetic life.  Synthetic people are at once over and above organics--the kid says they will always surpass their creators--and yet, they are extremely stupid and can't consider (as true sentient beings, like EDI) that working together might be mutually beneficial.
