I still love Mass effect 2 and 3 don`t get me wrong but there`s something about the original that gets my blood pumping. Maybe its shepards crazy adventures in the mako or that the series wasn`t so tainted with negitivity like it is right now.

(remember there are NO wrong answers)

1. Anyone else missing the mako?
2. Did anyone else notice that the facial animations and lip syncing are actually better in mass effect 1 or is that just me?
3. Which mass effect game in the trilogy is your favorite ?  and why?

4. The reapers where machines then they became cyborg terminator rip offs. What happend?  (please answer)
5. What the hell happend to MY shepards story in mass effect 3 ?  Bioware said it was their story of MY shepard....WTF?

Oh yeah, ME1 is my favorite hands down. I'm with you, I loved ME2, and overall ME3 was pretty good.

1. Yes! i loved the Mako!! No matter how many people say they hated it and that it was slow and dumb, i disagree. I have fond memories of exploring planets on that baby, and I'd do it again too. (yeah, i dont care if most of the planets looked the same)

2. Hmm, i don't know about that one. i think the facial expressions got better with each game.

3. The first one. It had a believeable world and characters. The exploration gave it life, and there were many people to talk to, it all added to the experience. ME1 felt like a living world i was a part of.
I'm also a sucker for simple stories (some know it as the heroes journey), and ME1 is relatively simple plot and i love it for that.

4. Well new writers happened. I don't think the catalyst belongs in ME at all. I'm a fan of Vigils quote "In the end what does it matter? Your survival depends on stopping them, not understanding them." The reapers didn't need a specific origin, they just needed to be stopped IMO.

5. Casey Hudson happened. This is the story he and Mac Walters wanted to tell, and i don't think they asked or cared what anyone else thought. In the end, they still got your money :(

I loved the Mako. I loved the attempts to create a seamless world with the airlocks and, yes, the elevators. I loved a carefully crafted universe with real science used to justify fantastic elements. I loved how everybody wore proper armoured suits. I loved the attention to detail. I loved the feel of the SR-1. I loved Sovereign and Saren, both in their respective ways effective antagonists. I loved the final battles. I loved the ending.

I loved Mass Effect 1, and I believe that's because it's developers loved it too, and it shows.
It may not have been perfect. Nothing is, but it was a genuinely gratifying experience from beginning to end.

This.

"Hey Samara, it's 200 below. Aren't your boobs cold?"

"Miranda, this atmosphere is composed of chlorine, why hasn't your skin melted?"

Disagree.

All of them are equally good in their own way, but if we have to pick favorites I'll pick ME2.
That game literally made me jump out of my chair the moment I finished it.

1. I do actually. But seeing dozens of them at the end of 3 was a pleasant surprise, just wish we couldve drove one ourselves!
2. They're actually best in KotOR! j/k, I think you're right.
3. As stated above, ME2, why? Because its like a big hoagie! Full of all sorts of good ingredients in a big package that will leave you full and satisfied...and maybe feeling a little gluttonous afterwards.
4. I believe its a Contra reference, which I have no problem with.
5. Thats a random question and do not feel obligated to answer it because it derails the topic too much.

I'm playing through all three, right now my money is on Mass Effect 2 for the great characters, improved combat (the difference between 1 and 2/3), and great locations and side-quests.

First of all, the lip sync in Mass Effect 1 is about as proficient as the original Half-Life's. It's just bad. I don't know where you got that. Secondly, Mass Effect 3 really did offer your Shepard's story (perhaps not as much as 2), it just didn't conclude. You had all the ingredients in place - cure/sabotage the Genophage, Rannoch, etc. - but you never get any conclusion as to how the galaxy is affected by Shepard after his death.

Anyways, what I miss about Mass Effect 1 isn't the writing, which was a bit forced and hole-y. It certainly wasn't the combat, which was punishing and dull. It wasn't the equipment system, which was a headache. It wasn't even the skill system which, while more RPG-ish than 2 and 3, offered benefits that were really quite minor per point.

What I miss about Mass Effect 1 is that feeling of exploration. You don't get that in many modern games. Everything is set, you know everything there is to know about your world, you're given a weapon and told to kill the bad guys. Mass Effect 1 offered uncharted worlds, exotic planets, and ancient ruins. There were ancient Prothean skyscrapers, towering over the clouds, and long-abandoned labs where the remains of a lost race remained in stasis modules. The Protheans were an enigma, a mind-boggling mystery - the scene with Vigil was one of the best moments in the series (and then, Javik ruined that enigma). Then the Reapers were intimidating. Unknowable. If only there was a single Reaper that could match Sovereign. He was the perfect villain. He told us he had a reason for killing us, but our minds couldn't comprehend it. We existed because they allowed it, and we would end because they demanded it.

The general feel of Mass Effect 1 is something that no game has ever captured, before or since. But from a literary perspective it had some shakey plot development and poor characterization. From a gameplay perspective... ha.

Seriously! See my above note about a living world. So yeah, the elevators were slow and airlocks were annoying to some. But it all added to the experience. i walked into an airlock before i got on my ship, I waited in an elevator and listened to the galactic news, or heard my squadmates banter. It all added life to the game, how could watching a load screen add to immersion?

Gonna have to disagree. I love the ME series to death and I can't even bring myself to play ME1 anymore. Combat is clunky, planet exploration is tedious, and elevators... my god, the elevators.

1. Anyone else missing the mako?

Oh, God yes.  Loved the Mako.  If there was a game that was just mako, I'd buy it.

2. Did anyone else notice that the facial animations and lip syncing are actually better in mass effect 1 or is that just me?

Didn't notice it.

3. Which mass effect game in the trilogy is your favorite ?  and why?

Mass Effect 1.  It's like Star Wars A New Hope.  It's a stand alone.  While you can play 2 and parts exceed 1, the original is a stand alone adventure you can play over and over again.

4. The reapers where machines then they became cyborg terminator rip offs. What happend?  (please answer)

Who knows.  I guess they obsessed themselves with the concept of the Reapers instead of its effect.  They kept evolving the Reapers into a more definable species until they were no longer as ominous as they were in 1.

5. What the hell happend to MY shepards story in mass effect 3 ?  Bioware said it was their story of MY shepard....WTF?

False advertising.

I just typically never brought the characters who weren't properly covered up.

Well said.

The only part I disagree with is the lip synching. It got worse or at least seemed to get worse because Shepard akwardly smiled a lot in the sequels.. In ME1 he only smiles near the end.

Only thing i hated about ME1 was the silliness of the thorian, other than that, everything was perfect.

Unlikely.
What I fear is a remake, with all the stuff that doesn't appeal to "broader audiences" removed.

I agree all were good but in different ways. Mass effect 2 for example was great for me because of the large crew and alot more dialog. It also sucked plot wise and that dumb terminator thing at the end was not enjoyable at all.

Why orange text?
Also, saying the ending was not enjoyable at all baffles me.

Hey! You only love that smile because of the epic music and the fact that you just beat sovereign!! ... and I love it too!
Honestly though, I don't pay a whole heck of a lot of attention to lip synchs. I play with subtitles on and i usually read along with the plot.

That is exactly why I am proud to own the original. No remake could be better than the original. It's uniqueness cannot be dupliacated no matter how you try.

As an artist, if I were to draw a picture and make it almost flawless, I could not replicate that same exact work from scratch and make it look just as amazing. It just isn't possible.

A remake would be bad bad bad. I like ME1 as it is. The flaws and some of the combat mechanics make it unique in it's own right!

LOVED Mass Effect 1, still do. I freely admit that ME2 is the superior game, but no game in the series made me feel the same way ME1 did. I loved the story more, the exploration, side quests, RPG mechanics, romance story and the villain. The Reapers were way creepier too. And yes I loved the Mako, i spent so much time in that thing.

The suicide mission was pretty great. Everything you did in the game came down to the end, really masterfully done.
But ME1 was my first love, and it has my favorite companions (No Liara in ME2!) What did it for me was the dialogue. Sure there was more dialogue in ME2... but it's spread out. I liked talking to Tali and Liara both about their culture, politics, religion, everything. Those two characters in particular had more to say than any squadmate in ME2. At least that's how i feel, because I was more interested in those characters than the ME2 ones.
