I like inventory systems with customization options, but the ME1 system was just bloated and tedious.
I think you have to have some serious rose-colored glasses on to say its the best. And don't get me wrong. It's still a great game. The soundtrack is still amazing and the characters are easy to relate to. But aesthetically and mechanically it's a flawed or un-evolved version of the series.
I think combining ME2's item system, dialogue, and general length with ME3's cinematic presentation and fluid combat would make for the perfect game. and I suspect that's what they will be aiming for in the series' next installment.

But that was one janky game! Bugs all over the place, rough graphics, reused environments and the combat was not enjoyable.
ME3 played the best of the games but ME2 hit the sweet spot for me with some fantastic new characters (Looking at you Mordin), deeper returning characters (Who knew I would love Garrus so much?) and unforgettable moments (Suicide mission).
I think my enjoyment of 3 was diminished due to my having a "perfect" save imported from ME2. It felt like one long and very improbable class reunion.

By "aesthetically" you mean "fill my screen with boobs"? Because that's what ME2 did.
I'm sorry, aesthetically and story-wise ME1 is the best. Good old science fiction, the other two games filled it with OMGCOMICBOOKAWESOMENEEEEESSSS!!!ONE!!
The inventory system was better in ME3, I'll give you that, but combat, excepting cover mechanics, was much better in ME1, enemies had abilities that they could use on you, biotics were outright terrifying and geth hoppers could fry your weapons. That gave a very nice flavor to the combat, and made you use some power-related tactics (dampening FTW!).

2. I disagree with that. The faces are a lot more detailed and varied. They were very 'dead' looking in ME1 a lot of the time.
3. All of them. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, but combined, they're the best games ever made.
4. I have no idea what you're talking about?
5. It still was. My first playthrough were a lot different to my friend's.

Yes, ME1 will always be my favourite, mainly due to the sheer RPG aspect of it. Shepard only says one word without the player input. Then you can be as rude/poliet as you want to everyone.
In ME1, half the time all your options say the same thing anyway.
It still gave you the sense of full control.
Not like ME3 where Shepard won't shut up.

I still love Mass effect 2 and 3 don`t get me wrong but there`s something about the original that gets my blood pumping. Maybe its shepards crazy adventures in the mako or that the series wasn`t so tainted with negitivity like it is right now.
(remember there are NO wrong answers)
1. Anyone else missing the mako?
2. Did anyone else notice that the facial animations and lip syncing are actually better in mass effect 1 or is that just me?
3. Which mass effect game in the trilogy is your favorite ? and why?
4. The reapers where machines then they became cyborg terminator rip offs. What happend? (please answer)
5. What the hell happend to MY shepards story in mass effect 3 ? Bioware said it was their story of MY shepard....WTF?
1. Anyone else missing the mako?
Yes I miss the Mako
2. Did anyone else notice that the facial animations and lip syncing are actually better in mass effect 1 or is that just me?
Didn't notice.
3. Which mass effect game in the trilogy is your favorite ? and why?
ME1. exploration. In depth storyline. Saren was BA.
4. The reapers where machines then they became cyborg terminator rip offs. What happend? (please answer)
Sovereign is awesome. Dialog between Sovereign an Shepard still gives me goosebumps. "We simply are."
5. What the hell happend to MY shepards story in mass effect 3 ? Bioware said it was their story of MY shepard....WTF?
Shepard went from "I'll find a way to stop them" (ME1) , "We'll do whatever it takes to stop you" (ME2) to " I.... don't know"

Do you think we will ever get a Hi res HD makeover?
Unlikely.
What I fear is a remake, with all the stuff that doesn't appeal to "broader audiences" removed.
Don't say such things! You might give them Ideas! If they did remake ME1 without my Mako or the Elevators I wouldn't buy it. Remember when you could put Frictionless Materials in an AR and shoot forever? Good times, if all the things that made ME1 so much better than 2 and 3 were taken out, there wouldn't be a point to buying it.

I loved the Mako. I loved the attempts to create a seamless world with the airlocks and, yes, the elevators. I loved a carefully crafted universe with real science used to justify fantastic elements. I loved how everybody wore proper armoured suits. I loved the attention to detail. I loved the feel of the SR-1. I loved Sovereign and Saren, both in their respective ways effective antagonists. I loved the final battles. I loved the ending.
I loved Mass Effect 1, and I believe that's because it's developers loved it too, and it shows.
It may not have been perfect. Nothing is, but it was a genuinely gratifying experience from beginning to end.

I agree with The Angry One here.
As much as I love the first game, if they did a HD res Makeover they might start tacking on things to try and justify the walking plothole that is the Catalyst.

Seriously! See my above note about a living world. So yeah, the elevators were slow and airlocks were annoying to some. But it all added to the experience. i walked into an airlock before i got on my ship, I waited in an elevator and listened to the galactic news, or heard my squadmates banter. It all added life to the game, how could watching a load screen add to immersion?
Both 100% correct for me! I so love ME1, wish ME3 had been closer to ME1 again.
Ah well, ME3 seems to me like a completely different universe that uses the same characters sometimes. And is so simplified. I miss my mini-games.
EDIT: Oh and I'm so missing my Shepard actually having choice in what she says to others.

So you didn't mind that Bioware railroaded your Shepard into loads of converstations saying crap they wouldn't say (depending on the player) since it gives it more meaning? Yeah, no.
An example; After Thessia, Shepard is forced to care, regardless of how you really feel.
My Renegade always hated the asari. She felt like they need a good punch from their high horse and felt they utterly deserved it. But no, she was forced to fly into a rage at Joker and be all "Oh boo" with Liara.
It takes away the things that make Shepard feel like OUR Shepard by trying to force these so-called meaningful control tactics and dialogue.

Haha yeah! I love the variants. Especially if you punch the reporter. "...The Commander apparently lost control and assulted the reporter."
Oh you guys don't know the half of it. Knocking her out in ME3 was hilarious. There should have been an achievement for attacking her in all three games. "No friend of the press."

2. They were really good yes, but I don't know if they were better than what we saw in ME2; they were better than what ME3 has, though.
3. ME1 hands down, because I loved everything about it (I'll admit that characters development was better in ME2, but the ME1 team is still my favourite one).
4. Don't know what happened: sometimes knowing the villain's motivations helps and sometimes it doesn't; the info we had from ME1(&2) was enough in my opinion.
5. Meh, of course Shepard could never fully be our character, because some things need to be clearly defined; still, the changes in ME3 were really questionable (2 dialogue lines?!)

ME1 had the best main story, but the characters were mostly underdeveloped (with the main exception being Saren, who imo completely stole the show), the dialogue felt very stilted, the gameplay mechanics - combat, inventory, vehicles - needed a lot of work, and there were quite a lot of graphical glitches. The exploration had a great 'feel' for the first couple of playthroughs, but that was lost over time when I realised that side missions consisted of the same three dungeons just repeated. And once I'd experienced the story a few times and the twists had lost their impact, I began to find it kind of a chore to play through the game because the gameplay was lacking so much.
ME2 is easily my favourite. The main story is the dullest in the trilogy, but for me the characters and their stories made up for it. Characters have always been what Bioware has done best. ME1's story was so good because the villain - Saren - was so compelling. So an entire game focused on characters really was playing to their strengths. The gameplay and graphics were greatly improved, and while I think they did take away too much I still prefer ME2's simpler gameplay to ME1's broken gameplay. The main reason this game is my favourite though is because I can still play it and not get bored, and I think thats down to the fact that every character is pretty well-developed, and their stories are genuinely interesting. Mordin's, Legion's, and Garrus' loyalty missions are some of my favourite missions in the entire trilogy.
ME3 has the most 'natural' characters. Their banter and the fact that they moved around made them feel much more real than they ever did in ME1 or ME2. It has some of the most emotional moments in the whole trilogy. The sadness when Mordin died, the tension when choosing between saving the geth or the qaurians, Thane's death, Grunt emerging from the rachni caves. Very few games have ever been able to induce emotion in me, and ME3 does it multiple times. It also has the best graphics, sound design, gameplay. However, the story isn't as good as ME1's, and in some places I think its worse than ME2's - the Reapers arrive and then minutes later you've found a weapon that can kill Reapers. No foreshadowing, no buildup. The subplots are wrapped up very well though. I think most people agree that the finale to the Genophage plot is one of the best missions in the trilogy.

I never felt like Shepard was my character. Because...she isn't. The choices I get to make add a lot of flavor and replay value, but I was never under the illusion that I was in control of the story. It was always going to end how the writers wanted it to end, regardless of whether I'm paragon or renegade.
So I loved that Shepard was a more fully fleshed out character in ME3. It made the game a much more emotional experience because the main character was a person I could sympathize with, not just a blank slate to project my feelings onto.
