Yes, me advocating for a gay race means I am bashing them. Good job professor.

It really doesn't matter. You can't have an entire species of gay males. It doesn't work. There is no way known that you can ever possibly make the science for that work. By having an all male race you've got an entire species which reproduces without actually producing their own eggs. So they'd need to use another species eggs/embryo to reproduce. Meaning they wouldn't be gay.

So move on.

Incorrect, as you most always are.

Typical.

There isn't much disk-space for another gender, when you already have all these different races. It's unneccacary.

Try again.

There's actually a side mission in ME2 that shows batarians with boobs.

The problem with this is that, biologically speaking, the definition of female is "members of the sex who conceive and give birth to young".

This means an all male race capable of reproducing (which they would have to be to be defined as a species) would, in fact, be female, no matter how masculine they appeared.

Parthenogenesis is absolutely a real thing, but by definition species that produce exclusively by parthenogenesis are female. That's why there can't be a male race, whether all or some members are gay, straight, or bisexual.

(I'm a biologist)

Steve's husband. Kaidan is bisexicle.

Steve has a husband?  Really?  It must have slipped by me.  The game only brought it up about 10,000 times.

Aliens might not reproduce with eggs. They could just be super macho muscle aliens that exchange DNA by kissing or whatever and then reproduce by mitosis

I swear the first batarian we meet on Omega is a she, because farget / salarian dude does "whatever she wants".

And anyway, I thought the big stupid jellyfish were the gay race.

And no, if all the males died in any species, that species would be screwed. You cant evolve past two genders in a single lifetime of that species.

All female populations can result from all the males being killed off, or because the females are isolated. It's not hardt to imagine when the females don't need males to reproduce in the first place. Some of the species I listed barely needed males to begin with. If you removed the males from their population, they would still be able to reproduce.

Bioware made a race of thousand year old blue amphibian lesbians that can have sex with anyone, but where is the race of flamboyantly gay red reptiles? Would anyone want a squadmate like that to keep STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVE company?

That was pretty funny :)

Has anyone ever noticed that a good portion of Asari, even Liara, are rather masculine in demeanor unless they choose otherwise? I think Sylvye did a great job with that while writing Liara. I do not see why these red gay lizards should be by necessity all flamboyant

Male: Adjective 1.Of or denoting the sex that produces small, typically motile gametes, esp. spermatozoa, with which a female may be fertilized or inseminated to produce offspring

An all male species would be impossible. A hermaphroditic species, that is a species in which all individuals have both male and female reproductive organs would be possible. A species with no sexual dimorphism, meaning you couldn't tell the males apart from the females, would be plausible too. A highly complex sapient species with no form of sexual reproduction in its evolutionary history would be very unlikely to evolve in the first place.

The Salarian meant Aria when he said "whatever she wants".

What about the volus? They don't seem to have females. But that's all speculation, though.

Not that I agree, but in answering honestly, I think it has everything to do with the target audience being primarily males who are predominantly heterosexual.

Their species may not display any kind of sexual dimorphism. There are many, many species in the real world that have identical males and females... aprart from their sex organs of course.. and even those can be very similar with some bird species.

Yeah you can't evolve into a single gendered race. The mechanism of evolution itself requires both gendered intact. But it is completely believable that a race might involve as either mono gendered, hermaphroditic or asexual. Thing is a mono gendered male set up is pretty unlikely as who is going to carry the babies or even lay the eggs? Almost any mono gender would be by definition female. Not because they are biologically female but because lets face it when it comes to reproduction womens bodies to most of the work. It is quite feasible that male functionality gets integrated into the female gender. However to be able to nurse/lay eggs/carry a fetus to term we would have difficulty calling the body male in any way anymore.

There are several all female species; they do exist. Once you have a a female that can produce diploid eggs without a male, all it takes to produce an all female species is the isolation of a few females, or the death of all the males. Evolution isn't even involved in this case, just isolation or death of the males.

I agree for the most part, but male sea horses would like to have a word with you on those two points.

On a slight tangent, does this make the aliens in Alien mongendered, male, or asexual?

They would probably be best described as a quasi-viral all female parthenogenetic species.

Interestingly, they have a real world analog in the form of an all female ant species.
