The EC doesn't make Synthesis seem like the Genetic Rape that I originally thought it was.
Destroy is now my least favorite option.
because watching nanite particles intermesh with DNA isn't hardcore enough for you?
Watching everyone go green eye, and seeing the glowing green eyes on sillouettes was really disturbing to me. It seemed like I was watching the borg collective starting up.

But with EDI's voice over explaining how the galaxy as a collective has improved. How the Reapers collection of genetic material has only been a positive in overall quality of life. How they can ascend to a level only dreamed of before. How noone will ever have to die from war again. How everyone is now an awesome shade of green.
Synthesis is like me walking down a dark alley and out of nowhere some girl grabs me and throws me on the ground, and then starts to aggresively grind on me. Then she removes her hood and it's Olivia Wilde. Then she gives me a Nutella sandwich afterwards.
Started off scary. Wound up being better than you could have ever dreamed.

Right because Technotropic Utopias always end up well in the long run......right?
Because having all that power in one place never corrupted anybody....right?
I mean there are a number of ways this could go bad, just because EDI didn't mention it doesn't mean there aren't way to do it.

Also, what did we think of the husk coming to life? I'll bet no one saw that coming.

Just watched the EC cutscene for Synthesis. I was always iffy on synthesis. I'd heard it was nice, but it always seemed a bit too...off-beat. But now I'm all for it. My second favourite ending after Control, purely because EDI's ending narration is so heartwarming.
Also, what did we think of the husk coming to life? I'll bet no one saw that coming.
I was iffy about it until i saw the EC version of the ending and it freaked me out, watching those green eyes marching along, really made me think, maybe I didn't pick the right ending after all.
Like I said, the whole idea of hijacking natural evolution to fit some person's idea of what humanity should be, it even has some real world worries, specifically Ray Kurzweil and the whole trans-humanist stuff, it's exactly the same, and ironically, that stuff has also been tied into the whole NWO mindset.
And I think thats what bothers people, because synthesis allows one person to effectively make a change for the whole galaxy, what's to prevent someone else from doing the same thing, for nafarious purposes?
More to the point, what will the long term effects of synthesis be? Will it be something we will like?
the whole idea of merging with machines is naturally abhorent to people because you talking about changing the very core of their being.
The arguement FOR synthesis talks so much about the strengths of both sides, but what about the weaknesses, the negatives.
Will people lose their inherent "humanity" if you will in favor of this.
We Don't Know, and mainly because there isn't a way TO know because we haven't experianced it in real life so how could be conjecture it in ME.
TBH, Thinking about it hard enough, I could see man possibilities one could manipulate this situation into something that would hijack synthesis and create a galactic equivelent of the NWO or a NGO (New Galactic Order.) to be precise.

I suspect it has something to do with insecurity, people being uncomfortable with thoughts and opinions that differ from their own.
Now someone please agree with me so I can stop doubting myself.

I think it's because people are pissed that Bioware made "the disney happy ending" something that was too touchy feely. The synthesis tech is a Deus Ex Machima all by itself, it's totally unbelievable tech, it kills Shepard, and it preserves the reapers. These 4 things all get different people's dander up for different reasons. So they argue that it must be at least as "dark" as the other endings either to try to tear down Bioware's "vision" or to prop up their ending as "better".

Integration of technology into all organic beings all the way down to the genetic code, all done by a single energy wave, and with 100% chance for success?
Suuure, seems legit.
Plus, add the fact that it's basically forced upon everyone without their agreement and there's even moral problem coming.
Sorry, this ending is wrong no matter how you look at it.

2. Synthesis leaves the reapers alive and uncontrolled. They decide not to kill everything out of the kindness of their hearts.
3. Why does Shep have to melt for this to happen?
4. Evolution. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
5. Destroys ecosystems.
6. Do newly created inorganic things suddenly grow fleshy parts now?
7. Only you alone can walk down the path to true enlightenment.
I could go on.

Galactic wide genetic rape
Not allowing natural evolution. Believe uplifting Krogan was bad.
Similarly hugely extending lifespans(possibly to immortality), yet no sign of removing/reducing fundamentally the birth rate/desire to procreate.
Possibility Reapers are just playing nice, waiting to see if they have to murder everyone if new hybrid creators try and develop in a way they don't like.
Or Catalyst is waiting within the citadel monitoring and ready to take control of the reapers once more if synthesis doesn't work to its satisfaction as it clearly didn't on previous ocassions.
or
Possibility reapers will realise their superior might and decide to come galactic overlords

You have defined very well synthesis with that metaphor:
Synthesis is all unicorns and rainbows
But from a realistic point of view the chances of it happening are stupid and when it happens it's even more stupid in the story (everyone is happy with it? are you ****ing kidding me? brainwash anyone?) and out of the story (it's plain and simply evil)
