Not sure is sb has written this already but I just had the same prob, I re-installed dao for nostalgic reasons a few days ago and all was fine until I launched it after removing physx from my pc. I did that cos I'm using an ati card and thought it just got on my system somehow. Anyway RE-INSTALL PHYSX and RESTART your rig and it will all be fine! go to somewhere like guru 3d and search physx or just go to nvidia to download it! Much quicker than re-installing the game!

For this problem I have found a work around or solution if you will. on Win7 go and type "PhysX" in the search bar opened up by hitting the windows key, find and open where its installed on your computer. (there will be multiple versions, find the file in your 'program files((x86/other))  > NVIDIA Corporation > Physx > common' folder) copy and paste the CONTENTS of the COMMON folder, into the folder with the DAorigins.exe, not the folder its-self. This let me play, and the game works fine.

I tried to use the installer for the drivers but it kept telling me i had updated / better version installed, it just wasn't in the right location and refused to 'update'.

Bought the game from Steam, (<3 steam) and i could play when I bought the game, but now after a few mounths, I had this problem, hope this helps anyone who was having the same issue
