I have been known to cringe once in a while when entering a public lobby seeing the names some users have.

I find anything with "someone the KILLER" is a bad sign. Image IPB

Anyone else find any naming stereotypes?

If it has "sniper" in the gamertag/PSN ID, I know it's probably not going to be a good game.

Hardly. I come across some people with goofball names all the time on XBL. Many times I've seen a 1337 name, and thought the same as you. Only to find that belief proven wrong ingame.

The names have little to no correlation to ingame skill. I've tried to judge by testing out patterns...but failed quite often.

Pot references in XBox tags are a red flag for me, because they usually indicate the player is a teenager with too much time on his hands [EDIT: also, advertising drug use that's still illegal in most jurisdictions is a sign of poor risk awarenes]. I also watch out for people with a lot of case changes, numbers, and punctuation in their tag (e.g., xx!WaK3nB@Ke!xx is right out).

Also ditto the note about people that include "sniper" (or "snipa", or "snipes", or particularly the dreaded "ssnippezz").

When somebody has a sexual euphemism like "Teabag" in their name, they're either the worst player ever or the best player ever.

Uhhhh... yes and no. I too have seen some cringe worthy names simply due to the childish humor people seem to have like 10 year olds giggling at the word "Fornicate".

Not to mention my characters probably feel sorry for anyone naming their Asari something like "c**twaffle." Poor girl. Didn't deserve that in the least. They probably feel grateful I have the decency to try and give them real names.

Given my GT sounds like a Soldier designation(it is, but it's my little secret) I also get asked if it refers to my location as well. (No I don't live in Washington DC.)

Usually if I see something that tries to copy off a well known character (Anything Dragonball Z or from Sonic is a good indicator) I'm prepared to endure the 12 year old screaming profanity in my ear. Anything from my first examples containing some poor attempt at a XXX joke is another indicator that this is a young adult or teenager who is trying to impress me with their humor. I'm impressed alright, impressed they weren't better then the other 12,000 attempts.

And of course you get the ego strokers like those above who mentioned anything with "Killer" or "Sniper" in the name... be prepared for loud bragging followed by more bragging if they top the board or cuss you out because you're above them even through you weren't trying to beat 'em out.

It's a mess out there. The Internet is a very shady place.

Oh, and I've played with four people with, "gangsta" in their gamertag. All four matches were terrible.

Heh, yeah anything of the "sniper" variant is usually a bad sign... once in awhile they actually are boss snipers, but usually they're carrying heavy @s$ weapons on caster classes and doing mostly nothing all game.

420'ers are usually bad players as well. Probably because they're way too high to be playing. (Not that I blame them, I'd love to be high as well)

You cant always judge a book by its cover... but you usually can.

The worst ones are the players with "MLG" in their gamertag/psn

I only started this thread as I was just in a game with a player that had a really offensive name (to me anyway). He played fine but I was fighting the impulse not to revive him every wave!

I cringe every time I see a variation of "xX...........Xx." For some reason my experience always deteriorates when someone with that tag is in the game.

Is it just me, or does "pronoscope" sound like a medical implement used for some dubiously necessary and manifestly unpleasant purpose?

I see it as a head up, I will roll one game with just about anyone.

I have only seen one GT that I found offensive, I simply left before the match started, added them to my avoid list.

I am the same way with the drug thing, I personally dont care if people do it, but it doesnt need to be advertised all over the place.
