Also, I agree and disagree. The rubber ball is fine in that it perfectly fills the roll of a vehicle and gets you to a location faster than if you were walking. It's not fine in that if you give it anything other than smooth hills or mountains the bloody thing bounces around like, well, a very bouncy rubber ball. The terrain was annoying though, I agree with you there.

What do you mean by what they did to the setting?
I only mentioned this because the ME1 forum usually doesn't answer my posts so I inferred that since it is an older game most people have moved on to ME3. I have all three games and am playing them in order. I originally started with ME3 but a lot of people suggested that I start from the beginning so that's hwhat I'm doing and having a lot of fun with it.

The ability to play a role -- the character aspect.
It's not about numbers and rules and rolls. It's a role-playing game, not a roll-playing game.
Now, many people don't get that, and treat them as very complex open-space board-games -- and it's that approach which was first adapted to computer games in those early "RPGs". Many people who've only played something like D&D in that adversarial board-game manner, or who've only been exposed to the term "RPG" as it's misused in the computer gaming industry, believe that "RPGs" are defined by customizing attributes and skills and gear for best effect.
Series like Fallout, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and so on, changed that. You could, to the extent allowable by the medium, define and control who your character was. They brought elements of actual roleplaying games to the computer. In ME1 and ME2, who Shepard was depended on the choices that you, as the player, made. In DA:O, you defined so much about the character.
Player agency was king when it came to the character.
Now, after DA2 and ME3, it appears that Bioware wants to go off into the "interactive cinematic experience" direction, which has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with roleplaying games. Player agency has its heart ripped out on the altar of the the writers' need to indulge in their "art".
Back at the tabletop, in a roleplaying game, the last thing you want is a gamemaster so in love with and bound to his own story, that he has no room for the players to change things and make things happen of their own volition -- the ending they want is the ending you're going to get, no matter what. And yet Bioware has turned into "that guy".
Like that GM, maybe Bioware should just go write a book or make a movie.

I just mentioned that I don't like mini games in any game I play, it's a distraction. But since they put it in there I have to use omni-gel or try to crack it. It's not really THAT bad, just repetitive.
I LIKE the ME franchise. I'm having a great deal of fun with it.

Bioware is clearly just a label slapped on more of the extruded gaming product that EA has been crapping out for years. Remember, EA's most successful franchise is the yearly reselling of the same basic NFL game over and over to the same customers.
Never mind the problem of having to install spyware on your computer just to play the games you already paid for.

Yea the books are good, but don't forget to check out the comics that takes place inbetween each game series. . Not sure if anyone reads up on the comicss as well thought I would chime and say its worthing reading through them though.

Aren't you contradicting yourself here? The mini-game in Mass Effect 1 where you've the rotating concentric rings do the exact same thing. So how is ME2's hacking pedagogical while the ME1's hacking is silly? For me it seems as if you're splitting hairs.Doug M wrote...

To be honest I prefer the mini-games in Mass Effect 1, they're more intellectually stimulating. That's mostly because of Mass Effect 1 having the Bioware classic: Towers of Hanoi, which is present in both KotOR and Mass Effect 1, though sadly missing in ME2&3.
