Eric Fagnan's post about the weekly changes and Geth and Reapers being neck to neck in difficulty has left the worried since they don't seem to understand that the problem with Geth is the CHEAPNESS and FRUSTRATION.

Look, I usually play in PUGs and yes, Reapers can be extremely diffficult if you have a few subpar players in your team. Even though without an organized team I probably only extract against Reapers about 50% of the time, I actually LIKE playing against them.

If a Banshee stabs me in the chest I know it's usually my fault and I should have stayed further away (excepting magnetic grabs ofc), if I get swarmed by a bunch of Brutes I know it's because our DPS wasn't enough, if I get sniped by a Ravager it's because I didn't get cover soon enough.

I may die quite a lot when fighting them, but it never feels cheap or really frustrating, and my skill is actally important in beating them. Thus, they Reapers are enjoyable.

The Geth on the other hand are composed of what we call "fake difficulty", which pretty much negates the player's skill and employs extremely frustrating tactics like frozen Hunters shooting at you, barrages of 3 missiles to the face, massive stunlock from every source, retardedly powerful Turrets which you can't even see sometimes... it just doesn't feel "fair" compared to the other factions, and that is why almost everybody hates playing Geth.

Being a videogame, FUN is the most important thing, and right now, Geth are simply NOT fun.:?

Just my 2c

Yep! Pretty much!

The Geth consist of nothing but a series of cheap kills.

- Geth Hunters and Rocket Troopers ignoring stagger. Good luck, biotics and melee builds!
- Geth Pyros have absurd range and damage, killing all but the bulkiest characters in the blink of an eye.
- GETH. TURRETS.
- Geth Primes in general, with their ability to snipe for heavy damage and chain stagger from almost any range and through even the tiniest of openings.

In fact, enemy projectiles in general are a pain. When an enemy dodges one of our projectiles, it invariably veers harmlessly off course. When we dodge an enemy projectile, most of the time it turns 90 degrees in the air and hits us on the recovery. That Geth Primes can do this through tiny openings and around corners is just overkill.

The only cheap tactic the geth don't employ is sync kills.

Geth are frustrating. Take away their frustration abilities and they're in the middle of Cerberus and the Reapers.

I love this game, MP is a major bonus to me, vast majority of players are good, most enemies play fair, the Geth Rocket trooper really gets to me. Yesterday in silver I was coming up to flank a rocket trooper, he was watching my team mate in cover, my buddy got up to shoot, I had a rocket to the face in seconds and the damn thing wasn't even looking at me........I can handle the Banshee, the Phantom and I do not get along at all but the rocket troopers and hunters, they are in a war all to themselves.

Reapers Gold has always seemed cheap to me, with the Banshees coming in two at a time, yet each one requiring a self-detonating biotic or two players spamming tech powers to kill them before they reach you (let's not even mention how long it takes to kill Banshees with weapons that aren't Claymores).

They're just too durable for their movement patterns and offensive capabilities.

My least favorite thing about the Geth is Hunters being able to fire off perfectly aimed shots when trapped in a Singularity or frozen solid.

I found Reapers to consistently be a lot worse than Geth personally.

Tech classes kick Geth ass.
You can hack basically every enemy when you play against geth.
Energy drain works best when facing Geth.
No instakill/permadeaths when facing geth.
No grenades when facing geth.
Lack of grenades and instakillers make camping strategies against geth much more viable than vs cerberus or reapers.

I don't think the geth are cheap at all. If banshees were replaced by primes, reapers would be easier. If phantoms were replaced by hunters, cerberus would be easier...

Geth, just like all the other enemies in MP are very predictable in their individual actions, so it's just a matter of player skill to see the hunters early enough, not let the pyros get too close, and don't stand so close to primes that they spawn turrets behind you (turrets all fall with a single tech power anyways, so if you keep them in front of you, you wipe them all out with chain overload and instead of attacking you, the prime is busy respawning them). Also, the rocket troopers tend to keep you honest and behind cover.

I agree with everything posted in the OP. Reapers are my favorite faction to play against because they are challenging, balanced, and satisfying to play against. Cerberus can be interesting sometimes depending on the player makeup of the match, but they're usually a boring grind most of the time mainly because of the obsurd amount of health Atlases have.

But the Geth... I usually play U/U, but I'll play a lobby if it has the map and faction picked only if it's NOT Geth. Playing against the Geth is not fun at all because of all the cheap tactics they employ and the blatant linearity of their AI routine. I think instead of balancing Cerberus they should take a long look at the Geth and how they're broken.

Still not fast enough to kill them before they teleport into the middle of your squad unless you've got all four players shooting at the Banshees, which leaves you open to all the Brutes, Ravagers, and Marauders that spawn with them.

The fact that the bulk of the kills from the Geth faction come from them just randomly ignoring the game mechanics, or their obnoxious sentry turrets should tell the whole story. There's nothing fun about dying to a Geth Hunter firing while it's floating in Singularity or locked in Stasis.

Any time you manage to avoid the geth's propensity for cheap tactics reveals the sad truth: They're actually just a pretty weak and boring faction. They cannot be used as a sign of balance when the entire challenge they present comes from random obnoxious and annoying  behaviors and bugs. Part of the reason Firebase White works so well against them is the placement of Geth Turret nodes—from that main counter, all their spawn locations are clearly visible.

They ARE about as hard as Reapers, but not for the right reasons.

Don't forget their vaccuum grip of doom.  That's what really makes them cheap.

Have another +1 for truth!

I'm hoping that the hunter thing is a glitch. It still needs to be fixed, but it can be sort of negated from the "balance" end of the equation.

But between the massive buffs to the Geth faction overall, the balancing of Decoy, the ruination of Sabotage*, the removal of headshots vs. Primes, and adding a 3rd Prime to boss waves, the Geth became a chore somewhere along the line.

I know that the Geth need to compensate for not having instakills or grenades. But rapidfire rockets and stun-lock are not the answer. Grenades punish players for camping, and insta-kills punish players for not running away and/or thinking that magnetism is caused by something other than f***ing miracles. Rapid-rockets and stun-lock punish players for playing against geth on anything besides Firebase White, something that could actually be fixed by either a patch to the Geth A.I. or a Geth-exclusive spawn point behind the camping room.

I know that Bioware can only make structural changes to the game with patches, and that those patches need to be approved by Sony and Microsoft (which also delays PC patches for some reason? Curse you dirty console peasants!), and even then it might take work to give the Geth the same sort of deadly synergy that the reapers enjoy.

But nerfing everything that is effective versus the Geth, or buffing them beyond the point of reason when you cannot nerf it with a balance change (Firebase White) doesn't make the Geth any better. It just makes the player experience worse.

*Seriously, I know Sabotage was ridiculously OP vs Geth, but now the power is really pathetic vs. synthetics. It's actually awesome vs. organics, but a bug prevents you from getting points or XP from backfire damage... Sabotage needs some love!
