Same, OP. I dislike Garrus. He's too much of a bro. He feels like a pet to me.

I almost hated him when I heard Shepard saying "there's no Shepard without Vakarian". Reload!!!!!

Not to mention that speech Shepard is giving to him about Garrus being her only true friend (or something similiar) at the bottle shooting scene. Reload!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And the most annoying of them all was seeing Garrus coming out of the Normandy at the ending. I never even took him anywhere!!!!

I wish there was an option to tell him to stay on Palavan's moon. Cause I can't let him stay on the ship, I feel like I have to talk to him. In fact, the only reason I'm having second thoughts about killing him in the SM on my current playthrough is because Tali needs a boyfriend.

He trusts your judgement, regardless whether it was a Paragon and Renegade one. Why? He is one of the few characters in the series that are able to understand and see from YOUR point of view, as a player, and that is a major plus point.

If I recall, he is the only character that Shepard can trust with the fact that s/he sabotaged the Genophage cure, and IIRC he still supports your decision.

And I find that interesting. Why can't we confide with the other characters? Would Ashley/Kaidan agree with you? Poor Liara will be horrified. Tali will probably cry. I imagine the rest of the other characters will drift away from you if you sabotaged the cure.

Romance wise, he is shy, and people can easily find that cute and adorable, especially since we are so attuned to how "badass" he is.

Plus, he is Brokarian.

Well, the other option isn't much better (storming heaven together or something). Garrus' goodbye is certainly one of the most touching farewell scenes if he's your best friend or love interest...but if he's just an acquaintance, it's better to avoid the whole dialogue.

Flog61: I guess I like him because he isn't defined by an issue. I mean, Thane is all about his illness, Miranda about her perfection complex and her sister or Tali about her "I deserved it, they own it to me" attitude. Don't get me wrong, they are fine, welcomed characters but random chats like these are more natural.

I'm not sure I'm within a target group of your question, though. I am "only" fond of him which can be said about many other NPCs.

Yeah, that's pretty much why I don't want him on my squad. I can't have someone that I don't talk to. So hearing that dialogue (with both of Shepard's answers to him) made me incredibly annoyed. Even more so the fact I can't just walk away...

Well everything about Garrus is subjective like most characters. What I like about him is that I feel like he grows a bit character wise from C-sec agent to Shepard's trainee on Normandy SR-1 to Archangel to Shep's second fire team leader in the Suicide Mission (in my case), I associate the Thanix Cannon used on the Collector's with Garrus' calibrations, and in ME3 he's funnier than usual while also keeping it real. He also feels a bit aristocratic in everything he says and does, the turian has a sense of style I guess.
