I know that sounds weird/perverted but hear me out. Last night I was laying awake in bed unable to sleep and I found myself thinking about RPGs. This train of thought led me to think about a certain option in DA2 near the start of the game. I played through DA2 as a female Hawke and when I was told, by Gamlen if I recall correctly, that my sister and I needed to make money to get into the city my first thought was that he was refering to prostitution. I honestly expected a conversation option to pop and where my character refuses him and punches him in the face for good measure. Of course he was actually talking about choosing between becoming a smuggler or an enforcer.
Anyway, I found myself thinking last night how I'm actually a bit disappointed prostitution wasn't an option, for both male and female Hawke, for getting the gold to get into the city. It could have led to some really interesting conversations with certain characters, such as your mother.

I found myself running through a list of RPGs in my head and realised that while many RPGs will let you have sex with prostitutes I couldn't think of any that actually let you become a prostitute, though I'm sure such games exist.
This got me thinking that one of the things I'd like to see in DA3, if they add origins back to the game (which I really hope they do), is an origin where you play as a prostitute.

This isn't about wanting to see sex scenes or anything, I'd actually be fine if it just had cut to black scenes or no sex scenes at all, though as I've previously mentioned on these forums I've been quite disappointed with the quality of BioWare sex scenes of late and that I'm not a fan of the cut to black in those cases I'm refering more to companion scenes, which I feel should be really special. It's about providing what I think could be a really interesting story and conversations and a chance to explore something that's never really explored in video games. The origin would of course be open to both genders.

So yeah, weird thread. It seemed a good idea when I was in my sleep deprived state last night. Just thought I'd throw it out there and see what other people thought.

hmm this does seem intresting, in a character point of veiw. The interactions one could have further into the story between other characters could be comedic, or awkward, so yeah this would be doing something drastically different from what other developers are doing also but doesn't seem likely

I'd rather play a prostitute than a Seeker. Beyond that, if it works with the plot BioWare has planned, it works for me.

Only if I can play a transgendered dwarven prostitute.

I'd rather play a cheesemonger. If Sergeant Jackrum were available as a companion, that would be very nice as well. I wouldn't say 'no' to Sam Vimes either.

The flight from Lothering establishes the Hawke siblings as badasses. One or two of them served in the army, no less. Gamlen is smart enough to make suggestions that align with their talents.

Beyond that, this would be a terrible idea. Succinctly stated: film, television, and novels often do a ****** poor job of portraying the life of a prostitute whether that depiction is positive or negative. A video game has a snowball's chance in Hell of pulling that off in a way that is not downright insulting at best. BioWare should stick to the adventure stories they are good at.

Yes, i thought that too in the first time playing, it is a suspense...Gamlen look like someone who could sell his own niece to prostitution...human trafficking is a big problem nowadays

Playing a hooker in a game? Yea no thanks. I'm sure they can think of something different for a protagonist.

I'd happily play it but I don't think Bioware has the capability to pull it off well.

I think Bioware could pull it off... so why not.

I want a pirate origin still tho...

You and Bethany are capable fighters. Honestly, you could make the money faster by robbing people.

Anyways, I don't want to waste a lot of energy debating the merits of a "prostitute origin." So, Sten, will do you the honours?

But i think the easiest way to gain money without the risk of being dead at the hands of bandits or apostates is prostitution, so....

For a second I thought this was a troll thread and I was about to go off. But thankfully, it's not. So thank you. And as far as your suggestion goes I guess I wouldn't mind. I mean the more choices the better......I guess. I probably wouldn't do it though.

Wow people are getting creative in their boredness. A few more weeks and I totally expect a resurgence in griffon requests.

It has some limited charm but if they DO make new Origins I'd prefer they actually had something to do with the plot, yah know? Though I suppose there are ways to tie a prostitute in... hmmmmm... maybe not a prostitute exactly, but like a bardy/seductress assassin! Totally more interesting.

RPGs have a tiresome obsession with prostitution.

Fallout 2 lets you be a porn star. Even comes with a perk.

I would agree with this if these were the only two choices. Really tho...I prefer neither.

I have nothing against prostitute characters , some are charming and fierce .
But playing a prostitude pc , I'd rather not.
It would make me pretty uncomfortable .I can help but think prostitution is a really sad thing , so that would totally depressed me on some level.

That statement tells me how little you know of the sex trade.

Banditry would still be faster and only slightly more dangerous.
