The entire post cracked me up, but this gif. specifically.

I would actually be okay with this as an origin if it were handled tastefully enough.  I think that's the issue though, and it seems most people who might be for that kind of origin don't think it can be achieved in a video game.

It might work if it were only alluded to obscurely?  Like, perhaps your origin has you beginning as a Minstrel in Orlais, and sex is part of your profession much in the same way it was alluded to with Leliana using her sexuality to gain information when it was necessary?  You also had Zevran's story in that he was born in a brothel to a prostitute, later sold to the Antivan Crows, and also resorted to using his sexuality while on certain assignments.  It could work if the entire origin did not revolve around prostitution specificly.  I could see a human rogue origin working that angle as a Minstrel.  But again, it's all a matter of tact and taste.

A video game has a snowball's chance in Hell of pulling that off in a way that is not downright insulting at best.

Insulting to whom, exactly?

Any commentary on any kind of lifestyle choice is going to be insulting to somebody for some reason, but it's kind of silly to act like it's inherent in a particular subject matter.  If it's insulting to actual prostitutes that's one thing, but I have no interest whatsoever in people who get randomly insulted on other people's behalf.

In the Dwarf Commoner Origin you could (sort of) act as assistant pimp for your sister.  I don't see why it'd be that much more risque to have the option to become a prostitute yourself in a future game, although perhaps not as an entire origin, maybe more as an optional or series of optional side quests.  It was done in Arcanum and was fairly tasteful although admittedly somewhat squirm-inducing because the dialog was comical in a really horrible way.

Lifestyle choice ?....you clearly have no idea  on the reality of most prostitution ,its causes  and its effects .

Anyway, while prostitution is definitely part of the lore, I think featuring a hooker protagonist would lean dangerously close to glamorizing it as a profession. Which, with the human sex trafficing problem our world is dealing with today, would be in seriously poor taste. Bioware's other option would be to devote a good chunk of the character development toward said protag emotionally and psychologically recovering from the trauma of that kind of life. And is that really the game we want to play?

I might want to play that assuming it would be done well but, overall, you're right. In order for this to work, a game should focus on prostitution as a major theme and I'm not sure if this is fitting for Dragon Age. If Bioware isn't ready to really make it work, I say scratch the idea.

However, I would like prostitution to be handled with more depth and thought in the game. Through a companion character perhaps? I don't mind the comedy but brothels shouldn't always be just funny.

I would definitely enjoy a serious roleplaying take on GTA style setting where you'd actually have to deal with the shadow side of life without glorification, prostitution included. Not sure how many others would be ready to pay for something that focuses on social issues but it could be an interesting indie game project.

sure, why not. It's better than the multiplayer idea.
