If they let Thane live, he will have approximately 0 interesting scenes in ME3, since his death scene is the only one that's even good (I only talk to him earlier to make sure he's there during the coup). Not a shot at him, just saying he has little to no presence in the game.
Also, while I understand complaining about his actual screen time being lacking, he had to die. He was dying from an incurable disease. It's the first thing he tells you when you meet him. His entire character arc is based around it and his search for redemption. It's not like rocks just fall on him out of nowhere.
What if they changed Thane's death?
