Let's assume briefly that while the Catalyst and the Reapers were mad, their problem was real. There was a conflict between synthetics and organics that threatened extinction for organics.
One option are to destroy synthetics, but they warn us that the problem is still there and we are ultimately dooming ourselves. New synthetics will arise. They will know how we threw the Geth and other AIs under the bus. There will be little trust. Confrontation may be inevitable. And how much will the organic species trust one another, when they know we will sacrifice any of them for victory. Sure, we're alive. But ultimately, this may doom organic life in the galaxy forever.
Synthesis clearly makes the problem go away, by essentially surrending ourselves to the same fate as the Reapers.
Control does control the problem but risks saddling the galaxy with a meglomaniacly god. It may be the best solution in that organic life survives and there is peace. But long term, it could be a dark fate.
But, perhaps, refusal is the best possible solution. The next cycles will see how organics and synthetics fought together. They will see how organics risked everything rather than throw the synthetics under the bus. This could lead to a new trust and understanding between organics and synthetics. Our example could lead to a galaxy that is both free and one that can evolve to the next level without facing AI armageddon.
Refusal: the Ultimate Solution?
