This. Nothing says a woman (or a man) needs to be totally professional or totally beautiful ALL the time. There's a time and place for everything.

By "action oriented" I meant naughty...Jeez, do I have to spell it out?Bocks wrote...

I like the ME3 Ash. More action oriented.
You do realise that's completely wrong, right? Long hair would get in the way of aiming and is generally why most soldiers have their heads shaved.

Hair up. We already have Miri for the other option.

I like howJack's face matched the somewhat wounded personality that initially lay behind her brutal philosophy.Haargel wrote...

Jack has the most beautifull face. I just don't like tattoo's on a girl

I preferred her with the bun. She was an original character in the sense that she wasn't a mega feminine romance. In ME2 Ashley jumps ship (literally) and the more tomboyish choice is Jack. In ME3, two things are apparently true: A) This galaxy isn't big enough for two romancable tomboys-- Jack is kept (sort of), and Ashley's kicked out of the clan of rage-filled awesomeness; andGoing further up the chain of command must mean that instead of "calming down", so to speak, she (Ashley) "revs up" her appearance for some reason. While I don't want to get too stereotypical, I do find that as you get older, most people flaunt a little bit less of themselves (i.e. less makeup, less low-cuts) as it is more professional.
The fact of the matter is that, for Ashley's presented character in ME1, the change is somewhat unrealistic.
But maybe that's just my nit-picking because I never got to romance her with femshep.

My perspective on ash changing from me1 to me3 is this, and this comes from my perspective of being in the army and then almsot dieing (think about all the dangerous **** ash has seen just in the games and probaly out of as well) crazy **** happens and perspective on life changes.
She was probaly so dedicated to her carreer when she was younger and in the span of a couple of years her perspective changed a bit and she wanted to live life a little more and became a bit more introspective as well. she let her hair down and yes, became more quiet. its actualy similar to me. I was a high speed soldier once upon a time, i almost died, I started growing my hair out more (within regs of course) i went from high and tight to low fade, bought a motorcycle (ducati), and my character did indeed change. I put more thoughts into my emotional wants rather than logic and became more introspective.
ash is one of my favorite characters because she is, well human (talking character not species) and relatable to me. I realy never felt she was ruined in any way. with all the amazing characters in the sereis, and as much as i love the other characters, and even though ash is not my number 1 favorite (its garrus), I think she is the easiest to relate too. there's nothing extaordinary about her. she's just a girl with a normal family a normal background who was thrust into extraordinary circumstances.
My Vote: Hair Down and enjoying of life what she can because there is no gaurentee of tommorow.

I hated the shift in art direction between ME1 and ME2 as well... don't care about people's justifications for the catsuit armor or the shirtless crazy chicks; the action-flicky/anime style-ups of the female characters since ME2 (minus Benezia because she was, you know, eccentric) totally crapped on the cool, militaristic sci-fi look that I loved in ME1.

I preferred Ash with her hair in a bun, like in ME1 and ME2. I think it fits her character better.
That said, I'm good with her redesign for the most part, but I wish it were possible to have her put her hair in a bun. Even if she has it down on the Normandy, at least one of her outfits (perhaps the blue armour) should give Ash her ME1/ME2 hairstyle.
