I'll complain about both, thank you. As well as Samara and EDI.MrDavid wrote...
You know, if you wanna complain about oversexualization of a female character...well Miranda and her ass are standing by.

I preferred her with the bun. She was an original character in the sense that she wasn't a mega feminine romance. In ME2 Ashley jumps ship (literally) and the more tomboyish choice is Jack. In ME3, two things are apparently true: A) This galaxy isn't big enough for two romancable tomboys-- Jack is kept (sort of), and Ashley's kicked out of the clan of rage-filled awesomeness; andGoing further up the chain of command must mean that instead of "calming down", so to speak, she (Ashley) "revs up" her appearance for some reason. While I don't want to get too stereotypical, I do find that as you get older, most people flaunt a little bit less of themselves (i.e. less makeup, less low-cuts) as it is more professional.
The fact of the matter is that, for Ashley's presented character in ME1, the change is somewhat unrealistic.
But maybe that's just my nit-picking because I never got to romance her with femshep.
My perspective on ash changing from me1 to me3 is this, and this comes from my perspective of being in the army and then almsot dieing (think about all the dangerous **** ash has seen just in the games and probaly out of as well) crazy **** happens and perspective on life changes.
She was probaly so dedicated to her carreer when she was younger and in the span of a couple of years her perspective changed a bit and she wanted to live life a little more and became a bit more introspective as well. she let her hair down and yes, became more quiet. its actualy similar to me. I was a high speed soldier once upon a time, i almost died, I started growing my hair out more (within regs of course) i went from high and tight to low fade, bought a motorcycle (ducati), and my character did indeed change. I put more thoughts into my emotional wants rather than logic and became more introspective.
ash is one of my favorite characters because she is, well human (talking character not species) and relatable to me. I realy never felt she was ruined in any way. with all the amazing characters in the sereis, and as much as i love the other characters, and even though ash is not my number 1 favorite (its garrus), I think she is the easiest to relate too. there's nothing extaordinary about her. she's just a girl with a normal family a normal background who was thrust into extraordinary circumstances.
My Vote: Hair Down and enjoying of life what she can because there is no gaurentee of tommorow.
Thank you for the very personal story. I love your hints for Ash's new look.
If she hadn't been wearing high heels and a blue glowing catsuit while all the rest are wearing uniforms, I would have gladly settled for that. Unfortunately, I think they just wanted her to look sexier.
I saved Kaidan, but its was good to have such a female character in ME1.
Oh, I know they just wanted to make her sexier, but to me it still fits character all things considered.
I would have to agree that her hair in a bun during combat and down elsewhere would make more sense but thats it, doesnt make or break anything.

I don't really care.
Then why did you decide to post?
I absolutely hate Ash's ME3 look. I don't understand why bioware would wait until the 3rd game to makeover characters.

I also don't see it as much of an issue for combat, since you can equip Ashley in armor that has a helmet. Also, women in the military do not wear their hair in a bun all the time. They only do so while in uniform and on duty. Off duty they let their hair down.

Except that she wasn't a Spectre at the beginning of the game when she's reintroduced with her new "look", so that explanation/excuse as to why she dresses the way she does and wears her hair so long doesn't make any sense.B1ood Dr4g0n wrote...
I think hair down suits her now she's a spectre and it shows shes changed with her promotion and everything.

There isn't anything unusual about Ashley having her hair down.
Women in the military don't wear their hair in a bun 24/7. When off duty they usually let it down, like most other women. Ashley's 'uniform' is a little odd however, in that you don't see any other Alliance personnel wearing that. IMO they should have just had Ashley wear utilities when not in combat armor, like Traynor.

And yes, she really needed a uniform more like Traynor's

So we never see Ashley on-duty (even when she's an active combatant in Shepard's squad)?
If they can only afford to give Ashley one hairstyle, better for it to make sense in BOTH her on-duty and off-duty scenes rather than make it look like something only an off-duty service woman would wear. Amirite?
No, of course not; sexualization is Bioware's game now.

That is easily remedied by always having Ashley wear armor and a helmet on missions. The only time you'll see Ashley with her hair down is while hanging out in the Normandy's lounge, or while on liberty on the Citadel. In both situations, her hair being down makes sense.

The pre-release fan explanations that her new style had something to do with her being a spectre were clearly wrong, she's just a regular member of the Alliance whom somebody allowed to wear a selfmade fantasy-uniform, for whatever reason. I'm also 90+% sure her -admittedly cool- armor was added because of the massive fan backlash against her 'battle uniform'.
Her whole makeover has nothing to do with character development or Ash 'maturing', it was just done by the design team to make her 'moar sexy'. They failed horribly, as far as I'm concerned.

I strongly dislike Ash's new appearance in ME3. Her face somehow looks... wrong, her hair is highly impractical and doesn't harmonize with her face, and her standard outfit is just plain ridiculous.

I hope she will look something like this in an alternate appearance pack. It's closer to the Ash from ME1 and 2 while still showing her development into a spectre. I barely recognize Ash in ME3.

Same here. I actually didn't recognize her on the first ME3 pictures we got. One of the few things I would be inclined to pay money for atm (besides story DLC that affects the endings) would be an Appearance Pack that 'fixes' her default outfit and her face.

Now she's Miranda's substitute. She doesn't look like a Soldier at all, completely destroying her character.
Left Kaiden on Virmire to die a Hero, and shot the bimbo to make her die for being a traitor.

This. Ashley became a boring archetype in ME3.Reikilea wrote...
I definitely prefer her with hair up and minus boob job. I loved her tomboyish, but still beautiful appearance in the first game.
In Me3 she is just meh. Miranda clone or something.
