Thats because its just too absurd. Your in a last ditch attempt to charge the beam and you and your squad stop so they can be brought to safety?!

Come on, its funny if you really think about it.

Edit: I cant even hate it because I cant take it seriously enough.

Fun fact: Evacs happen all the time during an active battlefield. The evac during the beam is not absurd at all.

No im sorry but its completely and utterly absurd, theres no getting around it.

Your in a last ditch attempt charge for a beam, you need just 1 person to get there to end an impossible war and you and your squad STOP in the middle of the charge to evacuate your squad.

Perhaps you did not understand just how desperate the charge situation was?

So every evac in our history in war, including very succesful ones(like the Normandy) that did not hurt a side from winining a battle or war is absurd? Know your history before you start saying something about warfare is absurd please.

This isn't as unrealistic as some make it out to be.

Even during the amphibious assaults on places like Normandy, Tarawa, or Iwo Jima during the Second World War, there were landing craft and amtracs evacuating the more seriously wounded while the beach head was still very much contested and under fire. So the evac itself isn't a problem.

The difference of course is that these landing craft and amtracs were usually under fire as well, unlike the Normandy. But there are circumstances in the game to explain why the Normandy does not come under fire. Harbinger was probably preoccupied with the large numbers of dismounted infantry, gunships, and tanks that were close to the beam. As the Citadel was not garrisoned with Reaper troops, any one of these people could have potentially foiled the Reapers plans. The Normandy on the hand, was simply evacuating wounded and not directly aiding the push for the beam. It was simply not a priority target at that time. As noted by one of the posters above me, Harbinger is still firing during that sequence. You can hear it in the background. He just isn't firing at the Normandy.

Think of it as a gamer: Lets say you are playing as Harbinger during that sequence, and you've got all these troops and tanks and gunships rushing the beam. If even one makes it to the beam you lose the game. They are coming at the beam almost faster than you can fire, and you've almost got too many targets to take care of. You are getting twitchy and have to button mash to just to get them all. In the middle of that are you going to run the risk of shifting your fire from them to the Normandy in the background, which is playing no role in the beam rush?

A voice of reason who doesn't bash the endings?!?! BLASPHEMY!!!!!

That's not a reason, that is lies.

There is 1 run down and 1 path, Harbinger was capable of firing multiple shots at a time with great power killing loads of troops instantly.
The Normandy flies by and lands on the battlefield.

It reminds me of games like Call of duty.
Do you shoot the chopper dropping the troops or do you shoot the troops? I think we all know the answer.

you know back in the day when he-man used to take five minutes transform and the bad guys stood watching? Or how Voltron would take ten minutes to form and the bad robot would hold fire and watch in awe? it's kind of like that. An unspoken rule between good guys and bad guys, handed down through generations of this ultimate struggle. They may be evil but they are not above common courtesy. Just accept it and move on.

The Normandy wouldn't fit in the transport beem to the citadel, the 'ants' could, and that was what Harbinger didn't want.  He knew he'd get his chance to blow the Normandy up later (assuming victory on earth).

I’m more confused about the Normandy travelling there from space in about three seconds.

Seriously, people were angry before that our squad teleported to the Normandy. Now instead we have the Normandy teleporting to us. Nice fix there Bioware.

Prevent people from getting away?

A heavy vehicle lands in the battlefield, Harbinger see's it.
There is no way in hell anyone thinking logically is going say "oh they're just coming to help people get away, it's not like their whole future will be based on if they make it down here or not, I mean really who would drop off more people to make the run down here?"

If Normandy is so stealthy and fast, that it can go in and out of Reaper controlled space, and pick up people, why did Shepard choose to go on foot in the first place?? I mean, if u are able to extarct people from active battle in front of a Reaper who will vapourize anything and everything that moves with his giant laser, surely u could have used same Normandy to just jump to that point. Right?? Image IPB

Let me elaborate the question

X-------------------------------Y-------Z

Lets say X is Allaince camp. And Z is the Beam. Y is the location where u start running towards the beam. Clearly,  Since Normandy can go easily to Y location, why did we not use it in first place. Why Shepard went from X to Y on foot? That kid destroyes couldn't do anything of Normandy if Harby culdn't do anything. Right?

Well what would you have done? Keep throwing the little resources you have in a no-win situation until you loss them all or stop, save what you can, rethink your strategy, and try something else later? The Normandy wasn't shot at by Harbinger because it wasn't a threat.

So that's why the EC added those other fighter planes flying overhead being shot down by Harbinger also?

I think your working hard to completely ignore what makes it so absurd.

Let me explain:

1 person needs to get to the beam, hundreds could die, even thousands but if 1 person can get to the beam then the war can end. Your caught in a desperate charge with a group of people getting killed off like nothing just so you can achieve this.

You stop in the middle of this charge to let people run away.

You know Shepard will reach the beam regardless so you can say it does not matter. But realistically this would just not happen. Why would Shepard call an evac at all considering the situation? Its a last ditch attempt to save the galaxy under terrible odds.

I dont even care that Harby didnt shoot down the normandy, that does not bother me. Its the fact that an evac would be called under the circumstances at all that I find absurd. You cant justify lowering the odds of a mission under these circumstances as anything but a bad decision.

Everything should have been focused on the beam, NOT on running away to safety.

Nope.. Tell that to the reapers who wont let me scan the Star systems..
Anyway, IFF wont help Normandy since it wont make it invisible to Harby.. He stil can do a visual sweep of the area and see Normandy..
Also, if IFF was all we needed, every Alliance frigate would have been equipped with it. Also, Crucible will have biggest IFF possible!!

Shepard spend the entire series:
- Supporting his team
- Believing he can get it done, even with crazy odds.

Why can't he believe he can his injured squadmate AND still make the beem?  As far as I'm concerned, that's in character.

So why didn't the geth drop ship blast Shepard to bits when she was climbing the Citadel tower? Why did the Collectors not launch all their ships when the Normandy was near the base(we know their is more then one ship) Why where their only three drones chasing Shepard at the end of ME2. I can go on and on, but of course you and others will ignore it.

The way I see it is, it is one of those non sensical cheesy Hollywood cut scenes that are there just to bring emotions from the players, and not the logical nitpicking..

The original got it right, everyone should have charged the beam without stopping. But since they screwed up the squadmates continuity with that final scene showing your ground crew in the normandy bioware forced themselves into a corner in which this was the only way out.

And yes you MUST throw everything you have at the plan to get 1 person through the beam, because thats the only way to end the war. You went into this fight knowing there would be heavy losses and if it is not stopped then you just lose period.

Right. If the Normandy is that fast... why not have it land a squad or two at the beam's base when the AA Reaper/Gun goes down?

That is a fail argument.

Im sorry.  Its an ALL OR NOTHING charge for the future of the entire GALAXY.  And you take 5 so you can evac some wounded.  Im sorry,  But if I was fighting against the possible extinction of every advanced civilisation.  And you were running with me.  And you got hit.  I would leave you behind and keep on running.  And under those same circumstances - I hope you would have done the same.  Hell you will take 5 mins out to evac your buddies - while other people are running into lasers either being wounded/oblitereated and you wont stop for them either.

When the Normandy stopped.  The soldiers went to the ramp and stood guard.  They should have ran on or something.

The entire scene was silly.

This was a war for the future of our very survival.  Not any other war that you or anyone else (cept javik) had ever experienced.

So why not send his squad back in the suicide mission when they were in danger? or Ilos? Obviously Shepard is not willing to risk his crews lives anymore to end a galactic war.

A HUGE enemy war asset, easily visually recognizable, flys in and lands at the base of the beam... Why would you take the chance that it was only landing to pick people up?

Harbinger wouldn't have any idea of the Normandy's intentions... just that a powerful enemy has just shown up near the Beam... That should equal instant cannonfodder.
