The Refusal choice isn’t a choice at all. It’s the cinematic that should happen if you get Critical Mission Failure.

Actively picking Refuse is a romanticization of what in reality is a horrific existence of nothing but pain, grief, and death. Only a true monster would choose it.

If you do not wish to submit to the whims of the Catalyst, your only choice is to blow up the power diverter it has employed to prevent the Crucible from firing in its default mode in order to present you with its two options: Synthesis, or Control.

Choose right.

She's on to something. She's trying to bait us into a trap. I can sense it, its strong in the OP.

Whatever she's up to, don't fall for it.

I'm a Refuser, and I appreciate this line of thought, OP. I just hate the arbitrary penalty of 'woops Geth dead now lol' because I dare to actually kill the Reapers. I refuse to partake in that.

It makes for an interesting 'what if', but who would knowingly cause the cycle all over again(outside of role-playing)? Because of how BioWare did this, any choice is essentially either bow down to starchild's laid out plans, or anger him and cause complete annihilation.

I Choo-Choo-Choose Destroy.

I find it hilarious that the Catalyst even gave me the option to blow him and the Reapers up.

Because that's totally a scenario politicians go through on a day to day basis. Picking explosion colors from literal deus ex machinas.

no, Politicians have to make tough choices, knowing that no matter what they decide, someone, somewhere is going to get hurt by it.

If all Politicians just stopped doing there job because they did not want to harm a single portion of their nation, the world would immediately fall into Chaos

no matter what decision you make IRL someone will get hurt, and not making a decision because you do not want anyone to get hurt results in everyone getting hurt.

In this sense the ME3 ending is quite reflective of the real world

That's actually false in Control gets no one hurt.

Just side note, how can you "truly reject" something by accepting it? :)

Anyway, like someone said in this thread, there are many topics about this theme, there is no need to create another again.

It's not a sacrifice, its genocide to ensure you win a war. If I'm going to win, its on my terms, not the catalyst.

That's not what refusal is. At all. People keep misconstruing it as Shepard choosing it out of the desire to not hurt anyone. It's actually Shepard saying, "Yeah, no, I'm not doing things your way; I'll find my own way." It just happens to result in him losing.

But if you refuse and the next cycle triggers synthesis, then your sacrifice was pointless.

Why even split the Crucible into three colour coded areas where one area has a touchy control merge thingy, a beam which burns you, and a tube is beyond me.

Why not just a ramp to a control console that allows Shepard to press a button. Why all the DRAMATIC ****?!?!?

You cannot compare budget reports and international diplomacy with having one man being forced in the span of five minutes to choose the future of all life that will ever be in our galaxy. You cannot compare taking funding away from one sector of our economy with the genocide of an entire race, the continuation of abominations millions of years old, or the complete and utter rewriting of all life that currently does and will ever live.
