Just finished the extended cut DLC (Aus PS3 player) and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would originally.
I liked the added scene pre-beam to see my crew get to safety and I also liked the extra cutscene here and there to clarify a few things.
The starchilds reasoning and explanations were good enough and made the ending itself, the reapers and the options presented make a lot more sense.
To start with I accidentaly/deliberately shot starchild like any sane person would do, although this time it backfired and the refuse ending was unleashed upon me. I did like it though and I was rather impressed, seeing this cycle fall but future species succeding and prospering based on our story was great and ending I had expected to see from the start.
I restarted the mission and next up I chose Synthesis, the way the catalyst explained it made it seem logical, to be able to integrate with the synthetics and cease any future conflict seemed like the right choice without the uncertaintly of control and without the sacrifices presented in destroy.
And I was not dissapointed, synthesis was just beautiful, both synthetics and organics were together in harmony, synthetics were alive and civilization is at the pinnacle of evolution where socitey can rebuild and prosper like never before. The epilouge by EDI was very touching with some great emotion provoking shots, although I would have liked a more detailed epilogue going into depth of the future of each race the current one is great.
This ending has revived mass effect for me, and although its not perfect and there is many inconsistencies and plotholes it's still very good, now if only they could make our decisions from the last two games have an impact (dlc perhaps?)

I find Synthesis to be the most morally repugnant of all the choices. Totally contrary to the earlier themes of ME. (Diversity is what makes the universe amazing and wonderful)
But...meh...your choice doesn't really affect my Shepard at all.
(and it *is* a pretty green color - but it really needs some unicorns
