Just peruse that for a while OP.

TLDR version: Synthesis does nothing to stop conflict unless it completely rewrites the motivations, thoughts, and personalities of individuals. If it does so, it's tantamount to eugenics or multi-species genocide applied to every sentient species in the galaxy, without any acknowledgement of their wishes, so its been compared to rape as well.

I like adding this note:
We see synthesis applied to plants and non-sentient life as well. So is it considered conflict for a predator, lets say a varren, to still want to eat a prey animal, let's say a pyjak? If yes, then everything higher on the food chain than herbivores starves to death. If no, then why on earth would it do anything to stop any of the reasons humans conflict with each other?

I suggest you read my Synthesis thread (link in my sig) to find out why Synthesis (a) is a solution to the problem, (B) doesn't have any adverse effects on non-sentient life even though it does change it, © doesn't need to brainwash anyone. That's just some people's crazy theories who can't accept that Synthesis has a good outcome and would do everything to make it appear as bad as possible.

@kamfrenchie:
I don't see Synthesis as an utopia. Utopias are stagnant, and as by EDI the post-Synthesis civilization isn't that. There will, of course be conflicts, but I don't usually like to discuss them because the anti-Synthesis fanatics will inevitably blow those conflicts out of proportion to show how bad it all is. It is outright impossible to discuss a nuanced scenario here.

SYnthesis is just too good to be true, and seem to have no drawback, I blame bad writing for the fact that there is no pparent drawback to it.

And if you go with the idea that people are still more or less the same than before, it makes no sense that synthesis would prevent war or even brin anythingto the table.

War are mainly caused by economic reason, or sometimes hatred.

Aside from that, it lets the reapers live, which is unacceptable. That's why I can see why people would call it brainwashing. any people wuld refuse to live with beings that slaughtered their compatriots, friends and loved ones.

It's still very reminiscent  of the master in fallout 1

Sadly it looks like this thread is experiencing the same looping frequency of debate. Moralistic philosophy, downright hate posts (delightfully irrational) And even some random picspam.

A real shame.

Unless you prefer to have all debates about the relative merit of one choice over the other banned, I don't see how you could possibly debate this in a meaningful way except in terms of morality? That's not to say that I strongly dislike it when people are overly dismissive or rude to each other.

Oh perhaps I didn't explain it correctly. What I meant to say is that the debate is looping over the same points endlessly, like every ending debate thread so far. Kinda why i'm taking a break, as I said. :P

Oh look Godwin.

Synthesis blows. I can say that without resorting to OMG HITLER!

Seriously most nonsensical crap in the entire series.

Synthesis is pure evil. A veneer of smiles and happiness to cover the rot within.
It truly disgusts me.

At best it's a violation of every being on a molecular level without their consent.

At worst it's the flood from Halo.

Synthesis is the rainbows and happiness ending for everyone (absolutely everyone, including reapers, husks, and dead people who live on as VIs). Many people find that utterly unbelievable so they either:
a. make fun of synthesis
b. demonize it
c. write it off as silly

Which of those you decide to do entirely depends upon your own personality and life experiences.

The sad thing is that they could have made Synthesis much more plausible and at the same time far less abhorrent by simply limiting it to Shepard fusing with Catalyst, and then imply that this new being can share this technology with anyone who wants. Then again, that would just make the ripoff from Deus Ex too blatant, I guess.

This is true. Since the weather related layoff from hay production, this is one of my forms of entertainment.

god why are people so against a happy ending I've played ME for years through all 3 games doing every side mission and everything else there is to do, your dame right I want a happy ending I did not go through all that just to be completely depressed at the end (which I was until EC) moan the rainbows!

besides synthesis is the only real way to make any sort of lasting change in the galaxy

destroy: future generations will just create more synthetics and the whole mess starts again.
refuse:same as above
control: its iffy the history of sci fi is not on the AI sheps side it may start of doing good but more than likely it will all go ****** up at some point and its time to fight reaper shepard

so again moan the rainbows!  :innocent:

Yeah, it's just that some narrow-minded reactionaries don't want that. Lasting change I mean. Synthesis isn't just a good ending. All are that in their own way. It's the only really interesting ending where things go off in exotic directions.
