The synthesis ending had aesthetic qualities... I cried my eyes out in my reaction vid. It still has it's problems but I thought this ending had the most catharsis.

I guarantee you that those of us who like synthesis wouldn't have to resort to such tactics if the ending (and us) weren't under constant assault from more than half of the forum.  I'd go so far as to say that 80% of the forum think that it's cool to arbitrarily hate on synthesis over the other endings, and if you do a forum search on the word "synthesis" you come up with a 3 or 4 to 1 ratio of hatred threads over threads like this one in support of it.  It's pretty ridiculous.  I can't speak for Ieldra2, but I think most of us just get tired of being attacked on a constant basis, and we get frayed nerves.  Seriously, people will pop into threads and simply make some trollish argument attacking synthesis, and then leave.  Even if the thread has nothing to do with synthesis.  Compare that to the supporters, who have a difficult enough time just keeping their own threads from devolving before their eyes, and tell me who's "proselytizing."  You have to actively try to convert people for that to apply (kinda like those hate-spammers), instead of simply asking to be treated with respect.

Yeah, I actually was getting so irritated with the forum I haven't been on in days. I can't even post something in defense without someone posting "SPACE MAGIC!!".

It's really hard to have a rational discussion on here without someone jumping down my throat. That's why I'd rather just stay away.

I have a few issues with the new synthesis.

Edi is 'alive' after the synthesis beam? Does that mean that Edi and the Geth were not alive or could not become alive before?

I can accept that everyone maintains their individuality but why is everyone so damn happy? if folks are happy all the time then happiness itself ceases to exist.

The husks are now sentient... The look on the that first husks face post synthesis says it all.

I kind of resent the implication that synthetics and organics could not evolve this understanding organically and instead must have it done for them.

Definitely not for me

Indeed.  None of the endings leave you with clean hands.

And that's what I love about the endings. Each one has its benefits and cost. What option you take depemds on you/your Shepard. My Paragon Shepard took control because she was unwilling to make such a big decision yet unwilling to let the geth die. My renegade Shepard pulled the trigger without a second thought and destroyed the Geth, while my paragade Shepard jumped at the beama :P I'd take such options over any 100% perfect solution.

I think the endings as clarified in the EC are at least thought-provoking rather than rage-inducing. So that's a plus. And you can see that the threads have largely changed from hating on bioware to hating on particular ending choices, so I'm guessing they achieved their goal with the EC in that sense.

Synthesis is an odd, far-out scifi kind of solution. My understanding of it starts from the idea in human nature that we form these clans and unite against whatever is "other". If that is an inherent feature of races that eventually form societies and become starfaring civilizations, then we can assume that most or all races share it to a degree. So Humans compete with Turians and Asari for resources, power, etc. Organics can unite against synthetics and oppose the Geth. Then the Geth unite with organics to oppose the Reapers. So in Sythesis if all creatures become more alike and share a certain core essence then it might avoid future full-scale conflict. But overall I still find it a little too far-fetched to completely embrace it.

None of the endings are great, but Synthesis is as worthy, thought-provoking ending sitting next to the rest. I struggled mightily with what choice to make for my paragon shepard and synthesis is definitely in the mix.

The thing I find most interesting about it is that it requires the player to completely erase Shepard to achieve this ascension. Control lets Shepard's consciousness live on, but no longer interact with the world, and Destroy (with sufficient EMS, obviously) allows Shepard to live out his / her life in theory. I wonder to what extent this plays into people's choices.

Oh, and OP, I'm glad you found an ending you enjoyed.
