Yea, just completed extended cut for first time. Won't say fixed the ending, but made it much more acceptable. My problem is the ending segment with an N7 soldier taking in a breath on a pile of rubble. The soldier is presumed Shepard. So why keep that segment? It just gives me hope but nothing ever came out of it in the end. Does Shepard live or die?! Did Shepard break free of indoctrination?! Bioware please explain for I am still confused.

I was also pissed that Bioware didn't expand the breath scene at all, just leaves it open for MOAR SPECULATIONS

Exactly my thoughts. Why don they jus freakin conclude mass effect. That is not "ART" it is a paradox.

Probably because it was easiest. There's very little difference between an epilogue where Shepard survives and one where Shepard dies.

It's dumb, and the promise that the extended cut would make it clear was obviously BS, but what can you do.

I thought it was the good kind of speculation. Believe whatever you want it to be. There wont be an extended extended cut. Why do you need Bioware to hold your hand?

For the indoctrination theory perhaps? I have no idea, it was rather harebrained. I'm still on the fence for the IT idea but I do agree with the rubble argument. It didn't look like anything from the citadel... So if Shepard is back on earth how did he/she get there? Plot hole? Well it's likely.

I have the feeling Bioware wanted to get rid of the Shepard lives scene or change it drastically however something stopped them... Time, resource constraints... Well I guess we'll never know.

Or it could be for post-ending dlc.

Because your Shep's future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one.

It's not presumed. BioWare confirmed it. On this website.

The amount of speculations included in the game is a ****ing joke. You are expected to speculate almost everything after the battle, like the characters, Shepard and your LI.

Its crazy. Most people don't like to have to speculate at all or have to witness any form of cliffhanger. But for some reason they decided to end the trilogy that way, to most peoples ( like me) dissapointment.

Maybe cuz I got the ending cut to end the game for me. Not to end up with even more speculation. This isn't inception.

From MY understanding, two things:

1.  The title of the Soldier Breath scene is in fact "Shepard Lives".  Datamining and other methods have confirmed this, or so I'm led to believe.

2.  With so many different Shepards and so many different possibilities (Male/Female, Romanced/not Romanced, etc), there is NO WAY in h*** that Bioware would have gotten it right, Since Shepard belongs as much to the player as to Bioware.  So therefore, a lack of anything concrete about Shepard post breath scene is Bioware telling US to come up with the rest.

For me:  Femshep survived the Destroy ending.  Eventually recovering from injuries, she married Kaidan, and had a total of four children by him, the first born precisiely nine months to the DAY of the end of the Reaper War (which means that the romance scene just before the assault on Chronos Station had more significance than she thought).  She also had PSTD, which dropped her from the Military.  She died on April 11, 2200.

Essentially this. They got lazy, and didn't want to bother showing any more.

I kind of like how they ended destroy. They heavily imply that Shep survives and his crew goes to find him (if you have decent EMS). They wouldn't have implied anything if they didn't intend on having him survive. I still would have loved to see an actual reunion (Shep is pulled from the rubble by Tali, as From The Wreckage plays and he sees his crew again would be perfect) but I'm somewhat satisfied by what we got.

Shepard Alive, in fact. Shepard survives the blast. We'll never know if Shepard actually lives, because they didn't see fit to tell us.

You're in a previously unexplored part of the Citadel, the fleet has left the system, the Citadel is absolutely massive, you have no food or water, you're badly injured, the destruction on Earth is untold (so how much of a priority is combing through the wreckage of the Citadel going to be), the Keepers are known to cart bodies off to the protein vats, and probably a bunch of other points you could come up with.

That you survived at all is improbable, but we have to believe it because it is shown (you didn't die during the explosion). That you live is even more unlikely, if you take the time to think about it. All they needed to do was to create the probability of rescue. Show somebody searching the rubble. Hear somebody saying they've located Shepard. Something. But they chose to just leave you with a broken body buried beneath the rubble, alone in the dark.

The breath scene goes hand in hand with the scene where you LI smiles and decides not to put up shepards name onto the memorial.  It is meant to give you hope and speculate that they do infact reunite.
If you hate speculating, then start picking on Inception's ending that leaves you wondering if Cobb was still dreaming or not.

with the difference that 343 has a team of 300 and 4 years of development cycle AND they have the core halo team that has been around since halo CE AND seem to be doing everything right so far. People wanted the chief back after halo reach

Everyone should've stopped after Mass effect 2.
Imagine your own damn finale, you don't need bioware to make it for you, do you?
