After finally finishing the game after a 60 hour playthrough for my first run, and starting up my second playthrough I began thinking about all these neat npc's you come across thoughout the game.  Now I enjoyed all the main playable cast you've allowed us to take bioware but, when I play rpgs I always find myself wanting to take along characters who are not recruitable. Especially in this game which is a testament to your writer's skills.

So anyway, fellow gamers I'm curious if there is are characters in the game who are not recruitable that you wished were, and why do you want them? What I mean is what sold you on this charcter that made you think "I want this guy/gal in my party!" Same question to you bioware folks I would like to hear your thoughts on characters you enjoyed that where not part of the main cast that you wanted in.

And here is a coulpe of the characters I wanted to start this off:

First up we have Murdock, the mayor of Redcliffe.

The first thing that piqued my intrest to this guy was his voice actor.  I loved his voice, it sounded rugged and gave me the impression this guy has was tough. I also liked that the guy had a sense of duty, and despite my attempts he wouldn't join me claiming he already had his lord to follow.

Second would be Daveth

Now even though he is only in your party for a short time and doesn't have much dialouge, I found him funny.  He seemed to have this laidback attitude and wasn't really expecting things from people, a bit of a care free guy.
And then his one line at the joining when Ser Jory, the actual "knight" questions his own commitment to the cause, Daveth just blurts out his willingness to go through with it. He's willing to risk his own death for a chance to end the blight I wasn't expecting that to come from him.

Third would be King Cailan

Now I know the very idea of him being recruitable woudl drastically rewrite the story's plot but I enjoyed the the man's cheerful demeanor and sense of justice, he was willing to help everyone he could even if some of it was just for glory. The thing that made me want him as a companion was the idea of him and Alistair bantering back and forth. One of Alistair's banter's has him mentioning the one time he meet Cailan as a youth, and while Alistair was trying to introduce himself, Cailan saw some shiny swords and ran off.  I could just picture those two joking back and forth about cheese and swords and think of it with Morrigan in tow. I guess Cailan seems more like a second Alistair.

And finally fourth would be Sandal

I guess I don't have a great reason to want him in my party but I just found the guy so adorable, like I found dog to be.
Plus I chuckle a little bit everytime he says, Enchantment? Enchantment!Posted Image Every time.

The lady that becomes Keeper after Zathrian...Lanaya I think? I liked her. She was pretty curious about the outside world too. A Dalish party NPC would've been nice. Zevran is half Dalish but that doesn't count :P

Teagan. Simply because he's awesome.

Daveth. He seems like such an interesting character, almost reminiscent of Bishop from NWN2 but without the psycho masochistic personality. I guess I just think he's cute, then. :)

Cullen. He's adorable.

Cailan. It'd be interesting to bring him along and see how the story unfolds if he survived.

Gorim. As a replacement for Oghren, since they're voiced by the same guy.

Jowan. I'd like to have the chance to change him from being such a coward into a capable mage who'd actually be useful.

Sandal, Sabdal, Sandal! Don't need the grey Wardens, he owns everything. Maker included.

Other NPCs: Ser Cauthrien. She kicks serious ass, would have made an interesting romancable if it was possible to get her earlier in game.

Daveth: agree, shame he got snuffed out in the Joining, because I really liked him. Wouldn't have minded a quick roll in the hay before the joining.

Fergus: Would have been nice to find him in the wilds, regardless of origin, since he'd be on board for killing Howe and Loghain for their parts in his family's downfall.

Soris from city elf origin

Cullen for female mage origin.

Dwynn from Redcliffe

Cammen! We need a party member who gets bullied and is the gullable young coming of age guy who is the but of everybodies jokes.

Also my mage likes them young... hmmm

Agreed, Soris would be a nice companion. Or Shianni. It didn't seem to me like they were actually cousins, even though they refer to the PC as such. It seemed more like a friendly term than an actual family connection so I wouldn't mind having a romance with either of them.

Tamlen. Too bad things ended the way they did though.

Gorim. Self explanatory.

Sandal.

Shianni. If she could dual wield bottles every enemy would be perma-stunned.

Cullen, Teagan and Ser Gilmore. Team eye candy ftw!

Yess! Funny you should mention Bishop, because I felt somewhat similar. Daveth is a Bishop who remembered to take his meds and got over his gate-breaking fixation through therapy.

I was hoping there would be an option to have a little fun with him before the joining, but sadly, no.

I wouldn't want to recruit Teagan though. I'd rather he remain unassumingly sexy in redcliffe and avoid getting blood splatter all over him.

I'm with you all on Daveth. All my future characters will be about free love.

Edit: You're right about the Bishop thing Skadi. I actually liked him, but he had more issues that it was worth.

Definitely!  Daveth, to me, seemed like the kind of person Bishop could have been if his life hadn't been so messed up.  Unfortunately, we never had the chance to get to know Daveth any better, so we can't say for sure if he really is anything like Bishop at all.

And I agree, if would have been nice to sneak off with him before the Joining.  It'd be a nice addition.

Well, Teagan does technically get blood spatter on himself during the final battle, but I see what you mean.  If not a companion, then I wish he had a bigger role in the story itself.  For the most part, he has a fairly small part.  It would have been interesting if Arl Eamon had died, and Teagan had taken over.

EDIT: Haha, sorry AntiChri5.

Murdock - As the OP mentioned GREAT voice actor.

Shaini - good personality.

Ser Cauthrien - she seemed so damned honorable (in a normal sort of way, unlike Sten). She would have messed up the game balance though.

Gregore - Like Murdock, he had a good voice actor, and like Ser Cauthrien, a fine sense of honor. I really liked how pained but committed to duty he was when I advised nullification of the circle.

Daveth, Cullen, Ser Gilmore. They were all interesting characters with not enough screen time. Plus kinda cute.

Somebody said Fergus and I have to agree there too, I think he would be an awesome addition. He'd be a good party member in brawls plus he could add a lot in conversations. Big brother types FTW.

Hehehe, yes, I loved Bishop, but with the mods, I only romanced him when I was playing characters as mental as he was.

Daveth might have issues, but definitely none like ranger boy did. Consider first lines the first time you talk to either:

Daveth (paraphrased) hey, you're the new Grey Warden? wow. (pleasant conversation ensues)

Bishop: If I wanted a wench, I'd go to the brothel.(slap) More insults and threats follow.

Daveth definitely took his meds.:)

I would like some more Teagan screentime. Hell, I'd love a mini mod where you could actually give him a kiss, like guys can kiss Bella in the bar.

But a little fun with Daveth would make a great add on mod, including a bit of weepieness and sadness after the joining.

Now to actually contribute:

Jowan. With a bit of work im sure i could hammer him into something decent.

Shianni. This much chutzpah (spelling?) gets anyone in.

Dalish keeper chick (Lanaya?) different perspective on things, plus fulfill my twisted desires. Or at least the elf related ones.

Both dwarf origin companions were excellent in my opinion and I was somewhat disappointed, but not surprised, when I learned that I can't bring them with me. At least they didn't meet a grisly end like some of the other origin companions.

Daveth was a creep....wouldnt want him along.

Leski from the Dwarf Commoner origin would also be great, he seemed like a nice guy not happy with having to do the things he does to get by

Cullen: an alternate to Wynne if you chose to go down the path of being the Annulment Invoker.

Fergus: a good temporary recruitable character when you're going after Arl Howe.

Caridan: He would be a very strong recruitable member. Would make my life easier when facing the archdemon lol.

Duncan: A great leader to have in a party.

Fergus, Definitely. Even just have him come in at the Last battle alongside Eamon & Irving (When using Human Noble Origin) would be just fine.

Cauthrien for sure.

We need more ladies with 2 hander specializations :D

And I find it odd in her fmv during the retreat from ostagar sequence why she wields both a 2 hander AND a shield?

Is she THAT badass?

Kitty and Caradain.

A desire demon would be an interesting companion, and Caradain would be a lot more useful fighting darkspawn than bathing in Lava. Besides, he sounds like a nice guy. He and Shale should go make baby Golems. ^_^
