Dragon Age is a dark fantasy so there must be a blood. It's also realistic so it's be better to show that you are dirty(from blood).

Thanks to everybody that responded so far.

As I stated, I love blood and guts in my video games. But I don't think that it needs to come BLASTING out of your enemy with every little love tap you give him. I don't need to wait for the game to come out to see what it is like because I have seen every combat gameplay video there is. I have also read the write up that I will post the link to at the bottom.

I understand that bioware is going for a gritty, and dark world. But it is perfectly obvious that they are trying to do this with story and character, as well as gruesome combat. And like a lot of western RPGs, they want you to immerse yourself in the world. However, say you just leave a town and all kinds of good stuff has happened that has drawn you into the game, and here come some enemies. You attack them with your sword and blood comes BLASTING out of them like someone set off a tiny grenade. It also shouldn't cover you head to toe like you are a spotted leopard. IT BREAKS IMMERSION because it is too unrealistically in-your-face. It just becomes comical at that point, which is probably not the emotion they were wanting to bring out in you.

That said, I am sure there is a gore toggle. But I am betting it is of the on/off variety, and not a slider to tone it down.

GamesRadar has a write-up about all the blood in this link below:

Think of it as western version of an Anime cartoon with blood splatter flying all over the place, to be honest i find the fact they arnt holding back on the gore to be refreshing i mean in Baldur's Gate with a critical hit they would just explode all over the place, in NWN more or less something similar with a red mist, it just seems alot of good sword swinging games arnt adding in a good bit of blood these day, i personly am looking forward to the idea of severing a little finger and having blood spurt everywhere.

Yeah, I don't think its too big a deal. I am thankfull that they have added the toggles because it is a bit silly and unrealistic.

But not biggie, I will just toggle to preference and let everyone else do the same.

you can have your dog lick ya

you can go to camp and wipe it off

and if there is any place you rest i believe it will also give the option

but if you dont do any of these it will stay on you

doesnt matter how much time passes

I like the blood. Is it realistic? No. Does it look cool? Yes.

No, no Kill Bill Vol 1 nightclub scenarios please. That's just silly. A soupcon of blood with a side garnish of gore will do me fine.

the worst blood ive seen in this game

would probably when they show a dwarf throw a small knife into a human

for a second it almost looked like the blood wasnt moving even though it was gushing out

and it wasnt connected like a stream

I'm just happy that we can turn the blood off.

It can be cool for some people, but for me it adds nothing and feels better without it

I guess it depends on how the blood really works ingame. I wouldn't want someone start spurting a whole jar of blood if I hit the enemy on the armor, that'd be unrealistic. However, slashing someone with 30+ Str on the flesh should bring out a decent amount of spraying redness.

I find their portrayal of blood juvenile and over the top rather than realistic. "Mature" and "Gritty" can be expressed through other means than fountains of blood coming out of your shoulder. But hey, since there's going to be a toggle, no problem.

There are many Frank Miller fans that would disagree with you.

Again, we'll just have to wait to see how it is IG. So far the only huge amounts of blood we've seen has been in trailers. In the Giant Bomb video I didn't see many fountains of blood.

I agree with him to an extent, and I'm a Frank Miller fan. :Psuppose it's all in the style of how it's done.

Well I think that thous splutters look stupid to :D I wish they'd done the blood in similar way that The Witcher did - flaying from the blade when the move goes thou the body - after the fight in close quarters with several opponents blood (and vareouse body parts) was EVERYWHERE on the floor, walls and probably celling, and you could tell where it came from after watching Geralt move :D That was much more fun than the usual ketchup splutters that DA:O seams to have... :(

Heh, yeah, there does seem to be a fair amount of splattering going on doesn't it? To be honest though it hasn't really bothered me much when watching gameplay videos and I probably won't notice it after playing for a while.
