And all those characters are like 10x cooler looking than the current DAO ones, especially Allister and Morrigan (though the current Morrigan is pretty cute).

Alistair was not in the trailer.  That was Blur's take on the PC.

Why Bioware WHY :pinched:

Because none of our machines would be able to run that game.

I'm pretty sure that's meant to be the PC and not Alistair. I like their Leliana better and the actual Morrigan better. When you actually get to that point in the game, you do still get some pretty cool final blow animations, especially if it's your DW rogue that kills her. I was much more worried about getting my **** handed to me than worrying about why it didn't look like the commercial. ;)

My bad. Still that would've been a real cool Allister.

Right but I meant as a recorded cutscene, not in-engine of course.

the first movie you watch, before you create your character.

Ah, okay, my apologies. Now that I see it I realize that I hit Esc every time I make a new character. I've only seen that movie once, the day the game came out.

Anyway, I don't think it's bad. I believe the opening is meant to reproduce some of the feel of medieval manuscripts and paintings, hence the apparent 'crudeness'. The later action scenes seemed to fine to me. But to each his or her own.

Just so generic, almost parody.  Once I dug into the game, I felt like the game world was surprisingly unique and subtle.  Just wished Bioware put it's best foot forward you know?

The medieval manuscript / painting part of it was pretty awesome actually.  It just the voiceover, specifically the writing (not the delivery which was again good).

I don't know why I'm complaining so much.  Sorry everyone!  This'll be my last post.

lol, you weren't rude, condescending, or snotty in the least, you were expressing disappointment, nothing wrong with that.

Really, there isn't.

I also had never seen those trailers before. But if I had, I'd have been very surprised when playing the game for the first time and seeing that it had NOTHING in common with those trailers. Seriously, what sense do the trailers make then?
The Duncan intro movie is okay, but indeed not very thrilling in comparison.

every story has been done a hundred times before. i tend to be incredibly impressed with originality, rather than expect it. so long as execution is well done i am usually pretty happy.

I'm not saying I expect the gameplay to look like the trailer, but I do expect the trailer to include actual game cinematics - this isn't a movie theatre poster, you know?

When so many in-game cinematics are rendered outside of the actual game engine, there's no reason the in-game cinematics can't actually look like the trailer - you know? Not even hardware reasons - that youtube vid could play on a P3, you know?

I was also expecting the game would play like the trailer (not expecting the gameplay to look like it precisely, though).

Don't feel bad. It took me a couple views before I realized that guy was supposed to be the PC and not Alistair, too.

I thought that was worthy of a comparison to Peter Jacksons amazing Directing of Lord of the Rings.

Dude I liked it. The intro movie where the 4 multi-race wardens charge in to a darkspawn army single handedly? that was epic.

Ok I lied.  But only b/c I found this mod that tries to recreate the Sacred Ashes trailer faces in game.  I'm loving the new Lily.

You can just add the heads you want.  I would advise against adding the armor b/c it's pretty overpowered.

Blur makes trailers that are full of awesome action, and entertain you for 3 minutes.  The point of them is because they are awesome.

I liked the bit of history the opening dialog gives. I also wish there were some cut scenes that looked like the trailers, but then again, I'm very pleased with how seemless the game flows.

I think some of the issue could be that many cut scenes involve your PC and other customizable models, and they wanted to have a consistent look throughout the game.

I've said it before and I'll say it again......people are too hung up on how a game looks.

Wicked visuals do not a good game make, sure they might get your attention, but if the gameplay sucks total arse, you're going to regret the purchase and stop playing.

If the visuals are "meh" but the gameplay rocks, you're going to keep playing it.

Some of the best games ever made were done with sprites and 16 colors for God's sake.
