I used this preface because my chosen career path colours my opinion to some degree. Obviously I take tropes and literary deconstruction more seriously than others, but I also wanted to let people know that, no, I'm not some professional like the BioWare folks are, and that should be taken into consideration as well.Tritium315 wrote...
You should show us, not tell us, that you're an amateur writer.
All of which is adequately conveyed by the use of word "amateur," which does in fact work as a "show, don't tell" concept. "Show, don't tell" only truly works for people who are actually willing to look beyond what they are told directly, which is obviously not you.

My problem with Traynor is more the fact that she makes Liara's entire ascent to Shadow Broker and the arc that dealt with that completely useless.
Apart from Liara using her Shadow Broker info sources and Prothean-archaelogy skills to find the Crucible and so save the entire Galaxy, the arc is, indeed, fairly irrelevant.

Aside from that if you talked to her, she does other things like piece data coming through QEC together so that they can be coherently understood.

I have to agree. I think Traynor is one of the more thought out characters in ME. If you want to pick holes at each character in the same vain, don't be told something but see it, you can do it with just about everyone of them...

Yup and that's it for the rest of the game. GO SHADOW BROKER.
Honestly, couldn't she have tracked down TIM's base? The female krogan? Anything else?

Not a fake accent. Or at least, the actor went to an appropriately posh school for her to have acquired it honestly.

Err... she's from London. She really is English.

The rest is true. Showering in your underwear is just plain stupid, but I suspect that's rating related and she is definitely annoying.

Well at least she takes some clothes off, unlike Shepard who just jumps in there fully clothed.

She still gives you more info than the so-called Shadow Broker.
And yes, Traynor does things, but her supposed amazingly useful abilities never seem to manifest. We are told that she is helpful but she never does helpful things.

What the hell was the point of those two and that stupid scanner? Most annoying thing on the Normandy (asides from the stupid barred rooms.)

The Shower scene ... I blame Bioware... like seriously are they so afraid of blacklash and people so replused by breast that people now have to shower in the underwear.... for the love of all that is holy... really.

I hear what you're saying with thing about "telling now showing." Thing is, I think they"showed" enough. EDI's expository comments about Samantha's wonderfulness did feel a little forced and 4th wall-breaking, I'll grant you that.
You mentioned Cortez. His arc had its own problems. Mainly, some really cheesy writing in a couple of parts.
Overall, though, I thought Traynor and Cortez were pretty well done.
Traynor, however, does not have a story arc. She has no personal goal at all. Yet it almost feels like the writers are trying to force you to like her. Literally, the first time you meet her, EDI is like "yo, she's amazing." It's aggravating to have a character forced upon you like that. The only reason I let Diana Allers on the ship is because I almost never have to interact with her.
She could have used a stronger personal goal and story arc. Currently she is as bland as Kaiden in ME1 - she just exists.
Her backstory is good. However her current arc is "I just happened to be on board, I will try to help sir". Her development is very small, just steadily becoming more of an alliance officer rather than a tech.
Would have been nice if her parents were killed on Horizon or something, at least then it would have had some conflict.

The coolest thing about the toothbrush story is when you learn during the Citadel coup that Cerberus used them in order to smuggle in weapon parts.Sajuro wrote...
