can't import BG 1 character - please help!

My hero had really good atributes by the end of Baldur's Gate 1 and I want to import her into GB 2. When I go to import character there is nothing there although I have only just finished playing the game. I am not terribly technically able but I can follow simple instructions. I really don't want to go back to square one with this game - what do I have to do?

Probably the simplest thing to do is to import the character from a saved game. To import from a saved game you need the save to be in the BG2 save folder. That means you need to copy the save game from your BG1 save folder into the BG2 one.
When you start BG2 on the character creation screen click on the import button rather than starting to generate a new character.
