If Synthesis is the Reaper preferred option, why wasn't it a choice for my low EMS Shep? I only got to choose from Control or Destroy.

A third explanation: recall that our cycle can have synthetics work on the crucible too. We aren't the first cycle to have a synthetic race fight the Reapers. (100% fact - Starkid says this himself.) But if machines see Synthesis as logical/desirable, they would have been glad to build that function into the Crucible, possibly even without the organics they were working with realizing they did so.

Show me one synthetic race that has actively desired synthesis.
Look at the Geth, they find the idea of compromise with the Reapers repugnant. But suddenly synthetics fighting the Reapers are going to want to become one with them.

Each and every choice is what the Reapers want :

Destroy - kills the Geth, a synthetic race which completely contradicts the entire basis of their existence

Control - they get to indoctrinate Shepard and have him lead them, has to be better than the bloody starchild

Synthesis - reaping has never been this efficient

Even if you can understand them? How is that supposed to go? The Reapers have killed the equivalent of our current Earth's population 300k times.

Shepard: I'm sorry Harbinger, I know you have father issues. You've always needed to prove to him that you're valuable, but he's gone...
Harbinger: *starts crying* I'm so sorry I killed your friends and neighbors, can we be friends now?
Shepard: Yeah, let's go get some frozen yogurt.

Because Bioware has a giant boner for Synthesis while giving a middle finger to what Mass Effect stands for due to their artistic vision.

Will you stop trying to apply the morality of normal conflict to the Reapers?
When a being declares you nothing but a pest to be exterminated, you're not going to waste time coming to an "understanding".

You would if the alternatives were either commiting terrible atrocities or having terrible atrocities commited on you (at least, that's the hope although this forum does give me doubts).

Setting aside the fact that synthesis is total submission, not compromise, I'm sure many tried to appease the Reapers. And failed. Because Reapers do not negociate.

Submission how? Reapers become a part of the galactic community, the domination comes in the Renegade-control. If you're gonna head-canon at least try to keep it semi-consistent with what's shown in game.

There is NO understanding. Synthesis is total capitulation. We change to suit them.

They also change to suit us, in the Synthesis ending it clearly shows the Reapers not killing everybody - a massive improvement in relations.

Where's that? When every Reaper you've ever spoken with said we can't understand and our extincition is inevitable?

Yes they do, and then we create the Crucible which gives new options, at which point the Catalyst bows to our superior solutions and asks which one we'd like to pick.

Why is that change??

They accomplished their goal and changed EVERYONE... so tehre is no more reason to kill us... that is not changing! that is resting after accomplishing their goal!

You are committing atrocities yourself regardless of what ending you pick, save Refusal.

Irrelevant. You CANNOT come to an understanding with the Reapers, and no organic would be stupid enough to try.

Submission how? Reapers become a part of the galactic community, the domination comes in the Renegade-control. If you're gonna head-canon at least try to keep it semi-consistent with what's shown in game.

A galactic community of Reapers. We changed to a form they find tolerable.
That is NOT understanding.

They also change to suit us, in the Synthesis ending it clearly shows the Reapers not killing everybody - a massive improvement in relations.

Yes, they don't kill us because we are now them. They haven't changed at all.
A one-sided compromise is not a compromise.

Refusal leads to Reaperisation, Synthesis is different. Reaperisation has billions of organics interred in a synthetic life-form, Synthesis is so different I recommend you watch the video.

What bugged me the most was that he said we'll inevitably reach synthesis anyway....Well wait then so tech singularity won't happen? He contradicted himself big time.

Letting everyone die because of pride, sorry principle is no longer considered an atrocity?

Huh...

I recommend you read between the lines, and realise that synthesis remakes all life in the Reaper's image. A life form they can tolerate.

It wasn't to begin with, considering whether or not you were the ones committing the atrocities in the first place.

The Reaper's goals were the Harvest, the change makes the Harvest no longer necessary so they change their goals. Note all the killing everybody that isn't happening? That is a change for the Reapers.

You let billions die. I support your right and even your reasons to do so. But don't kid yourself. You are directly responsible for the completion of the cycle when you could've done something about it.

The harvesting was a means to an end. That was not their goal. Their goal was synthesis. Listen to the Catalyst.

Again you repeat that they're not killing everybody.
I'm sorry everyone, I must Godwin the thread because this person refuses to get it.

If Hitler made a magic machine that turned every human into his Aryan ideal, he would stop killing everyone.
Would this be because he came to an understanding? No! It's because he turned everyone into an Aryan!
