Now that we're seen the "Worst Movie" Thread, it's time for a more Positive approach. One of the Best, for me is:

hmm I have no one best myself.

If I had to pick then I have a few that had a huge impact.

Star Wars TESB. That got me into star wars in a big way, scfi also, in a huge way.

Akira. when I watched that as a young boy while flipping around the various stations, BAM WHAT IS THIS!? I mean going from boring ass bugs bunny to seeing a german clown biker getting hit in the face with a hammer. That opend me up to the world of Anime, which has had several hits and misses. And while I've seen better ones, this is still the one I have to call best. As if not for it I'ld never have watched the others.

I can't remember the name of it, so I'll just generalize, several War World Two films got me into military matters, though ever since Saving Private Ryan, the only military Film I've seen worth Watching was, The Lost Battalion, and recently The 9th Company

In terms of FF or martial films, and classics I have to tie to either one of these two.

Kagemusha, and Seven Samurai. Both films should be watch be anyone with a real taste in films.

Westerns I'm ehh with some of them I like but short of unforgiven nothing I'ld majorly praise. Don't care for Horror much minus the old classics. Now its all just blood and guts, and no substance.

1 - Heathers
2 - Labyrinth
3 - Better Off Dead
4 - Groundhog Day
5 - Dark City (1998 sci-fi film version)
6 - Clerks
7 - The Dark Crystal
8 - Edward Scissorhands
9 - The Gamers: Dorkness Rising
10 - The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant

I'm lazy and just went with a list of my favorites. I don't know if Heathers deserves any awards, but that doesn't stop it from being my favorite movie of all time. ;)

There are so many great films out there, I will only list a couple of classics I watched recently with good blu-ray transfers (no particular order, but The Shining is probably my all time favorite).

The Shining
Blue Velvet
Realm of the Senses
Bladerunner
Rosemary's Baby
Vertigo
Rebecca
Oldboy
Audition
Alien
Apocalypse Now Redux
Taxi Driver
Raging Bull
Grave of the Fireflies (on DVD only)
The Hunger
The Hidden
Triad: Election
Exiled
American Psycho
John Carpenter's The Thing
North by Northwest
The Man Who Fell to Earth
Ordinary People

Also recently watched John Carter of Mars on Blu-ray and I was expecting it to be horrible but really liked it.

I used to view Dark City as a prequel to the Matrix.

Which I still do since they never did make those sequels. Nope, never ever did. No sequels at all.

I wish I had your gift of selective memory. Alas, I must make do with the grim reality of what followed. :crying:

I hadn't compared Dark City to the Matrix before. They are similar in ways now that you mention it. Except I lurve Dark City way, way more than the Matrix and those other movies that shall not be named. :?

I have the fondest memory of My Neighbor Totoro, which I've only seen once. I've only seen it once because I have a longstanding agreement that I'd watch it again after seeing Grave of the Fireflies.

I saw a total of one whole minute of Grave of the Fireflies before I burst into tears because I know how it ends. And the little girl is like "hey big brother, can you open this for me?" And he's all "sure, little sister! I'm your big brother, and I will always be there for you!" And I lost it.

And thus goes why I haven't seen My Neighbor Totoro.
