If you are first time at the gates of Orzammar, the Loghain messenger actually refers to 'king Loghain'. That makes him selfproclaimed king right there.

For Loghain to be a self-proclaimed King, we'd need to actually see Loghain proclaim himself king.

We don't.

The messenger is the only person to ever speak of "King Loghain". While that might be leftover from a previous version of the plot, my guess is that he started off saying "Regent" then, after a week at the door with no luck in getting in, thought that "King" might work better. ^_^

You guys forget the fact you can Persuade her to see Loghain's gone crazy and she lets you pass to save Ferelden.

Does that mean she then becomes my stalker chica?

No.  She then becomes an invisible chica, never to be seen again.

she said the exact same 'insult' to my noble human , which i also thought was silly, but yeah i take it as just some generic comment .... (she also said it to my dwarf commoner)

Spoilers ...... as if you didn't know .......

killing her later was good (although it annoyed me further that she would detain me on my way to the damn landsmeet), and even better was a second playthrough when i actually persuaded her that logain was a maniac after all and she agreed with me and let me pass - HA! Bwahahaha

Right I'm just going to say it straight then.

The same reason why you couldn't gut Bhelen and every dwarf in the area towards the end of your origin.

Because the game won't let you and if they did I hope the consequences would be that your character died in the attempt.

well you're a dwarf prince ... your title will only mean anything amongst dwarfs ... unless there's a profit for the humans to be made by dealing with dwarfs.

also: if Ser Cautrien is anything like Loghain for background then she'll also won't automatically respect you because of a title, only when she's obliged to respect it. Loghain was a commoner originally and had to earn his title. as a result he will not think highly of nobles if they have not earned his respect in some way themselves but simply inherited a title, he'll only pretend that it matters out of reasons of convenience.

Though you can convince her to change her stance on Loghain...

I don't think she idolizes him any less if that dialog is successful, but you can make her choose between him and Ferelden.  In this, she shows her true colors as a Patriot.  This is, frankly, why I would love to be able to recruit her either into my party, or the Wardens even if I won't be the one to actually do it.  Especially since, in this play through, Loghain's blood has just splashed all over Anora at the Landsmeet.  She has the option of going back to being a mere commoner girl that can fight, or signing up to stop the blight, and maybe helping rebuild the Wardens after.

She said that to my mage (who I assume is a commoner) and I thought "Churl?! I can kill you with my brain!" So later I ran into her and fought her, barely prevailing. It ends up Ser Cauthrien can call pretty much anyone churl and get away with it.

In my Dwarf Noble playthrough I decided she was dead meat after that churl remark, considering that you introduce yourself as a prince a few seconds earlier in the conversation.

So I cut a dashing figure in the Landsmeet with bits of her blood, brains and hair splattered all over my armour.

I find it curious that she does say the same thing to everyone - and moreso because it is Howe you are talking to in that line, not Loghain.

I can fully understand her jumping to Loghain's defense when you insult him, but for her to keep silent when you call Loghain a deserter and regicide...er... or something like that, and then jump down your throat when you make a snide comment about Howe seems...odd.

To the humans of Fereldan they dont care what you are in the other races. You could of been king of Orzammar for all they care and still be called a churl. The humans in the game think the world roates around them and their maker and if you dont believe in the maker your next to nothing in their eyes.

Hence the epilouge where Brother Burkle gets killed and the Chantry wants to go on a Exaulted March to clense the Dwarfs of sin. (holy war in other words.) One accident and they want to go to war over it. Just goes to show you how much they are up their own backsides.

As for Cautherine when I played a dwarf noble I realy wished there was an option in the conversation to carry on the argument with her and retaliate in the insult she gave me. I felt so glad when I told her to draw her sword and stop talking. She deserved the axe in the head I gave her in the end.

I think the word "churl" gets used somewhere else in the game as well.

It is strange because Cauthrien is from a peasant background herself. I thought the word would be used in a derogatory way by some noble.

Could be some psychological issues. If she has rejected her peasant background. Or feels she has risen above it.

actually you're not a prince...you were cast out..."dead" in the eyes of Orzammar and all it's citizens...or did you miss that part??

regardless even if you WERE a prince still...you WERE a prince of Orzammar..you have no authority or title in Denerim...so in essence..you're still a "churl"

all the explanations are well and good, but someone please explain to me why i can't shove a massive two-handed sword through her gullet for insulting me!

because that would be an idiotic move on your part.  attack her in denerim when you're trying to get the citizens on your side...and doing so would mean Loghain/Howe coming to her aid..which means you'd be forced to fight and possibly slay them there too.

yah THAT would be REAL smart...wouldn't it.

besides you get to give her what she deserves at an APPROPRIATE time.  Not an idiotic one

Yup.  How humans view the social structure:

1.  The Maker
2.  Loghain/human Royals
3.  Human noble
4.  Human other
5.  War dog
6.  Mage
7.  Dwarf
...
16.  cockroach
17.  Elf
