No mighty boot is the reason it sucks? Only two weapons!!! OH NOES! Surely two weapon limit is horrible game design and any game with it must suck. Quick, somene modify the Crysis score down to 10%.

Seriously.
If people cannot properly explain or defend the games they love, then how can they be expected to be be taken seriously.

People can love OR hate any game movie or book as much as they like.
But when they they start ingoring flaws, or overblowing them in order to justify their hate, it's THEN that I start having problems with them. The most basic case of ignoring reality. Absolute ZERO objectivity.

People who ignore problems with the FF story and it's many, MANY plot holes really irk me.
To them the plot may not be important - and that is fine in a way - but they simply handwave it away, like it shouldn't be important to anyone, at all.

I have never seen sillier, more stupid characters than in FF. Seriously, half of them are retards with the combined IQ of a rock, or incompetents that shouldn't even be alive.

This. If he would have said the story was silly and goofy, but that is the kind of thing he likes, then I would have said fair enough. But claiming it belongs up there with the best was too much.

Because it's an artifact.

DNF looks, feels and plays like a game from the 90's that was "kitbashed" into the 21st century.

The game is plagued with texture issues - graphics pop-in 10-20 seconds after you load a new area. The humor is either bizarrely out-of-date (the Christian Bale-esque rant from the host in the opening level, for instance) or hypocritical - Duke complains about "valve puzzles" , then proceeds to do the damn puzzle. He complains that "power armor is for ******", yet he gets drunk off one can of beer and dies after a handful of hits. The multiplayer is uninspired, repetitive and broken as all hell. Even the darker moments (like the discovery of the Holsom Twins in The Hive) feels like it was done in bad taste.

A game like Halo (which was the first of the "modern shooters") worked because it took a ton of disparate elements like regenerating health, limited weapons, controllable vehicles that the player could jump into at any time, etc. and combined in such a way to make the genre faster and more accessible. DNF is not Halo, but it certainly tries to be, and that's just not what Duke is about.

You don't get a full arsenal of guns (with the great guns being extremely limited in ammo, and not practical since you almost always need a heavy weapon as one of your two guns), the Ego mechanic is silly and doesn't mean anything in the end, ammo is scarce even in extended gunfights that are begging for it, there are no medpacks and the whole "hidden secrets" that were a staple of the series look like they've been tossed out the door to focus on linearity.

At the end of the day, it wasn't worth the wait. That said, I agree with the rest of your post.

Speaking of Yevon, was i the only person who was disappointed with Yu Yevon's appearance. Seriously he looked like an Unknown from Pokemon.

I do acknowledge that there are things in XIII that ppl consider faults. Most notably, the extreme linearity of the first thirrd of the game. But I personally liked the linear structure. I don't think I said otherwise in any of my posts. In one post in this thread I actually said I know there are ppl that think those elements suck, but I just disagree. So basically it's exactly as you say, and so we should just be able to agree to disagree.

BUT on the topic of DNF. I have reasons or not liking it. The sense of humor was anything but funny to me and the game played very generically for an FPS (which I think most FPS games are very similar). So I wasn't just bashing it. The oft unfunny vulgarity and generic feel make me think of it as swill. Just my opinion though, cause like that other poster said, they thought it was a decent game. Same way I feel that XIII is a great game.

I could care less about the main games in Final Fantasy XIII at this point. The real pointof interest for the series now is Versus XIII. Now if only they would give more info I would gladly give them my money.
