But no. They didn't. Instead we get crap-shoot ff13-2. I played the demo, and while leveling up was a new (and better) take on the crystarium, the fact that you effing recruit monsters is pathetic. It's a cop-out to actually develop character. Plus you get stuck with dumb serah. Oh yeah! And the plot basically negates everything in ff13. So. No. No thank you. I won't buy it.

She was trained as a peace-keeper and was positioned to patrol and guard a small town. She was essentially a well-disciplined, yet still unremarkable cop. Nothing about her backstory justifies the skills she has to mow down special-task soldiers and mechs like she does in the beginning of XIII.
And she says almost word for word she was just angry and wanted to kill things. The realization that she and everyone were "pets" is ironically what snapped her out of the tantrum. The fal... whatever they're called gave her and humanity "purpose" or something. She decides the best time to reflect on this (with a strange hallucination of her sister for added effect, of course) is while she and the token JRPG kid are being pursued by a legion of soldiers dispatched specifically to kill them. It was stupid.

Also what Goron said.
I really wish they'ld go to something new, or give us a run of or a part two to a Game we want. But from what I've seen with Kingdom Hearts, FFXIII, and the general running of the company...its to FF and most of its other titles, what EA is to CnC. I mean yeah they have gained a new generation, but they are about to not have a core group anymore.
And the bad thing with the current youth group is many of them will move on from gaming. Though I wonder if thats how SE works given how gaming seems to be viewed among the typical Japanese population. I mean when a gaming and anime convention was shut down by the earthquake, the mayor of Tokyo pretty much said "This is a good thing now the degenerates can get to work" and his comment was in general applauded, and kept his popularity raiting high.
If that is indeed a mainstream view, then it makes sense why SE is pretty much ignoring the older fans. They don't mind our money, but laugh at us.

Not that this has anything to do with SE or Japanese gaming but that Tokyo mayor is a real a-hole and that comment was yes, only liked by the majority who happen to be a lot of old folks... Who cry out this everytime a murder happens, "did you hear one of those sick otaku kill that person/kid?". Even when the killer was not a otaku...Confess-A-Bear wrote...
Surprsingly what blacklash said. The game had bad writing, and half of the cast I wanted to choke the life out of.

I mean, I get it otaku are creppy as hell but it's like the same thing as saying GTA makes people into killers, i.e. a stupid opinion. But Japan likes their stupid opinons and will keep thinking of them as facts I guess.

But aren't Otaku at the point of pillow girlfriends and marrying in-game love interests in person? Seems a far cry from pulling a few all nighters with GTA or MW.

But no seriously all my point was that Otaku are more or less only a harm to themselves and are in no way a danger to their country. But think for some reason a lot of Japanese people think Otaku are the sum of all evil(creppy yes, but evil?) and that all manga, games and anime should be put on the porn racks or banned altogether. You know instead of dealing with real country problems?

Heck its likely in my life time the Imperial Military might be reinstated, give Japan signed a Military Pact with South Korea.
But on the original topic. The above law was wrote very vauge, and functions in a way of sensorship, for example Why a number of Manga's now haven't had school uniforms (Bleach in praticular) is because the law can technically stop a Manga from publication on those grounds. There is a huge public movement aimed at restoring tradtional values and ideals, and unlike some movements of the like in the US or the UK at times its working.
Which in a manner makes the recent shift of SE, manga, anime, and other japanese game developers shifting to western markets, highly logical. I mean I never seen so many Japanese games or Manga's with Multi ethnically casts or aimed toward western markets as I do now. Which with the Tokyo Law being pushed and passed elsewhere, I'm guess they know there days in Japan are numberd.
Also @ Andriod. Sorta, but it has more to do with the Economic stagnation and agressiveness of its markets. Most people if not employed by a time, simply give up. Or don't want to run the race. Its actully a huge social problem in Japan with shut ins. Plus many Japanese Women do not want to marry a man thats not weatlhy given societal issues. Money is just so engrained into the population as a means of judging a persons value, that if you don't make it to high university or a major Corp, then you are nothing but a sad sad failure. Or a Country Bumpkin. Its funny how much closet annimosity is in Japan among its people, and aimed at outsiders. Not healthy in the long run really.
To make it worse the youth who ignore such, often join other "radical" groups. And generally are not wanted in Japan by the majority. Some of them have ended up in my area, and honestly I can see why they weren't wanted at home.
Think of biker gangs, but asian, with mullets, and they ride decommissioned school buses, and not bikes..

Sounds to me that they're just trying to save the FNC setting they've invested so much in over the years.
XIII was unsatisfying in almost every regard with the automated combat, linear maps, and relatively bland story.
Personally, I liked XIII's story. I felt that the only things it suffered from was the linearity of the game up until Pulse and how if the combat leader dies in battle, it's game over.
But ignoring those two things, XIII was pretty good for me. I liked the combat overall, as it's probably the second best combat iteration in a FF game IMO -- FFXII probably takes the gold home on that front.
Now that said, Pulse's presence came so late in the game that it made the game feel like non-linear maps was an afterthought. Add into that how there aren't any people to interact with on Pulse, and I really felt no compulsion to go gallavanting around.
I will say though that Pulse looked absolutely frickin' amazing, especially when the gargantuan behemoth is in the background.
Now I haven't played XIII-2, but I've read snippets of its plot and I don't mind the time-travel bit for there. Considering how highly advanced the setting was in XIII, time-travel doesn't seem that out of place.
Blacklash93 wrote...
I know she has a lot of fans and I'm probably not doing myself any favors for saying this, but I didn't like her at all. I'm all for cool female protagonists, but her backround is that she's a... small-town cop and I'm supposed to find it believable that she's the baddest badass ever?
Isn't that kind of a staple of FF games? Someone whose background may not justify their expertise in combat is in fact a badass in combat?
Hell, let's go further. Many media forms do just that. Movies, games, comics, blah blah blah. Just look at Die Hard, DAO and DAII, and so on and so forth.

At the risk of sounding un-pc, there has to be something unique to Japanese culture and/or the current social climate, because this is something that is pretty unique to that country. It's not like we're hearing stories from S. Korea, Vietnam, or China about young twenty-somethings marrying video game characters or cartoon themed body pillows.
Also for some reason there are a lot murders in S. Korea over video games, and it's not just a thing the media says.

That happened to me once too, though I had been pretty exhausted during the day anyway so I can't tell if I fell asleep because of a fight in FF13 or just because my exhaustion got to me.
I'm thinking the latter, considering I never fell asleep again afterwards during my playthrough of FF13.

Not really, the main Urban Area's of South Korea are like those in Japan, in terms of values, work load, etc. Many males in low standing in those areas, feel they can't get a wife, and literally after the heavy work load the only contact they have is digital. So its not culture so much as enviromental. Just in those area's social standing matters alot, and its based on wealth. You really have the US to thank for that, its basically all we passed on to them minus baseball.
South East Asia its highly unlikely to run into something like this, same with Mongolia.
The Chinese would just make you vanish. They have started vigorously over the last few years pushing the Seven Vitrues, religion, nationalism, patriotism, traditional culture, and social education. Its had mixed results, but its mainly kept control and "reversed" unhealthy influances.
Edit actully this provides a good insight, its mostly almost fully a Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea issue.
http://www.nytimes.c...&pagewanted=all
This is part of why these laws and such are happening, there are thought to be 700 thousand to a million of them in Japan, and they think its mostly games and such that turned them into this, rather than the general enviroment. Nasty issue. But the fact its not seen outside of those three countries is telling.
