Hello all, I'm fianally going to try a second playthrough... well try to complete a second playthrough. I've beat the game once on a mix of easy(some boss battles) and normal. I was a Bow Rouge Hawke and used mainly Anders, Varric, Issy, and Avaline.

I would like advice on what class to be between a Mage (Primal, Force and SH), Duel wield rouge, or Two Handed Warrior.  I will be playing on a mix of Hard and Normal (if some bosses are too tough). (I've tried all the above classes and like them all, I just think I had my fill of DA2 before  but now I'm ready for another full playthrough)

My party I really want to use (for their overall additude and banter) mostly are Varric for Ranged DPS (and lockpick/traps), Fenris for Tank and DPS, Merrill for Primal (taking advantage of CCC and an "off" tank with the Dalish tree).

I really don't want to use Anders or Avaline because I don't personally like them (I used them 1st playthrough for combat reasons) and I could switch out and use Sab or Issy some but not often.

The advice I really need is twofold. I know you can get by with Fen as a tank (or so I've heard)  1) Can I get by on only potions if I'm not a Mage, and 2) What class would you reccomend for Hawke with the above party I want to use. (Partly goes with 1)

Thank you for your time and advice.

I'd just play DAO.

You'd probably get good advice in the character build forum if you want it.

I really like Dual-wielding Cutting through things like ginsu Knives is really fun. I'm usually a warrior and bowman type of player but I find warrriors a little boring in DA2.

I like Merril and use her all the time without Anders. I don't use Fenris that much but I just did the deep roads with him on hard with Merril, a bowman and Varric.

Hopefully next playthrough I will try out Isabela with Aveline.

I was going to but it seemed more active here, a Mod can move it if really needed.

I liked the Duel Rouge too but it seems a little to over the top sometimes but they do have some good skills that are more usefull when duel-wielding than with a Bow user (though I loved using him too).

The main problem I'm having is chosing a class to go with the Party I want (and the characters I don't want) and that goes good on Hard with only potions (unless I go mage).

Why do you keep referring to your character as a type of cosmetic? =]

I'm not a power gamer, but my gut says that if you don't care for Aveline or Anders, I would go for a Force Mage. Dip into some healing and buffs that increase defence and make sure to give Fenris some powers that create STAGGERED condition, as that will be your main cross-class combo.
