So... who are you to determine that for everyone else?

While good intentions are still needed for good actions, they have the capacity to misguide. As they did with Saren.

I'll offer a new perspective - a personal one.

I realize I will die around 80, give or take a decade. And I'm happy with that. Really, I'll live out those 80 years, doing as much good as I can, then I'll depart, giving the way for the next generations. Hopefully, with as few regrets as possible.

But I understand that some wish to live more, love more, do more, see more.

Come on we were having so much fun with this a few pages ago. You know with Keiji's grey box becoming sapient. Then I had this idea about Liara melding with a grey box and uploading Shepard into it so we could make a Shepard-bot kind of like EDI, but looks like Shepard, and Liara could stop crying in the final scene and take the name off the wall.

You know. Yeah, I know it would be the third reboot. But it's not like there hadn't been a reboot before.

I know we'd have to make some rules, like ONLY ONE copy at a time, otherwise it gets too cylony (there are many copies). But think about it. You could do continuous backups of yourself to the cloud and when the old body gives out, just get a new body and download your last backup. Voila! Resurrection! And you could do it before everything went kaput. Conquer death itself!

And you wouldn't even have to worry about population growth because there would be no need to reproduce. Just a need to expand knowledge. No screamy squallering kids running around. No diapers to change.

Then someone had to go get all serious and war crimie and philosophical about it. *sigh*.

This mighy have been partially my fault and i'm sorry :crying:

Saren's intentions weren't good. He was willing to sacrifice ALL freedom. I'd hardly call that good. It doesn't help that even before indoctrination (Mass Effect: Revelation - novel), Saren was already an A-hole.

Well... Liara could also meld with a cloned Shepard... or could put Shepard's mind on a cloned Asari's body... so they spend mor time together.

HOW DARE YOU ASK A QUESTION OF ME THAT I CANNOT ANSWER

idk the process <_<    that and it just destroys who we are

that;s all i got

Well, yes, obviously Reapers shouldn't have been created in the first place, but now that we have them here, is it right to destroy them?

We don't know anything, really, about the Reapers. Do they have a culture (even the one of their harvested species)? Do they have desires? Are they conscious while under the Catalyst's control?

Choosing to let them live (Synthesis) is a leap of faith. Yet I don't know if I can condemn them to death. I don't want to. They're sentient beings that have been forced to murder trillions by a stupid flawed AI. But to save the Reapers, I have to alter everyone in the galaxy. Damn it.

which i get , i can see how ppl can see them as victims.

for me though they are machines programmed to harvest all organic and synthetic life, killing trillions each cycle. and each time i talked to one they didn't seem like they hated that fact.

yeah they are being "forced" to do it, but they are a threat and will be a threat as long as they are around so i will destroy them. and i won't force everyone to be changed against their will so the answer is easy for me. but can see it is difficult for u

would say go with control but that is as bad as destroiying them

You are assuming that they wouldn't have wanted you to pick one of the choices available. I'm sure that many would have been very upset knowing that they didn't have to die if you picked one of the choices. You determined that they had to die to the reapers whether they wanted to or not.

Fallacious argument. If I were able to poll people and ask them whether or not they'd like to be synthesized, and every single person said yes, it would cease to be forced, and I would have chosen it. Happily.

I determined that their choice mattered. I'm sorry you can't see that.

I despise society's stigma on suicide. Of course that is very controversial issue, and I hesitate to open up that can of worms.

Sacrifice freedom to stay alive. I'd say those are good intentions.

Yeah, I view the Reapers as I view the Geth. Originally, the Geth were just very complex VI, able to make decisions, but fully based upon their code, and their parameters set within.

Once they were able to self-alter their code, change their beliefs and morals (true sentience), then they become individuals.

If the Reapers are able to do that, then they are individuals. Just like you or I.

And yeah, Control is just as bad, if not worse than Destroy for the Reapers. What if the Reapers are conscious, but unable to act, just watch as Shepard controls them? Sure, paragon Shep, I doubt the Reapers would mind too much, but it's still slavery.

Only ones whose choice you determined mattered are the ones that agree with you. Anyone that would have wanted one of the choices to be chosen you disregard.

Please don't take this as me saying rejection is the wrong choice, because I've stated many times that there are no wrong choices for the individual that made them.

Obviously a personal moral, but Freedom > my life.

I'd rather die than lose my freedom. What Saren was planning is more evil than killing them. That makes Saren more evil than the Reapers in my mind. Well, except for the Husks... and the actual creation process of the Reapers...

Okay, the Catalyst is worse. But Saren is mighty close.

No, I'm taking this as you fundamentally misunderstanding the consequences.

You cannot assume such. You can only go by what has already been chosen, which is the fact that people chose to fight.

An unoffensive discussion about Synthesis? Unpossible.

The anti synthesis crowd are incapable of climbing off their soap boxes. Synthesis is an affront to human nature and was put in the game by Bioware to personally insult each and every one of them, and they must proclaim their hatred for the abomination that is Synthesis at every available opportunity. Please don't rob them of their chance to feel self-righteous about their decision in a video game.

That is not evolution. Look up what evolution is.
This is forced artificial enhancement. It's not what the creators strived for. All they wanted was peace. What they got was an insane AI that perverted it's own directives and betrayed them.

Even if they DID want this, who are THEY to impose anything on the current species.

This is the one and only moral question concerning synthesis. Should it be forced instead of being ... forced. Huh?
