But at that point...is it even humanity anymore?

No, it's not. But I don't support humanity.

I support freedom, a good standard of living, and basic rights.

If we all die, all of those will cease to exist. Yet, we also lose some of those through choosing the alternative.

Which is worse?

We're all succubi that I've designed. I'm perfectly happy with the outcome.

With working bat like wings?

We'll see. But since it's no MY idea, I don't know if I can incorporate it. Smacks of "choice".

Well, since I can do anything I want, I guess I'll keep tinkering. Sex drive is gone, causes too much trouble. Hair is a problem, so alopecia universalis for everyone. And since I think golden tan is kinda boring, I'll give everyone a nice deep red skin tone, like a demon. In fact, let's roll with the demon motif, demons are cool. I'll give everyone horns, fangs, bright yellow eyes and barbed tails. We all look like a twisted version of a succubus. I think it's a neat new look for humanity. Problem?

Well, if there's no sex drive at all, won't we become extinct anyway?

No, people will still have kids if they want them. They'll all be planned pregnancies.

Well, having them looking like a demon is still homogenizing humanity, just like the last strain of this magical Save Humanity virus.

So, just like last time, I'd probably accept this one.

Still better than us all dying, right?

Living isn't shouldnt be put ahead of everything, For example, I would rather die than to live as a slave.

Well, I'm not viewing it from what the individual would like, I'm viewing what I consider to be best for all. It's extinction or change.

One of those ends our story, with no way back.

The other one still holds promise.

Oh, I like humanity. We're a truly bizarre race with so much diversity. So many different cultures, beliefs and opinions in one genome. It's truly amazing.

I wouldn't replace humanity if I had the choice. There are selfish, evil people, sure. But there are also kind, giving people. I won't condemn the good because of the bad.

This is a hypothetical extinction, where the choices have become rather dire.

Yup.

But...honestly after all that changing I'd consider them gone anyway. So yeah...I'd pick the opposite. At least if we stay as ourselves there's always the chance no matter how slim that we can survive as ourselves.

Though I do respect your decision. Just different from mine. :wizard:

So would I. But I would live as a slave for the rest of my life to allow my children to be free.

So would I. The human race WOULD cease to exist.

But there'd be another race, with emotions, feelings, desires.

This is all hypothetical, and given how far-reaching the consequences would be, I don't know how I would REALLY react. I don't want us all to die, yet I want us all to remain free.

I'm at conflcit with myself.

I never mentioned people being ungrateful, I mentioned you not knowing how they will feel about it beforehand, them being ungrateful is another argument I won't have with you because I don't think you seem to understand what your talking about, So I'll leave you to it.

lol who cares what they will feel about it beforehand? shep has all of the galaxy's consent to do whatever is in his power to do...yes the initial plan was to destroy the reapers...but two other options where given too...to kill and replace starchild with shepard (control) or to kill starchild and synthesizing everyone so there will never be any more cycles...I believe paragon shep would have a hard time deciding to be the galaxy's protector...or sacrificing himself so everyone can live in peace without the fear that more loved ones have to die later on....

when you say, you choose an option without their consent then that arguement can be used in anti-control people and anti-destroy and anti-synthesis...if everyone in the galaxy knew the beforehand, all the options...then everyone would have a different say...some saying control them...some saying lets learn from them...some saying destroy them regardless...you are clearly making up a reason so you can keep on actively hate synthesis or control...

^that is quite sad...I feel bad for you

What you want or don't want is irrelevant, I've already done it. You have two options: Like it, or lump it. Woohoo, Succubynthesis baby!

Cool. Maybe some day I'll figure out how to make it so we no longer have to breathe, so we can survive in space and underwater. Since "being human" isn't important at all, I guess I can do anything and everything I see fit. Go me!

Humanity are gonna be extinct either way though.

Using this magical virus, there'd be a new species, with individuals that have passions, feelings and thoughts.

Again, not 100% on my decision, not even close. 50-50 even.

And yeah. I know Shep gets a lot of hate for saying "I... dont know." but that would probably be my reaction. How can one person make a decision of that scale?

Okay, so since the situation is so dire, I add some more modifications into the mix with my Save Humanity Virus. All people develop the exact same distribution of melanin in their skin, we all become a nice golden tan color, and we all develop black hair and brown eyes. No more racism! Oh, and all future offspring will be female, and reproduce via parthenogenesis, and only voluntarily, and only two offspring per lifetime. So, goodbye sexual politics, goobye pregancy from rape, and goodbye overpopulation. No, I didn't ask anyone if they wanted these improvements. Am I still a hero?

Well, if the human race was going to die out within 3-5 years, I guess.

Better than us being wiped out forever, no?

It's not a good scenario by any means, but it's better than the alternative.

The point is to see how far one is willing to go to continue living.

When do you stop being alive? Stop being free?

You say that word like you know what it means. How cute.

My POINT is that I've completely and radically altered humanity, and made it into something else, without anyone's consent.

Synthesis radically alters humanity, and makes it into something else.

Still not seeing the parallel? The fact that it took me several viruses to make my modifications is not really germane to the analogy.

Wow, I’m really impressed as to how a lot of people think. I liked all the endings for the extended cut, they all were good. On a personal opinion, I actually don’t know which ending to chose. I tried to weigh the pros and cons of each. My personal choice was destroy because it’s basically what I set out to do from the beginning of the trilogy. I didn’t give it much thought at the time, but my first play through I chose synthesis because it “seemed” like a happy ending and I was also confused as all hell, that catalyst…. Anyway I thought synthesis was (WAS) a good idea because it takes a new step in evolution and I think at some point in time everything has a final stage of evolution (Or least a prolonged state which evolution ceases). Like in 2001 A Space Odyssey (*Spoiler if you’ve never seen that movie*)

(The god child)

(I’m talking from the biological standpoint) Evolution happens so something can adapt to a new situation (Over time of course). In synthesis your forcing the galaxy to “evolve” to maintain galactic peace. (Which is a nice thought). Whether you agree to this or not is your choice (you really weigh the scales on this one). Since you forcing this evolution it’s a “man made change”. Thus defiling nature. I don’t think it’s a terrible ending, but I feel no matter what some kind of inequality will arise and this synthesized peace will not last forever. I feel synthesis is too good to be true. You get what you want (Peace), but in the end what it really is, is not what it seemed. And the Reapers like the Geth have the will to survive and they’ll do it by any means necessary.

So to put this bluntly, I destroyed the cuttlefish looking robots, avenged the millennium worth of lives they killed, and ended this viscous cycle of galactic genocide!!! But that’s the point of the endings you chose what you wanna chose :D!!! And I felt all three or should I say four endings on the extended cut were all very well done.

Depends on the specifics of synthesis. What if people are able to reject the "additions", simply by not using them, just as we don't use our appendix?

And it seemingly does lead to a "better" life for all.

Does it eradicate free will? That is the important question. I don't believe it does, I believe everyone is still an individual. Yet that still doesn't make changing everyone's DNA right.

What? Just because you choose not to use it doesn't mean you still aren't forced to use it. Besides, the body doesn't "reject" the appendix, it merely ignores the appenix's existence until it explodes--but that's a completely different story.

I don't care if it leads to a utopia where unicorns crap peppermint candy and our flatulence smells like a sweet rose.

It isn't my call to make for everyone.
