 Hello All,

I've been having issues with the character importer in the Witch Hunt DLC. For some reason it is not registering my romance with Morrigan, which really spoils the DLC.

I did a DA:O full playthrough - main game and all DLC. When I finished the original campaign I'm sure my romance with Morrigan was working - the epilogue mentioned it. However, when I reached Witch Hunt it was no longer reading it. I tried doing another import straight from the end of the original campaign (without the DLC saves) and I got the same issue.

It should be mentioned I had used the exploit where you can romance Leliana and Morrigan, but the wiki never mentioned there being any long term character import bugs. (otherwise wouldn't have done it!). Awakenings DLC had logged my romance with Leliana since I got a letter from her though?

Is there anyway I can fix this? Failing that, is there a save game editor? In the worse case scenario, how much does the romance effect Dragon Age II? I plan on playing that soon and wanted to import my character...

My guess is Dragon Age III will be on next-gen consoles so this won't be an issue for further games...

Thanks!

Dual romances, while possible, always seem to be dodgy in a file reading aspect. So from the info you've provided it may be that in Awakening Leliana's romance overrides any other romance. It may also depend on just how deep your romance with Morrigan was in DAO (did you get the ring epilogue?).

Unsure about any editing (or modding in this sense) for the 360 version. I have read of hex editing though never noticed any threads about it.

As for effect DA2. I would suggest hardly any, though you may want to throw that question up at the DA2 boards.

Thank you for your reply.

Is this the ring epilogue? : http://images.wikia....39/Morrigan.png

If so, no I did not get the epilogue. That being said, I'm sure the romance was at high level. I remember it being in the 90s. I had a save where she was propositioning me about the Dark Ritual, in it she called me "love" etc so I'm sure the romance was there.

The wiki states I should be getting both romances at the epilogue, so I'm not sure what I did wrong here. (I'm sure I followed the wiki guide correctly and everything was working fine till the epilogue)

Unfortunately, it appears it's DA:O where the issue is, and I don't have the time to do a complete new playthrough just for this. I am assuming you know of no way to fix this? Are there any Morrigan saves I could download from the internet? (other than this I did a rather normal "good" play through while doing 90% of the side quests so I'd import that)

Also, I know this is a stretch but what is your opinion of DA3? (we all know it'll happen eventually). My hope is that since it'll likely be on next-gen consoles they'll have to create some sort of character creator or question system (like in KOTOR2) that would let me "ret-con" the issue I'm having.

EDIT: Do you know if there is a DA:O save creator for the PC? DA: II is 5$ on the PC, I'd be willing to just buy it again on PC if I could download someones DA:O save and use that as the basis for my import.

Yes, that is the ring epilogue I was referring to. So it would seem that the game does read that as a proper romance as it were. As such the romance is there in some form (at least at the end of Origins).

I personally know of no way to fix the issue on the 360. Consoles are rather limited in this respect to be honest, and any modding for the 360 version of DAO is limited to hex edits (and unfortunately that's where my knowledge of that ends) which is limited in what you can do. I've read somewhere that in Awakening that if you were in a relationship with Morrigan there is supposed to be a slide acknowledging that (a search on the Wiki suggests this is rather limited and it wouldn't surprise me if the Leliana romance did trump the Morrigan one).

I don't know any saves of DAO being posted on the internet. Bear in mind that the saves are also locked to a Gamertag as well which may render them useless.

DA3? Now that's off topic, but I'll share my thoughts anyway. Be prepared for a lot of text (you don't know what you have unleashed).

Have you played the Mass Effect trilogy? There are two things that come to mind with respect to the import save system and retconning. The first is that if you import from ME to ME2 you had to rechoose who was made Earth's representative on the council, mainly because the final save file in ME activated before the final decision was made. An oversight that was kept for the vast majority of DAO especially Awakening and the storyline dlcs; no save was activated after defeating the last boss. Originally it was thought the game would somehow default to reading the save files as defeating the last boss in the individual dlcs; but it turns out the game doesn't assume that and the status remains incomplete (and this is ignoring some other import problems). So while we as gamers defeated the Mother and the Harvester, couldn't save and imported our last save into the next dlc thinking everything would be fine, it wasn't. (Wait, this is leading somewhere.) The new import system used by ME2 (for importing ME2 games for a new game plus) and ME3 means that only saves after a certain point will be importable. A vastly better system. (With any luck the next gen consoles will be backwards compatible and allow save game transfers. I understand that Nintendo are working on getting save game data from the Wii to work on the Wii U; hopefully Microsoft and Sony will do something similar.)

The second thing (finally) is that I had hoped that the character of James Vega in ME3 would be used as an in-game retconning device, similar to how Miranda asks Shepard who was made Councillor at the end of ME (there's the link and the waffle above). I would hope that BioWare could take such a suggestion into consideration considering the number of import flag problems from DAO into DA2. While DA3 would likely be on next gen consoles it would still be PC, and PC gamers can import their saves as normal. Practically, even if such a suggestion should come to fruition, I can only see an imported save having those retconning questions for decisions that were somehow bugged in the previous saves and leave the others intact. (Personally I'd like to see this retcon device be used for most decisions but that's never going to happen as I believe BioWare will go for the pre-built history set-up as in DA2.)

I know there is a DAO save game generator which can be used for DA2. Apparently it works fairly well according to a friend. I haven't used it myself but I am aware that such a thing does exist. Check the Dragon Age Nexus site to see if something like that is there (I'm pretty sure there will be); it's the best site for mods as far as I'm concerned.
