"Sexy, powerful mage seeking strong, intelligent (or at least non-retarded) demon to become one with. Fail demons (sloth, envy, rage) need not apply. If after possessing me you would be inclined to give bwa-ha-ha evil monologues, I don't think we're a match. Please contact me via creepy dream whispering if you're interested."

---

So I was thinking. Let's pretend I'm a mage with a really nasty hatred for templars. Do any mages ever calmly, rationally go into the fade and try to find a demon dating service? If I was going to let myself get possessed, I'd want to be sure it's a pride or desire demon, and I'd want to know they were intelligent enough to keep the possession quiet. Announcing "I'm a ****ing demon!!!" is not a very wise move, after all, but most abominations seem to do that.

If you were a mage who hated templars, getting possessed should not be the first response, as it wouldn't be you in charge and you may end up getting cast aside into oblivion.

A mage with a vendetta and willing to go as far as possession would likely first look into controlling demons, maybe trap demons to give the mage more power.

But that is only for crazy mages who would probably go nuclear and ruin everything for him/herself as well. A crafty, cunning, devious, etc. mage would look into blight magic. Templars know traditional Circle magic and blood magic, blight magic would give the crazy mage an edge.

So, instead of looking for a demon, look for sentient darkspawn or the journals of Fereldan's previous First Enchanter, Remille.

There have been abominations who retain a large part of the initial personality. Anders, for instance, and Ulfred(was that his name? Bald villain from Origins). Wynne also counts.. sort of.

It seems rational that, since some mages do get possessed, the mage would be wise to at least screen the demons for one that isn't going to turn him into a hideous glob.

I dare say some of the not so smart/powerful mages have purposely gone into the fade with the intent of being possessed for power/revenge purposes, but it probably blew up in their faces lol.

But I dare say it's possible. Maybe we will run into a few in DA3?

Wynne doesn't count as she is bound to a spirit that saved her life. Not a demon for its own selfish needs.

Anders was slowly losing himself, and since he fused himself with Justice, he was never his old self again.
Uldred... as he said, he was Uldred, and he was not Uldred. A mage possessed is not the same person, only until the demon is removed like with Connor can a mage be him/herself again with some trauma.

Still, a mage could think about joining with a spirit, but lore-wise, it can be really hard to determine a spirit from a demon, a codex even says how those who are new to wandering the Fade should treat everything, animate or inanimate, as a possible encounter of a spirit (possible demon, but a demon is just a spirit who mortals call demons).

A crazy mage who wants to fight templars would do better with the blight than with demons, at least the Circle has ways to make enchantmented materials to resist the blight.

However, none of this answers the point of the topic, which is mages making pacts with demons. I think a mage would have to be powerful, confident in abilities and in wandering the Fade, and just get lucky in running into one that meets your goals... It's just not... wise? Better to just make demons your servants than partners if demons are desired at all.

Edit: I keep saying crazy mage because I am talking about a mage consorting with demons and blight magic. A sane mage would do better looking for hidden magics with no strings attached and little chance of corruption, like Arcane Warrior and Shapeshifter, magic that is not blood or Circle magic and so the templars the mage has a vendetta against won't be as prepared.

Tarohne said she specifically sought out the demons for a partnership rather than giving in to them as part of some desperate last stand.

And I totally agree that if I were to be possessed I'd want to make sure it was a top-notch demon. Though possession would never be my first choice period, and especially not if the whole point was in defiance of the Templars. Nothing like becoming exactly what they suspect you of being to show them all they were *wrong*, eh?  Posted Image

Well me as a hypothetical intelligent-lunatic mage isn't interested in making the templars feel bad about how wrong they are, the goal is to put templars six feet under.

Well then mission accomplished! It's kind of a suicide mission, but no one could argue with its efficiency.

Rivainian mages/witches converse with spirits/demons and get possessed for the benefit of the village.
So totally possible.
